Blood Bi (Blood Obstruction) is caused by physical deficiency, allowing pathogenic factors to enter the Yin meridians. Blood belongs to Yin; when pathogenic factors invade the blood vessels causing obstruction of Qi and blood flow, it is termed Blood Bi. Its manifestation is a sensation as if the body were being blown by a gentle breeze. This condition often occurs in individuals with emotional instability (excessive sorrow or joy), who have weak bones but abundant flesh. Due to fatigue and sweating, followed by restless sleep that causes frequent turning, the skin pores (Couli) open, allowing Wind pathogenic factors to invade. Upon pulse diagnosis, the pulse is faint and choppy, with a slight tightness at the Cunkou (radial artery at the wrist crease) and Guan positions, indicating Blood Bi. Treatment should involve acupuncture to guide Yang Qi, harmonizing the pulse and eliminating the tightness for recovery.
Wind Jingxie (Wind-induced Fright Syndrome) is caused by physical deficiency, where Wind pathogenic factors damage the Heart meridian. The Heart corresponds to the Hand-Shaoyin meridian. When Heart Qi is deficient, Wind pathogenic factors take advantage of the deficiency to invade the meridian and lodge in the Heart, resulting in Wind Jingxie. Its manifestations include alternating episodes of fright and joy, mental confusion, and abnormal behavior.
Wind Jingji (Wind-induced Palpitation and Fright) is caused by physical deficiency and insufficient Heart Qi, allowing Wind pathogenic factors to invade the Heart's associated fu organs. Alternatively, fear or distress may deplete Heart Qi, making one susceptible to Wind invasion. When Wind pathogenic factors contend with the Heart, fright and unease arise. If fright persists, palpitations and restlessness ensue. Manifestations include fixed gaze without eye movement and an inability to shout. Pulse diagnosis reveals a moving and weak pulse, indicative of Jingji. A moving pulse indicates Fright, while a weak pulse indicates Palpitation.
Wind Jingkong (Wind-induced Fright and Terror) results from physical deficiency and Wind invasion affecting the Zang-fu organs. The symptom is a feeling as if someone is about to capture them. Deficiency of the Heart leads to Fright, while deficiency of the Liver leads to Terror. The Foot-Jueyin meridian is the Liver meridian, interiorly-exteriorly related to the Gallbladder; the Foot-Shaoyang meridian is the Gallbladder meridian, governing decision-making. When Heart and Liver are deficient and invaded by Wind, and Gallbladder Qi is also weak, the person experiences terror akin to being hunted.
Wind Jing (Wind-induced Fright) is caused by physical deficiency and insufficient Heart Qi, which is then invaded by Wind pathogenic factors. The Heart stores the Shen (Spirit) and governs the blood vessels. Insufficient Heart Qi leads to emptiness, causing chaotic blood flow. Chaotic blood flow causes Qi to congregate with the blood; when Qi and Blood contend and are further invaded by Wind, the result is unstable fright, named Wind Jing. Pulse diagnosis shows a rapid-like pulse. If this causes sudden fright, it will resolve spontaneously after three to four days. The *Yangsheng Fang* states: Essence is stored in the genitalia. Excessive sexual intercourse leads to essence loss. Those who lose essence feel despondent and suffer from constant fright and palpitations.
