The *Zisheng Jing* (Classic of Nourishing Life) records: For chronic consumption disease (Lao Bing), the symptoms include heat in the palms and soles, frequent night sweats, mental fatigue, pain in bone joints with aversion to cold, initial coughing, and gradually expectorating pus and blood. Cut a stalk of grass at the level of the skin texture. Use this grass to measure from the tip of the nose, starting from the center of the head parting the hair and lying flat against the skin, down to the spine. Mark the end of the grass with ink. Take another stalk of grass, have the patient close their mouth naturally, and use it to measure the width of the mouth, cutting it to size. Then, fold this grass in half at the previous ink mark and use the ends to measure the acupoint. During moxibustion, add one moxa cone per year of age; for example, if thirty years old, apply thirty-one cones. This has proven effective repeatedly. Based on this measurement, the point corresponds to three cun lateral to the fifth thoracic vertebra, which are the Xinshu (Heart Shu, BL15) points. Is it because the Heart governs blood that moxibustion is applied here?
The commentary in *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: To locate Shenshu (Kidney Shu, BL23), have the person stand upright on a flat surface. Measure with a stick approximately to the level of the umbilicus. Then, use this same stick to measure along the dorsal spinal column to identify the level corresponding to the umbilicus. From there, measure one and a half cun laterally on each side to locate the point, which is Shenshu.
According to this method, using the umbilicus as a reference for Shenshu seems reasonable. However, in obese individuals, the abdomen hangs, lowering the umbilicus; in thin individuals, the abdomen is flat, keeping the umbilicus level. Now, regardless of body type, measuring with a stick lacks precision.
(Some say this was transmitted by hermits of Mount Shaoshi. Liu stated: The Eight Confluent Points are used for auxiliary treatment and should not be rigidly adhered to as fixed methods.)

For the above syndromes, Zhaohai treats all. First needle Zhaohai, then Lieque.
The above methods state: First needle the points for the main syndrome, selecting locations based on the left/right and upper/lower distribution of the disease. Still, follow the meridian pathways, palpate, guide, and remove according to method. If the disease persists, seek the He-Sea points; if still unresolved, continue seeking. One must pause needling to await the arrival of Qi, ensuring connection between upper and lower, until the patient feels relief from their suffering, before withdrawing the needle.
Regarding these eight points, the therapeutic methods are extensive, akin to what Scholar Xu described as "spreading nets over a wide wilderness, hoping to catch one escapee."
