Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi) (each 1 liang), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie) (3 qian), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (5 qian), decocted in water and taken orally. After four doses, the body becomes healthy; after ten doses, complete recovery occurs.
A woman experiences diarrhea for three days before her menstrual period begins, followed by menstruation. People attribute this to excessive blood abundance. Little do they know that it is due to Spleen Qi deficiency. The Spleen controls the blood; when the Spleen is deficient, Qi cannot retain the blood. Moreover, the Spleen belongs to damp Earth; when the Spleen is deficient, the Earth element becomes unstable and dampness increases. As the menstrual flow is about to commence, the Spleen Qi fails to secure itself first. When Spleen blood desires to flow into the Sea of Blood, dampness takes advantage of the situation first. Hence, diarrhea precedes menstruation. The method for regulating menstruation lies in first tonifying Qi. When Qi is prosperous, blood naturally becomes secure; likewise, when Qi is prosperous, dampness is naturally expelled. Use Jiangu Decoction: Ginseng Radix (Renshen) (5 qian), Poria (Fuling) (3 qian), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (1 liang), Morinda Officinalis Radix (Baji) (5 qian), Coicis Semen (Yiren) (3 qian), decocted in water and taken orally. Continuous administration for ten doses stops diarrhea during menstruation.
This formula tonifies Spleen Qi to secure Spleen blood, so that blood is retained within Qi. As Spleen blood grows daily, it naturally transforms dampness. Once dampness vanishes, how can it cause diarrhea?
For this syndrome, Shuling Gupi Yin is also excellent.
Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (1 liang), Poria (Fuling), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao), Euryales Semen (Qianshi) (each 5 qian), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) (5 fen), Myristicae Semen (Roudoukou) (1 piece), decocted in water and taken orally. Taking this medicine before the onset of pre-menstrual diarrhea prevents it.
Taking more is beneficial.
A woman experiences bleeding from the large intestine one day before her menstrual period. People consider this a symptom of bloody flooding (Xue Beng). Little do they know that the menstrual blood has entered the large intestine. The pathways of the large intestine and menstruation are distinct; why does the blood enter the former? The tie of the uterus connects upwards to the Heart and downwards to the Kidney. If the Heart and Kidney do not interact, the blood of the uterus has nowhere to return. Since the Qi of the Heart and Kidney meridians does not shine upon and retain it, allowing it to go its own way, the blood flows not through the urine but through the stool. Treatment methods that merely stop the rectal bleeding will result in increased bleeding with each attempt, disturbing the Qi of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner), causing chaos that cannot be stopped. The erratic flow of menstrual blood originates from the non-interaction of the Heart and Kidney. If one does not facilitate the mutual interaction of the Heart and Kidney, but only attempts to calm the uterus, the Qi of the uterus will have no source, and when will the blood return to its proper channels? Therefore, one must greatly tonify the Heart and Kidney, connecting their Qi, so that the Qi of the uterus does not scatter, and the blood in the large intestine will naturally cease its erratic flow. Use Guijing Liang'an Decoction: Ginseng Radix (Renshen) (3 qian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (5 qian), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao) (5 qian), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudi) (5 qian), Corni Fructus (Shanzhuyu) (2 qian), Morinda Officinalis Radix (Bajitian) (1 qian), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (5 qian), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong) (5 qian), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie) (stir-baked black, 3 qian), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) (4 fen), decocted in water and taken orally. One dose stops the bleeding; three doses stop the menstruation, and conception becomes possible.
This formula greatly tonifies the Heart, Liver, and Kidney meridians. It does not directly attend to the uterus, yet the uterus finds its归属 because the Qi of the Heart and Kidney merges. When the Heart and Kidney are deficient, their Qi separates; when sufficient, their Qi merges. With the Heart and Kidney inseparable, the Qi of the uterus obeys the tranquil retention of these two meridians, leaving no room for chaotic movement. Then, why is it said that tonifying the Heart and Kidney suffices, while also supplementing the Liver Wood? The Liver is the son of the Kidney and the mother of the Heart. By tonifying Liver blood, Liver Qi travels between the Heart and Kidney, naturally drawing the Heart down into the Kidney and the Kidney up into the Heart, akin to the joy of an introducer facilitating a meeting.
For this syndrome, Jiawei Guixiong San is also miraculous.
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdi) (each 1 liang), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) (5 qian), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) (1 qian). One dose stops bleeding and allows normal menstruation; two doses bring complete recovery.
