Like a longan seed, with a thread-like root, approximately five cun in length. The fleshy ball protrudes outward, and only then can one eat or drink. Gentle manipulation with the hand causes pain that pierces to the heart. This fleshy growth is
Suddenly, needle-hole-like perforations appear on the tongue with unceasing bleeding; this belongs to excessive fire in the Heart Meridian. (Jinghua notes: This condition is similar to lingual epistaxis [bleeding from the tongue]; treatment should tonify the Heart and clear fire.)
[E notes: For this condition, apply Pulian San externally and internally administer Zhi Zi [Gardenia], Lian Qiao [Forsythia], Huang Qin [Scutellaria], etc., which can lead to recovery. (It seems a character for "blood" is missing after the character "chu" [protrude/come out].)]
Fleshy growths arise within the throat, overlapping layer by layer, gradually swelling with holes forming, emitting foul odor; this is caused by the Lung receiving heat-toxin.
In the initial stage, there is incessant toothache, followed by swelling of the gingiva, which turns purple-black or bleeds. Over time, it rots and emits a foul odor.
This is identical to the previously mentioned symptoms. If prolonged and untreatable, white pus exudes from the interdental spaces, making it extremely difficult to manage. In severe cases, teeth may fall out. If an upper left incisor falls out, it is generally considered incurable. Both of the above conditions belong to deficiency-heat in the Stomach and Kidney.
Attributed to Stomach fire, appearing bean-sized, either internally or externally, with no fixed location.
Bleeding from the interdental spaces relates to the Spleen above and the Stomach below, caused by excess fire attacking upward. There are also cases where Stomach deficiency leads to vacuity-fire stirring, rotting the gingival roots, resulting in continuous leakage.
Initially, a small lump arises on the gingiva, either superiorly or inferiorly, internally or externally, presenting as elevated and hard; this indicates Stomach-Spleen fire. [E notes: Patients with this condition are numerous; most suffer from internal heat accumulation constrained by external wind-pathogens. This inevitably affects the Jiache acupoint region, causing difficulty in jaw opening and closing. It is appropriate to use Da Dou Juan [Sojae Semen Praeparatum], Sang Ye [Mori Folium], Jing Jie [Schizonepetae Herba], Fang Feng [Saposhnikoviae Radix], Zao Jiao Ci [Gleditsiae Spina], Jiang Can [Bombyx Batryticatus], Xiang Bei [Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus], Lian Qiao [Forsythiae Fructus], Bo He [Menthae Haplocalycis Herba], Gan Cao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma], Jie Geng [Platycodonis Radix], Chuan Xiong [Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma], Chan Yi [Bombyx Cylobalitiidis Periostracum], Gou Teng [Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis], and Ji Li [Tribuli Fructus]. One or two doses will suffice for recovery. I have treated this condition repeatedly with consistent success. Ignorant practitioners using plaster often cause severe complications due to trapping the pathogen, a common occurrence.]
Arising at the gingival root, purple-black in color, elevated like a mushroom. This results from extreme fire and blood-heat, combined with qi stagnation, or from a preference for drinking distilled spirits. Alcohol-dampness injures the Spleen; dampness stagnates and transforms into fire, leading to this condition. [E notes: This condition should be treated with bitter-pungent-warm methods to regulate qi, resolve phlegm, and detoxify, such as Yin Hua [Lonicerae Japonicae Flos], Gan Cao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma], Lv...]
