The Du Mai (Governor Vessel) originates at Xiajiashu (lower extreme), runs along the interior of the spine to Fengfu (DU16), passes through the brain, forehead, and nose, and enters Yinjiao (DU28). It serves as the sea of Yang meridians and the general outline. The Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) originates at the bottom of Zhongji (CV3). Its channel runs parallel with the Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin. It intersects with the Du Mai at Yinhuai. These three vessels originate from the same source but travel different paths. The Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Heel Vessel) originates from the inside of the heel, follows the lateral malleolus upward into Fengchi (GB20). The Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Heel Vessel) originates from the medial malleolus, follows the throat upwards; it is a branch diverging from the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin and Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. Zhuyinjiao (SP9) is the starting point of the Yin Wei Mai (Yin Linking Vessel); Zhubin (KI9) belongs to the Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin. Zhuyanghui (BL59) is the starting point of the Yang Wei Mai (Yang Linking Vessel); Jinmen (BL63) belongs to the Bladder Meridian of Foot-Taiyang. The Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel) circles around the hypochondriac region and meets the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang at Weidao (GB26). These are the so-called Eight Extraordinary Vessels, which maintain the twelve regular meridians, ensuring smooth and normal circulation.
Diseases reside within Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi; rescue relies primarily on acupuncture. One must observe the deficiency or excess of the condition and the patient's leanness or robustness, distinguishing the depth of needling according to the four seasons. The method of selecting acupoints involves merely differentiating Yin and Yang and applying Ying-Sui (Retreating-Approaching) techniques. Carefully study the purport of each section, re-examine the meridians to inspect their words, making clear the efficacy of every character. Doubts and obscurities become known; excess and deficiency are always annotated. There is divine efficacy in shifting pain and stopping soreness, achieving peace under the needle. For sudden acute diseases or deep-seated critical conditions, do not err in puncturing. Detail the principle that on Yin days, blood is guided, and when Yang Qi remains, warm needle moxibustion is used; on Yang days, Qi is guided, and when Yin Blood is present, warmth is applied to secure against cold dampness. Deeply seek the numbers: Twelve Regular Meridians as the count, Fifteen Luo (Connecting) Vessels for one cycle. Sixty Yin Shu (Transport) points are governed by the Five Zang Organs; Seventy-Two Yang points are collected by the Six Fu Organs. When puncturing Yang meridians, the needle may be laid horizontally to take the point. When draining blood collaterals, first soften them with finger pressure. Going against the flow is "Ying" (Retreating), following the flow is "Sui" (Approaching). Exhaling is reducing (Xie), inhaling is tonifying (Bu). Superficial and new ailments are indications for needle use; lingering and prolonged illnesses are reasons for moxibustion. Restlessness and irritability that medicines cannot save require selecting the Eight Hui (Meeting) Points. Carbuncles and swelltures where evil accumulates in the Extraordinary Vessels are cured by Bian stone (lithotomy/bleeding). Regarding Jia Gallbladder/Yi Liver, Ding Fire/Ren Water: what generates me is called Mother; what I generate is called Child. Spring Jing (Well) and Summer Ying (Spring) points are only punctured when evil is present; Autumn Jing (Stream) and Winter He (Sea) points are suitable for puncture. Violating taboos causes disease recurrence; declining vital energy makes it hard to resolve. Sun Luo (Sun Collaterals) are located in the muscle layers; blood flows out from branch vessels. Dizziness and fainting require manipulating the needle; deficiency of Jing (Meridian) Qi necessitates tonifying the Luo (Collateral) vessels. Pain indicates excess, itching indicates deficiency; reducing the Child or following the Mother are key pointers. Considering that ancient sages' rapid and effective treatments could not surpass acupuncture; how can curing diseases today be harder than medicine? Xu Wenbo induced abortion via acupuncture in Yuannei, which was very fast. Fan Jiusi treated throat diseases in Jiangxia, rarely heard of. Generally, ancient and modern relics are all emulated by later generations. Wang Cuan cured possession by acupuncture, causing demons to vanish; Qiu Fu cured ghost afflictions, saving souls from sorrow. Having grasped the subtleties of finger techniques and the true secrets of acupuncture, acupoints are detailed in bone, tendon, muscle, and flesh layers; puncture essentials examine the chronicity and nature of Zang-Fu organ cold and heat. Connecting Qi and unblocking meridians, lengths follow methods; internal and external extremes, fullness and emptiness must be distinguished. Do not puncture after severe exertion, lest Qi become chaotic and spirit collapse. Be cautious with breathing to prevent needle syncope and blood closure. Often seek ancient meanings, thereby hiding mysteries. Meeting high sages' true interests leads to transcendent enlightenment; encountering experts' teachings highlights supporting crises. Male and female Qi and pulses, flowing and combining at specific times, note the time of nourishing children for acupoint injection; acupoints must follow current standards. Carefully determine appropriate treatments for diseases, the style of divine needles, widely search secret texts of Nan Jing (Classic of Difficult Issues) and Su Wen (Basic Questions), deeply examine subtle insights from various families' elbow manuals. Thus it is called the Zhiwei Fu (Ode to Subtle Indications) of Lujiang Liuzhu (Flowing and Transfusing), serving as a model for later learners.
Above is the Zhiwei Fu of Liuzhu, compiled by Dou Guifang. Now it is excerpted here from the Ziwu Liuzhu Zhen Jing (Needle Classic of Zi-Wu Flowing and Transfusing).
