Labor and injury damage the blood and qi, leading to deficiency and impairment of the Chong (Penetrating) vessel and Ren (Conception) vessel. The Chong and Ren vessels both originate within the Bao Palace (uterus) and serve as the sea of the twelve meridians; the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine meridian and the Hand-Shaoyin Heart meridian are responsible for directing downward flow to form menstruation. Injury to the menstrual blood causes deficiency in the qi of the Chong and Ren vessels; therefore, blood flows down at abnormal times, dripping continuously, resulting in Lou Xia (metrorrhagia/prolonged uterine bleeding). The five Zang organs all receive blood and qi. The color associated with the Liver is green/blue; when Lou Xia presents with a greenish hue, it indicates deficiency and impairment of the Liver, thus the discharge contains a greenish tint.
