Whenever moxibustion is applied to treat illness, even if the number of moxa cones (Zhuang) is sufficient, if a blister does not form and suppurate, the disease will not be cured. If the moxa sore does not develop, take an old shoe sole, heat it over fire, and apply it as a hot compress to the affected area; after three days, it will develop into a blister with pus, and the disease will heal naturally (from *Ju Fang*). ○ Alternatively, take three to five stalks of red-skin green onion, remove the green leaves, roast them in ash fire until cooked, crush them, and use the heat to compress the moxa sore more than ten times; after three days, it will naturally suppurate and the disease will heal (from *Ju Fang*). ○ Whenever moxibustion results in the formation of a moxa sore, the afflicted disease will recover; if no sore forms, the disease will not resolve. If several days have passed since moxibustion and no sore has developed, apply two or three additional moxa cones directly on the spot to induce development (from *Zi Sheng*).
After stopping the fire during moxibustion treatment, immediately wash the moxa sore with warm decoction of red-skin green onion and mint (*Bohe*, Mint Herb). This expels pathogenic wind from the sore opening and ensures the meridians remain unobstructed below the lesion. After the scab falls off, wash the sore with warm decoction made from equal parts peach branches from the southeast and fresh tender willow branches; this protects the sore from wind pathogens. If the tissue inside the sore is black, rotting, and ulcerated, add coriander (*Husui*, Coriander Fruit/Herb) to the decoction for washing, which promotes healthy granulation. If pain is unbearable, add Coptis Rhizome (*Huanglian*, Coptis Rhizome) to the decoction for immediate relief (from *Ju Fang*). ○ For dressing moxa sores: use willow catkins in spring, bamboo membrane in summer, new cotton in autumn, and white fine wool from rabbit bellies in winter; wool from cat bellies is even better (from *Zi Sheng*). ○ For non-healing moxa sores, apply heated ash from cow dung. ○ It is also said to apply mashed Mugwort Flower (*Maoxiang Hua*, Mugwort Flower). ○ Apply mashed Mulberry Leaf (*Qiuye*, Mulberry Leaf) or mulberry root bark powder (from *Ben Cao*). ○ For chronic non-healing moxa sores, prepare a plaster by decocting Coptis Rhizome (*Huanglian*, Coptis Rhizome), licorice nodes (*Gancao Jie*, Licorice Node), Angelica Dahurica (*Baizhi*, Angelica Root), Minium (*Huandan*, Lead Oxide), and sesame oil; apply externally (from *Dan Xin*). ○ For swollen and painful moxa sores, slice Scallion Bulb (*Xiebai*, Allium Macrostemon Bulb), soak it in lard and vinegar overnight, simmer gently over low heat, strain, and apply. ○ Pour hot decoction of Dragon's House Earth (*Fulonggan*, Hematite) over the area (from *Ben Cao*). ○ For uncontrollable bleeding from moxa sores, apply ash from burnt blue-green cloth. ○ Apply mashed Eclipta Herba (*Lichangcao*, Eclipta Herb). ○ Dry sprinkle powder made from Soot (*Baicaoshuang*, Herbal Soot) and Concha Tridacnae (*Bangfen*, Giant Clam Shell) (from *Ben Cao*). ○ For chronic non-healing moxa sores, use Neituo Huangqi Wan (Internal Support Astragalus Pill) and Zhitong Shengji San (Pain-Relieving Flesh-Generating Powder) (from *Zhu Fang*).
Neituo Huangqi Wan (Internal Support Astragalus Pill)
