When encountering sudden acute conditions, the progression is as rapid and fierce as wind and rain. If there is no time to summon a physician, patients are often left helpless, waiting for death. However, if there is still breath in the mouth and warmth remains at the heart region, immediate treatment according to the prescription is essential to avoid premature death; the merit of such action is immense.
Five Types of Apparent Death (Wu Jue)
Use Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) ground into fine powder, mixed with cold water to form pills the size of small beans. Insert these into the nostrils and blow the dry powder into the ears. If the heart region retains warmth, revival is possible even one day after apparent death. This is the method of Bian Que, though it is rarely known. Since cases of Qi cessation are usually untreatable, this is truly regrettable! Additionally, apply moxibustion three times at the Renzhong acupoint (GV26) and at the location on both big toes approximately one leek-leaf width away from the nail bed.
Method for Self-Mutilation by Throat Cutting
For individuals who have cut their throats, those with severed esophagus but intact trachea can be treated; those with severed trachea but intact esophagus are difficult to treat. If both esophagus and trachea are severed, treatment is even more difficult. The key lies in early detection. Immediately support the patient's head. While Qi has not completely ceased and the forehead is not yet cold, suture the wound using silk thread. According to medical texts, Taohua San (Peach Blossom Powder) can be used. (Formula: Calcined stone 2 sheng, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 4 liang, sliced and stir-fried together until the ash turns peach-red. Remove the Dahuang, sieve the ash finely, and store in a bottle for over a month to dissipate the "fire qi" before use. Therefore, this medicine must be prepared in advance. Apply Xiangjiao Mo (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) powder and Songxiang Mo (Pini Resina) powder when applying.) However, this is hard to obtain instantly, and physicians cannot be summoned in time. Quickly take one or two live chickens, tear off the hot chicken skin (it is useless if cold), wrap it around the sutured wound area, and bind firmly with soft silk and cotton. Further wrap the area five or six times with old cloth used by women for foot-binding to prevent air leakage; the wound will naturally heal. Have the patient lie supine with a high pillow under the occiput, causing the head to tilt forward slightly rather than being straight, preventing the wound from gaping. Avoid drafts in winter and summer, and keep the patient warm with blankets. Once breathing resumes normally through the nose and mouth, administer a porridge made from Bai Mi (Oryzae Semen Glutinosa) 1 he, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 3 slices, to restore Yuan Qi. Subsequently, invite a renowned physician for further regulation and treatment. (From *Yuan Ti Ji*)
Ghost Oppression (Gui Yan - Refers to sleep paralysis or fainting due to fright)
Crush Zaoxintu (Caulis Aronisatis), mix 2 qian with well water, and blow a tiny amount (half the size of a fingernail clipping) into the nostrils. If the patient does not regain consciousness, apply moxibustion to the Renzhong acupoint (GV26) and the acupoints near the toenails of both big toes.
Freezing to Death
For those near death from freezing, heat ashes in a bag and apply them to the heart region as a compress. Replace with hot ashes when they cool. If the heart region is not warmed first and direct fire is applied immediately, the cold and heat will contend, leading to certain death. (Recorded in *Ganying Pian*)
Death from Thirst/Dehydration
Use hot earth from the road and garlic, grind them evenly into a paste, mix with water, strain out the dregs, and drink the liquid. (Ancient formula)
