Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian
The Hand-Shaoyang meridian originates at the tip of the ring finger. It ascends between the ring and little fingers, follows the dorsal aspect of the wrist, emerges between the radius and ulna of the forearm, and ascends through the elbow.
The end of the arm bones is the wrist joint. The end of the wrist joint is the elbow joint. The Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian begins at the Guanchong (TE1) point at the tip of the ring finger. It ascends between the two fingers, passes through the Yemen (TE2) and Zhongzhu (TE3) points, and reaches the Tianjing (TE10) point.
It ascends along the lateral aspect of the upper arm to the shoulder, crosses posterior to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, enters the Keyuan (supraclavicular fossa), intersects at the Danzhong (CV17) point, spreads and connects with the Pericardium. It then descends through the diaphragm, successively belonging to the Upper Jiao, Middle Jiao, and Lower Jiao.
The area between the shoulder and elbow is called Nao. From the Tianjing (TE10) point, it ascends along the lateral aspect of the upper arm, passing through the Qinglengyuan (TE11) and Xiaoluo (TE12) points. It runs interior to the Taiyang meridian and exterior to the Yangming meridian, intersecting at the Danzhong (CV17) point. It spreads and loops around the Pericardium, then descends through the diaphragm. At the upper opening of the stomach, it belongs to the Upper Jiao; at the Zhongwan (CV12) point, it belongs to the Middle Jiao; at the Yinjiao (CV7) point, it belongs to the Lower Jiao.
Its branch arises from the Danzhong (CV17) point, ascends out of the Keyuan, goes up to the neck, and ties behind the ear. It goes straight up to emerge above the upper angle of the ear, then curves down to the cheek, reaching the zygomatic region.
The area behind the Naohu (DU16) point is the nape. The area below the eye is the zygomatic bone. Another branch arises from the Danzhong (CV17) point, ascends out of the Keyuan, passes over the Dazhui (GV14) point on its way to the neck, follows the Tianyou (TE15) point, ascends behind the ear, and meets the cheek region near the zygomatic bone.
Yet another branch enters the ear from behind the ear at the Yifeng (TE17) point, passes through the Tinggong (SI19) point, traverses the Ermen (TE21) and Heliao (TE22) points, emerges to the lateral canthus, meets the Tongziliao (GB1) point, follows the Sizhukong (TE23) point, and intersects with the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian.
