(The large intestine is two zhang and one chi in length, four cun in width, located to the right of the navel, with sixteen curves.) The *Ling Shu* states: The Hand-Yangming [Large Intestine] meridian originates at the tip of the index finger (Shangyang LI-1), follows the radial border of the finger (passing through Erjian LI-2 in the depression proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint, and Sanjian LI-3 in the depression distal to it), emerges between the two bones at Hegu LI-4 (Hegu is an acupoint name), ascends into the space between the two tendons (Yangxi LI-5), follows the radial border of the forearm, enters the lateral aspect of the elbow (Quchi LI-11), ascends to the anterior-lateral border of the elbow, passes anterior to the lateral edge of the shoulder bone (referring to the elbow, Wuli LI-13, and Binao LI-14. The gap at the end of the shoulder bone is called the 'Yu' bone; above this are Jianliao SI-14 and Jugu GB-21), ascends out from the meeting point of the vertebral column (the upper back and root of the neck are known as the Tianzhu bone; all six Yang meridians converge at Dazhui GV-14 on the Du vessel, hence termed the 'meeting place'), descends into the Supraclavicular Fossa (Quepen), connects with the Lung, descends through the diaphragm, and belongs to the Large Intestine (from Dazhui moving forward, entering the Quepen of the Foot-Yangming [Stomach] meridian, connecting within the Lung, then descending through the diaphragm, corresponding to the region of Tianshu ST-25 beside the navel. It belongs to the Large Intestine, forming an interior-exterior relationship with the Lung); its branch rises from the Supraclavicular Fossa to the neck, penetrates the cheek, and enters the lower teeth (the connection between head and trunk is the neck; the curved area below the ear is the cheek; acupoints in the neck include Tianding TE-16 and Futu LI-18), returns to emerge flanking the mouth, crosses at the Philtrum (Renzhong), where the left side crosses to the right and the right side crosses to the left, ascending to flank the nostrils (the Philtrum corresponds to Shuiguo GV-26 of the Du vessel; crossing left and right via the Philtrum and ascending to flank the nostrils involves the transition from He Liao SI-19 to Yingxiang LI-20. The Hand-Yangming meridian terminates here, then connects from Shanggen (root of nose) to Chengqi ST-1 to join the Foot-Yangming [Stomach] meridian). Its collateral is named Pianli (TE-6), located three cun above the wrist, diverging to enter the Hand-Taiyin [Lung] meridian; another branch ascends along the arm, traverses the shoulder, ascends to the angle of the jaw affecting the teeth; another branch enters the ear and converges with the Zong Mai (Major Collaterals). In excess conditions, there are toothache and deafness; in deficiency conditions, there are cold teeth and bi-syndrome obstruction. Treatment should target the divergent point (The collateral of the Hand-Yangming meridian is named Pianli, located on the dorsal-radial side three cun above the wrist crease, diverging to the Hand-Taiyin [Lung]. Note: Neither the main channels nor the sinews of this meridian have descriptions of entering the ear or reaching the eyes; only this collateral does. Zong Mai refers to vessels gathered around the eyes and ears. Tooth decay is a pestilence disease; since this meridian ascends to the jaw angle affecting teeth, enters the ear, connects with the Lung, and descends through the diaphragm, excess manifests as dental caries and deafness, while deficiency manifests as cold teeth, internal bi-obstruction, and blockage. To treat these, one should select the divergent Pianli). The main pathway from the hand follows the chest and breast region, diverges at the shoulder, enters the vertebral column, descends to the Large Intestine, belongs to the Lung, ascends along the throat, emerges at the Supraclavicular Fossa, and merges with the Yangming [Stomach] meridian (The Large Intestine and Lung are interior-exterior pairs, and their meridians form a pair. The Zheng [Regular] pathway of the Hand-Yangming meridian follows the anterior chest and breast; its internal course diverges at the shoulder, enters the vertebral column, emerges at the Supraclavicular Fossa, descends to the Large Intestine, and belongs to the Lung. Its superior course ascends along the throat, re-emerges at the Supraclavicular Fossa, and merges with the Yangming primary meridian). Its sinews originate at the tip of the index finger, knot at the wrist, ascend along the arm, knot at the lateral elbow, ascend to the axilla, and knot at Jianliao SI-14 (The tip of the index finger is Shangyang LI-1; passing Hegu LI-4, it knots at Yangxi LI-5 on the wrist, follows the radial forearm, and again knots at Zhouliao LI-11 on the lateral elbow. Then it ascends to meet at Jianjing GB-21, combining with the sinews of the Foot-Taiyang [Bladder] meridian, and knots at Jianliao SI-14; these are all rigid sinews); its branch winds around the scapula, flanking the spine (this branch curves after Jianliao SI-14, winds around the scapula, combines with the sinews of the Hand and Foot Taiyang meridians, and flanks the spine bilaterally); the straight portion ascends from Jianliao SI-14 to the neck (this straight part travels from Jianliao SI-14 through Gugu GB-21, ascending to Tianding TE-16 and Futu LI-18 in the neck); its branch ascends to the cheek, knotting at Quanliao SI-18 (this branch ascends from the neck to the cheek, enters the lower teeth, and ascends to knot at the region of Quanliao SI-18 of the Hand-Taiyang [Small Intestine] meridian); the straight portion ascends anterior to the Hand-Taiyang meridian, reaches the left frontal angle, connects to the head, and descends to the right mandible (this straight part exits anterior to Tianchuang TE-17 and Tianrong SI-17 of the Hand-Taiyang meridian, travels anterior to the ear, ascends to the left frontal angle, connects to the head, and descends to the right mandible. This description uses the left side as an example, implying the right side operates similarly, just as meridians cross left to right and right to left. Thus, the right-side sinews also ascend to the right frontal angle, interconnect at the head, and descend to the left mandible to combine with the sinews of the Taiyang and Shaoyang meridians). When the meridian is disturbed, symptoms include toothache and neck swelling. This meridian primarily governs diseases generated by fluids, such as yellow eyes, dry mouth, rhinorrhea or epistaxis, pharyngitis, pain in the anterior shoulder, and pain or dysfunction of the index finger. If Qi is in excess, there will be heat and swelling along the path of the meridian; if deficient, there will be chills that do not resolve. In excess pulse patterns, the Renying (ST-9) pulse is three times larger than the Cunkou (Radial artery) pulse; in deficiency, the Renying pulse is smaller than the Cunkou pulse.
