The Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian has eleven acupoints: Zhongfu (Zhōngfǔ), Yunmen (Yúnmén), Tianfu (Tiānfǔ), Xiabai (Xiábái), Chize (Chǐzé), Kongzui (Kǒngzuì), Lieque (Lièquē), Jingqu (Jīngqū), Taiyuan (Tàiyuán), Yuji (Yújì), and Shaoshang (Shàoshāng) (totaling twenty-two points on both sides).
This meridian originates at Zhongfu and terminates at Shaoshang. Selecting Shaoshang, Yuji, Taiyuan, Jingqu, and Chize corresponds to the Jing-Well, Ying-Spring, Shu-Stream, Jing-River, and He-Sea Five-Shu points.
The pulse originates in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), descends to connect with the Large Intestine, returns along the upper opening of the Stomach, passes through the Diaphragm, and belongs to the Lung. From the Lung system (trachea, larynx, etc.), it emerges horizontally from under the axilla, runs along the medial aspect of the upper arm anterior to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, descends into the elbow center, follows the medial forearm along the lower border of the radius, enters the Cun Kou (radial artery pulse position), ascends to the Thenar eminence. Following the margin of the thenar eminence, it exits at the tip of the thumb. Its branch diverges from the Lieque acupoint behind the wrist, goes straight to the medial side of the index finger's tip, and connects with the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. This meridian is rich in Qi and deficient in Blood; its Qi flows into this meridian during the Yin hour (3–5 AM).
The Lung is the organ of Xin Metal. The pulse is located at the Right Cun position. In excess conditions, the pulse is forceful, accompanied by upper heat, coarse breathing, and nasal congestion; treatment requires pungent-cooling methods to drain. In deficiency conditions, the pulse is weak, with shortness of breath, insufficient respiration, and low voice; treatment requires sour-warm methods to tonify. Tangerine peel and Licorice are divine formulas for descending phlegm and regulating Qi; Ginger is a sacred medicine for removing Qi-type coughs. Cough and asthma caused by emotional stagnation can be treated with Agarwood, Litsea, Ginseng, and Areca nut; chest oppression, urgent asthma, and pain radiating through the chest can be treated with Pinellia, Trichosanthes fruit, and Platycodon. For nasal obstruction, pills made of Schizonepeta seed, Cubeb, and Mint are used; for chronic rhinitis (Bi Yuan), powder containing Borneol, Xanthium, and Angelica dahurica is applied. Hundred flowers can remove red phlegm; Anemarrhena and Fritillaria tend to clear heat-type coughs. Coptis, Red Poria, and Donkey-hide gelatin suppress Heart Fire and clear the Lungs; Chebula, Apricot Kernel, and Akebia promote long-term cough recovery and restore vocal tone. Pain from flowing abscesses due to phlegm-fluid retention requires Pinellia dosage doubled compared to Mirabilite; urticaria itching and pain due to wind-heat require Sophora root dosage less than that of Sapindus. For asthma and cough, Loropetalum, Cicada slough, Apricot kernel (remove tips), and a small amount of Arsenic trioxide are used; for heat obstructing the throat, Hedyotis diffusa, Schizonepeta, Platycodon, and Saposhnikovia are used; Ginseng, Bovis Calculus, and Licorice eliminate alcohol jaundice; Calomel and Sulfur remove nasal polyps. Alum, Kansui, and realgar have heavy and toxic natures; added to Fermented Soybean, they treat asthma; Marsilia powder, though light in nature, combined with Sea Salt reduces tongue swelling. Sweet Descurainia seed effectively treats Lung Abscess; bitter Bear Gallbladder, being cold, when applied externally treats hemorrhoids. Qiongyu Paste regulates cough and consolidates the Primordial Qi; Liujin Clear Phlegm and Descend Fire Pill clears phlegm and drains fire. Ginseng requires a large dose to tonify; a small dose causes stagnation, while a large dose promotes circulation; Scutellaria requires a dry and thin texture to drain fire; fine texture cools the intestines, dry texture clears Metal. Cimicifuga and Angelica dahurica were called by Li Dongyuan as guiding herbs for reporting signals; Scallion white and Ephedra are commonly used by Zhang Zhongjing as guiding herbs. Aster and Schisandra can tonify and astringe; White Mulberry Bark and Saposhnikovia can solidify the exterior and open blockages. Cold, heat, warm, and cool properties must be carefully distinguished in famous formulas; severity and urgency must be clearly understood via palpation. If one grasps the secret essence within, even herbal medicines hold thousand-gold value; if missed, all herbs become empty.
*Daoyin Benjing* states: The Lung is the canopy of the five Zang organs, the source of voice, and relies on it for skin lubrication. When humans suffer internal injury from the Seven Emotions or external contraction of the Six Evils, leading to irregular breathing, the Lung Metal becomes impure. However, to clear Metal, one must first regulate the breath. When the breath is regulated, movement-related ailments do not arise, and the Heart remains tranquil, which is the True Breath. Since breath arises from the Heart, when the Heart is quiet, Qi is regulated, and every breath returns to the root, this is the Mother of Golden Elixir. *Xinyin Jing* says: "Mixing winds, a hundred days to achieve spiritual connection." *Neijing* says: "The three months of autumn are called 'Rongping' (Capacity and Peace). The heavenly Qi is rapid, and the earthly Qi is clear. One should sleep early and rise early, waking with chickens, keeping the will peaceful to mitigate the autumn penalty, gathering Shen Qi to harmonize autumn Qi. Do not let the will scatter outward, so that Lung Qi remains pure. Violating this injures the Lung. If excessive fruits and melons are consumed, mild purgation should be induced once, followed by two days of rest. Eat Allium macrostemon porridge with sheep kidney on an empty stomach to tonify; if sheep kidney is unavailable, pig kidney may substitute, which is superior to taking tonic preparations. In autumn, feet should be kept warm and head cool, as the clear and肃 (solemn) Qi corresponds to the body's converging Qi. Since Summer Solstice, Yin Qi gradually strengthens; one should use thinner bedding to cultivate the foundation of longevity. If summer heat injures the body in summer, manifesting as malaria in autumn, Yang rises and Yin sinks, clashing causing chills; Yang sinks and Yin rises, clashing causing fever. Clashing of chills and heat indicates Lung pathology. If the pulses of Shaoyang and Jueyin are slightly wiry, it indicates consumption of cold/raw food in summer, accumulation in the middle, transforming into dysentery in autumn. If Foot-Yangming and Foot-Taiyin pulses are slightly wiry, soggy, and tight, these are contrary-time pulses, indicating critical illness. Autumn pulses should be light like hair bristles; treatment methods are detailed later and previously. *Suwen* says: "Autumn injury by dampness leads to winter cough," pure Yang returns to emptiness. *Mifa* says: "While walking, standing, sitting, or lying, keep the mouth closed; regulate breathing and fix the voice; frequently swallow sweet saliva and jade fluid, all to moisten the Lung, cause evil fire to descend, and thus clear Lung Metal."
