Guzhen Tang (Consolidate Truth Decoction) (formula cited previously).
All the above are primary medicines for treating Manpi Feng (Slow Spasm Syndrome of the Spleen).
Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) is appropriately treated with cooling purgation, while Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) is appropriately treated with warming tonification; this is a fixed rule. However, there are cases where Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) does not resolve with cooling purgation and transforms into Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), and cases where Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) does not resolve with warming tonification and transforms into Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome). In such instances, medicines that treat both acute and chronic spasm syndrome should be used.
Duoming San (Life-Restoring Powder) can strongly control wind-phlegm. Regardless of whether it is Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) or Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), if phlegm-saliva surges and obstructs the throat, producing a sound like tidal waves, known as "Chaoxian" (Tidal Saliva), and no other medicine can pass down the throat, with life hanging in the balance, use this medicine first. Once it enters the throat, the phlegm will descend immediately. Its efficacy is perfect, akin to seizing the creation of heaven and earth.
Qingmengshi (Calamina), one liang, placed in a ganwozi (clay pot), calcined together with one liang of Yanxiao (Saltpeter) over charcoal fire until red-hot. Wait until the saltpeter is completely consumed and the substance turns golden upon cooling. Use this prepared material.
Grind the above herb into a fine powder. For Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) with phlegm-heat obstructing the upper body and high fever, mix fresh Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) natural juice with honey, warm slightly, and administer. After a long while, the medicine will naturally wrap around the phlegm and cause it to descend, expelling it through the large intestine like thick, sticky mucus; this is the effect of the medicine. Subsequently, administer medicines for clearing heat, dispelling wind, and stopping spasms. For Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), when phlegm-saliva surges upward, blocking the throat and preventing the intake of medicine and food, leaving the physician with no options due to urgent circumstances, use this medicine alone. Combine it with Qingzhou Bai Wan (Green White Pills), re-grind into powder, decoct into a thin paste, mix with cooked honey, and administer. The saliva will then descend into the abdomen. Subsequently, administer medicines such as Huashe (Bungarus multicinctus), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix), Quanxie (Scorpio), and Wugong (Scolopendra).
Da Heilong Wan (Great Black Dragon Pill) treats pediatric Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) with miraculous efficacy. (Formula cited under Jijing Feng section.)

Grind the above herbs into powder, bind with Gancao paste (Licorice extract) into pills the size of a chicken head. For Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome), administer with Renshen-Baizhu Tang (Ginseng and Atractylodes Decoction). For Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome), administer with Bohe-Jiang-Mi Tang (Mint-Ginger-Honey Decoction).

