There is the superposition of Qi Ce (astronomical calculation method for Qi).
Yang years are "Tai Guo" (Excess) years, and Yin years are "Bu Ji" (Deficiency) years. Zi, Yin, Chen, Wu, Shen, Xu belong to Yang years; Chou, Mao, Si, Wei, You, Hai all belong to Yin years. Both Zhu Qi (Host Qi) and Ke Qi (Guest Qi) begin their transition at Da Han (Major Cold). Tian Qi refers to the Guest Qi. After the transition of Guest Qi, there is cumulative addition via Qi Ce, revealing the dates and earthly branches when the Six Qi (Six Stages of Qi) transition.

From the First Year of Lin De era of Great Tang, January 1st, Jiyou day (New Moon), to the Gui Chou year of the fourth year of Mingchang era of Great Jin, a total of five hundred thirty years minus one calculation unit is accumulated. Multiplying five hundred twenty-nine years by the celestial degree of three hundred sixty-five degrees, twenty-four minutes, and thirty-six seconds yields one hundred ninety-three thousand two hundred thirteen days, eighty-six minutes, and forty-four seconds. Subtracting the transition difference of fourteen days, sixty-one minutes, and single nine, there remain one hundred ninety-three thousand one hundred ninety-nine days, twenty-five minutes, and forty-three seconds plus a remainder of single nine. (Eighty minutes or more are rounded up as one day.) Dividing by the Heavenly Cycle of sixty leaves fifty-nine days, twenty-five minutes, and forty-three seconds plus a remainder. This corresponds to Jiyou. Calculating outward yields the Da Han (Major Cold) solar term on Wushen day, which is the date, time, and fraction of the transition. This is the Major Cold mid-climate in the twelfth month of Renyin year, transitioning into Guichou year, where the Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler) Qi presides.
The arriving Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler) Qi advances four positions in the Earthly Branches; Yin-Yang above and below determine disaster and danger. If medical students understand this, they can see the root mechanism of diseases year by year.
For example, in the Guichou year, Taiyin Shitu (Great Yin Damp-Earth) is the Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler) Qi. The previous four positions correspond to Taiyang Hanshui (Great Yang Cold-Water), which governs the Di Zhi (Earthly Position).
Retreating three positions annually indicates the direction of the Guest Qi; it ascends to actually arrive at the specific location. The initial and final Six Qi (Six Stages of Qi) are taken by rotating sequence; the victory or decline of Host and Guest determines who suffers injury.
For example, in the Guichou year, three earthly branches after the Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler) is Hai. Jueyin Fengmu (Jueyin Wind-Wood) serves as the Chu Zhi Qi (Initial Qi), which is the Guest Qi. Zi position Shaoyin Junhuo (Shaoyin Ministerial Fire) is the Er Zhi Qi (Second Qi); Chou position Taiyin Shitu (Great Yin Damp-Earth) is the San Zhi Qi (Third Qi); Yin position Shaoyang Xianghuo (Shaoyang Ministerial Fire) is the Si Zhi Qi (Fourth Qi); Mao position Yangming Zaojin (Yangming Dry-Metal) is the Wu Zhi Qi (Fifth Qi); Chen position Taiyang Hanshui (Great Yang Cold-Water) is the Zhong Zhi Qi (Final Qi).
