The axilla (armpit) refers to the area below the arm and at the upper border of the hypochondrium. It belongs to the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin and also to the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin. The anterior aspect of the axilla belongs to the Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin; the posterior aspect belongs to the Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin; the inferior aspect belongs to the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin; and six cun below this point belongs to the Large Luo Vessel of the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin.
The area anterior to the ear is the convergence of the Sanjiao Meridian of Hand-Shaoyang, Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang, and Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming; the area posterior to the ear is the convergence of the Sanjiao Meridian of Hand-Shaoyang and Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang. The area below the ear at the curved mandible is the convergence of the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang and Large Intestine Meridian of Foot-Yangming; the anterior part of the curved mandible is also the convergence of the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang and Large Intestine Meridian of Foot-Yangming; approximately one cun forward belongs to the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming; and the posterior part of the curved mandible belongs to the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang.
The middle of the nose (referring to the nasal root or bridge) is the convergence of the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming and the Du Mai (Governing Vessel). The nose belongs to the Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin (as stated in *Suwen*: "The West corresponds to white, its qi communicates with the Lung, and it opens into the nose"). It is also the convergence of the Yangming Meridians of Hand and Foot and the Du Mai (as stated in *Suwen*: "In the second day of Cold Damage, the Yangming channel is affected. Yangming governs the flesh, and its vessels flank the nose"). Therefore, if one suffers from a dry nose and inability to lie down, one may select the Yingxiang acupoint (LI18), located five fen on both sides of the nostrils, which is the convergence of the Hand and Foot Yangming meridians.
The mouth is governed by the Spleen, and the vessels of the Stomach and Large Intestine flank it. The classics state: "The center corresponds to yellow, its qi communicates with the Spleen, and it opens into the mouth." It is further stated: "Spleen qi communicates with the mouth; when the Spleen is harmonious, the five flavors are perceived."
Teeth generally belong to the Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin (as stated in *Suwen*: "When men reach forty, their Kidney Qi declines, hair falls out, and teeth become brittle"). Teeth are divided into upper and lower parts (the flesh surrounding the tooth roots is called the gums). The upper gums belong to the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming (as stated in *Suwen*: "When pathogenic factors invade the Foot-Yangming meridian, it causes nasal congestion, epistaxis, and coldness in the upper teeth. As stated in *Zhenjing*: "Pain in the upper teeth, characterized by preference for cold and aversion to heat, should be treated by selecting the Yuan-Source point of the Foot-Yangming meridian, Chongyang (ST42)"). The lower gums belong to the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand-Yangming (Zhang Jiegu stated: *Qinjiao* [Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae] can relieve pain in the lower teeth and dispel wind-dampness from the Shaoyang channel. As stated in *Zhenjing*: "Pain in the lower teeth, characterized by preference for heat and aversion to cold, should be treated by selecting the Yuan-Source point of the Hand-Yangming meridian, Hegu (LI4)").
