Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) three liang, Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) two liang (roasted), Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) three liang (sliced), Da Zao (Fructus Jujubae) twelve pieces (torn open), Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) three liang, Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) three liang.
The above six herbs are coarsely crushed, boiled in seven sheng of water to obtain three sheng, the dregs are removed, and one sheng is taken warm orally. When urination becomes smooth, the disease is cured.
Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), and Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) constitute the method for treating interior water syndrome of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel. If muscle-releasing or purgative methods fail to eliminate the pathogenic water and instead cause transformation syndromes, it indicates that this is no longer a simple exterior-releasing syndrome; therefore, Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) should be removed.
Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) three liang (bark removed), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) two liang (roasted), Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) three liang (sliced), Da Zao (Fructus Jujubae) twelve pieces (torn open).
The above four herbs are coarsely crushed, boiled in seven sheng of water to obtain three sheng, the dregs are removed, and one sheng is taken warm orally.
Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) specifically benefits Yin Qi (Vital Energy of Yin). In Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), when Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) is removed, it is because erroneous purgation has led to Yang Qi (Vital Energy of Yang) deficiency, causing turbid Yin pathogens to rebel in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner). Thus, the sour and cold nature of Shao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) is discarded to preserve the life force of Yang.
Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) two liang, Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) two liang (bark removed), Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) two liang (sliced), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) one liang (roasted).
The above four herbs are boiled in four sheng of water to obtain two sheng, the dregs are removed, and the decoction is divided into three warm doses.
Fu Ling Gan Cao Tang (Poria and Licorice Decoction) treats symptoms of sweating without thirst. Its principle lies in promoting Yang Qi (Vital Energy of Yang) to command Yin fluids, possessing the subtle effect of harmonizing Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi. Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) assists Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) in leaching out dampness and soothing the middle jiao, thereby alleviating concerns.
Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) eight liang, Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) four liang (bark removed), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) two liang (roasted), Da Zao (Fructus Jujubae) fifteen pieces (torn open).
The above four herbs are boiled in ten dou of Gan Lan Shui (Agitated Water). First, boil Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) until the liquid reduces by two sheng, then add the remaining herbs, boil to obtain three sheng, remove the dregs, and take one sheng warm orally, three times a day. To prepare Gan Lan Shui (Agitated Water): take two dou of water, place it in a large basin, and agitate it with a ladle until five or six thousand pearl-like bubbles form on the surface chasing each other; this water is then used.
For Ben Tun (Running Piglet) caused by Kidney Qi (Kidney Vital Energy), treatment should employ draining and restraining methods. Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) and Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) promote Yang Qi (Vital Energy of Yang) and drain dampness, protecting Heart Qi (Heart Vital Energy) from water flooding; Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) and Da Zao (Fructus Jujubae) tonify Spleen Earth (Spleen Element) to restrain water pathogens.