Baolong Wan (Embracing Dragon Pill) treats Wind-Cold plague, fever, lethargy, coarse breathing, cough due to wind-heat and phlegm-stagnation, and convulsive spasms. It can also be taken after exposure to gu poison, summerheat, or bathing. It is suitable for frequently administering to robust children. (Danxi stated that Baolong Wan acts on the Heart, Lung, and Liver.)
Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, if ox bile is unavailable, use raw Nanxing chopped and stir-fried until cooked, four liang); Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Silicea, one liang); Xionghuang (Realgar, water-triturated); Chensha (Cinnabaris, ground separately, each half liang); Shexiang (Moschus, ground separately, one qian).
Grind the above into powder, boil Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) paste, and bind into pills the size of soap pods. Dissolve in warm water and administer. For infants under 100 days, divide one pill into three to four doses. For five-year-old children, administer one to two pills. Adults take three to five pills. It also treats leukorrhea in young women. For latent summerheat, chew one or two pills with a little salt and swallow with fresh well water. Using snow water from the twelfth lunar month to boil Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) and mix with the medicine is particularly good. Another method: soak Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) in fermented grain water or fresh water for three days until permeable, boil until soft, boil three to five times, remove while still soft, peel off the skin, slice the white soft part thinly, dry, and stir-fry until yellow. Take eight liang of powder. Use two-and-a-half liang of Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), crushed, soaked in two bowls of water overnight, boiled slowly to one bowl, strained, and gradually poured into the Nanxing powder. Grind slowly until the Gancao water is absorbed, then add the remaining herbs.
Hupo Baolong Wan (Amber Embracing Dragon Pill) (by Dr. Zeng)
The meaning of "Embracing Dragon": "Embrace" means to protect; "Dragon" refers to the Liver. The Liver corresponds to the Azure Dragon of the East, belonging to Wood. Wood generates Fire. What generates me is considered my parent; thus, the Liver is the mother and the Heart is the son. If the mother is peaceful, the son is peaceful. The Heart stores the Shen (Spirit), and the Liver stores the Hun (Ethereal Soul). Once the Shen and Hun are settled, from where would fright arise? Hence, it is called Baolong Wan. It treats various fright syndromes in children, wind-cold invasion in all seasons, epidemic pathogenic heat causing restlessness, phlegm-cough and rapid breathing, and convulsions during the eruption phase of rashes. It is suitable for all these conditions. Its nature is warm and neutral, neither excessive nor drying. Regular use dispels wind and resolves phlegm, calms the heart and clears heat, harmonizes the spleen and stomach, and benefits the spirit.
True Hupo (Electroplaci Lamina), Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Silicea), Tanxiang (Santalum Album Lignum, finely chopped), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, remove rhizome), Bai Fuling (Poria, remove bark, each one-and-a-half liang), Fencao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma, three liang, remove nodes), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, soaked in water, remove pith, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, soaked in water, remove pith, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, each one liang), Zhusha (Cinnabaris, five liang; first attract iron filings with magnet, then grind finely in a mortar with water, collect the floating particles, clarify in a clean vessel, discard supernatant, repeat refining until all Zhusha is processed, dry before use), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, remove black skin, one jin, cut into small blocks, stir-fry slowly until thoroughly hot, cool before use), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, one liang, chopped, brewed in gallbladder of a yellow ox from the twelfth lunar month, aged through one summer), Jinbo (Gold Leaf, 100 sheets, remove protective paper, take one liang of the finished product, grind extremely fine together with the previous herb powders in a mortar, and mix evenly).
Of the above twelve ingredients, except for Zhusha (Cinnabaris) and Jinbo (Gold Leaf) which are not ground in the mill, the remaining ten ingredients: Tanxiang (Santalum Album Lignum) is not overheated; the other nine are either sun-dried or baked. Grind them together into powder and mix evenly. For every one liang of Zhusha (Cinnabaris) and Jinbo (Gold Leaf), take one liang weight of fresh well water, put into a mortar, stir briefly, and form pills the size of a chicken head by hand. Dry in the shade; if sunny, expose slightly. If the sun is too strong, they may crack; place in a ventilated area to dry naturally. Administration methods: dissolve in Scallion Decoction at any time, or in Mint Decoction. For severe phlegm obstruction and cough, administer with Light Ginger Decoction. For measles with convulsions, administer with Warm Clean Decoction. For palpitations and anxiety, administer with Dengxincao (Junci Medullia) Decoction. For summer heat causing stifling and confusion, administer with Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) ripe water. For infants within 100 days, divide one pill into three doses. For children over two years old, administer only one or two pills. During formulation, if even one ingredient is missing or not processed according to regulations, it will certainly be ineffective. Store commonly in a clay jar with Shexiang (Moschus) to prevent aroma loss. Adding one liang of Zhenzhu Mo (Pearl Powder) creates Jin Zhu San (Gold Pearl Powder), because Pearl Powder calms the heart, soothes the liver, and is especially effective in resolving phlegm. Administration methods and vehicles are the same as above.
Another Hupo Baolong Wan (Amber Embracing Dragon Pill) specifically treats pediatric Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) with fever, cough-induced convulsions, phlegm-wheezing, and palpitations. Administer with Ginger-Mint Decoction. For epidemic rash fever with vomiting and startle, administer with plain water. For wind-cold fever, cough, nasal chill, and frightened crying, administer with Scallion Decoction. For fever due to fright, restless sleep, administer with Dengxincao (Junci Medullia) Decoction. For summer fever and vomiting, administer with Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) Decoction. For fever transmitted via breast milk due to maternal fever causing warmth and restlessness, administer with Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) Decoction. For spleen-stomach disharmony, head heat, sallow complexion, emaciation, and poor appetite, administer with Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) Decoction. One-year-old children take one pill; those younger take half a pill. Continuous administration of one to two pills yields invariably effective results. Avoid fishy and raw/cold foods. For breastfed infants, the nursing mother must also observe these dietary restrictions.
Hupo (Electroplaci Lamina, 2.5 qian, wrapped in lean pork and baked, then ground to obtain 2 qian), Niudan Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Oxibile, one liang six qian, best made with ox gall in the twelfth lunar month), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, 2 qian, stir-fried), Xionghuang (Realgar), Chensha (Cinnabaris), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Fuling (Poria, each 3 qian), Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Concretio Silicea, 5 qian), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, whole hooks, one liang five qian), Zhenzhen Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus, five fen), Zhen Shexiang (Moschus, one qian).
None of the above ingredients should be short by even a fraction. Grind into an extremely fine powder. Use eight liang of Fen Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), chopped, decocted in four large bowls of water to yield two bowls of paste. Mix with the herb powder to form pills. Each pill weighs five fen, coated with Jinbo (Gold Leaf), and wrapped externally with Huangla (Yellow Beeswax). One batch yields 200 pills.
Another Hupo Baolong Wan (Amber Embracing Dragon Pill) treats diseases as described above.

This medicine, one batch yields 500 pills, each weighing five fen. It specifically treats various fright syndromes in infants and children, seasonal wind-cold invasions, epidemic pathogenic heat, restlessness, phlegm-cough and rapid breathing, and convulsions during rash eruption. Its nature is warm and neutral, neither cold nor drying. It dispels wind and resolves phlegm, calms the heart and clears heat, settles the hun and stops fright, harmonizes the spleen and strengthens the stomach, and replenishes the spirit. Administer with Scallion White Decoction or Mint Decoction. For severe phlegm obstruction and cough, administer with Ginger Decoction. For rashes with convulsions, administer with plain water. For palpitations and anxiety, administer with Dengxincao (Junci Medullia) Decoction. Do not restrict timing. For infants of a few months old, divide one pill into four doses, or give one-third or half a pill. For children of several years old, administer one pill per dose. Adjust dosage according to the child's size.

The above formulas collectively treat Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome). This is because deficiency and excess often appear together, and acute and chronic conditions transform into each other, necessitating a comprehensive treatment approach. Generally speaking, although Jijing Feng (Acute Spasm Syndrome) and Manjing Feng (Chronic Spasm Syndrome) differ, they both originate from Phlegm. Therefore, substances like Mengshi (Calamina), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) can treat them comprehensively. Specifically, Mengshi (Calamina) subtypes purge phlegm; Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) subtypes purge Liver Wood; Zhusha (Cinnabaris) subtypes purge Fire. These are agents for treating Qi Excess syndromes. Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) subtypes tonify Earth (Spleen); Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) and Quanxie (Scorpio) subtypes tonify Wood (Liver); Wu (Aconiti Radix) and Fu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) subtypes tonify Fire (Kidney). These are agents for treating Qi Deficiency syndromes. Thus, this represents a method of combining tonification and purgation to comprehensively treat both deficiency and excess.
