The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian originates at the radial tip of the index finger (Shangyang LI-1), follows the radial border of the finger, passes through Erjian LI-2 (anterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint) and Sanjian LI-3 (posterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint), emerges between the two bones at Hegu LI-4, ascends into the space between the two tendons at Yangxi LI-5, follows the radial border of the forearm through Pianli LI-6, enters the lateral aspect of the elbow at Quchi LI-11, continues up the anterior lateral border of the upper arm to the shoulder, emerges anterior to the acromion process at Jianyu LI-15, ascends above the intersection of the cervical vertebrae (Dazhui GV-14) at Tianding LI-17, descends into the supraclavicular fossa, connects with the Lung, pierces the diaphragm, and belongs to the Large Intestine. A branch arises from the supraclavicular fossa, ascends to the neck, penetrates the cheek, enters the lower gum, re-emerges crossing the lips at the Renzhong point (DU-26), where the left meridian crosses to the right and the right to the left, ascending to flank both sides of the nostrils at Yingxiang LI-20, where it connects with the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian.
When this meridian is affected, symptoms include toothache and facial swelling. This meridian primarily governs diseases related to Jin Ye (Body Fluids), such as yellowing of the eyes, dry mouth, nasal congestion or epistaxis, throat obstruction, pain in the anterior shoulder, and pain or dysfunction of the index and thumb. If Qi is in excess, there will be heat and swelling along the course of the meridian; if Qi is deficient, there will be chills that are difficult to recover from. In excess patterns, the Renying pulse (Carotid artery) beats three times stronger than the Cunkou pulse (Radial artery); in deficiency patterns, the Renying pulse beats weaker than the Cunkou pulse. (From *Ling Shu*) ○ The Qi flows from Shaoshang LU-1 to Yingxiang LI-20 during the Mao hour (5:00–7:00 AM). (From *Ru Men*)

Wuli LI-13: Two points. Located 3 cun proximal to the elbow, in the center of the deep vessel running inward. Moxibustion 10 Zhu, needling is contraindicated. (From *Tong Ren*) ○ The *Nei Jing* lists it among the 25 Great Prohibitions, located 5 cun below Tianfu LU-3. Note: Wuli LI-13 is the point referred to. "Great Prohibition" means strictly forbidden to needle. ○ Striking Wuli LI-13 should stop midway; only five times. Five repetitions exhaust the Qi of the Zang organs. Thus, twenty-five punctures exhaust the Shu points, which is called depriving the Heavenly Qi. Therefore, it is said: "He who is pierced outside the gate dies in the house; he who is pierced inside the gate dies in the hall." This has been passed down as a prohibition against needling. (From *Ling Shu*)
Binao LI-14: Two points. Located 7 cun proximal to the elbow, level with the end of the biceps muscle, taking the point with the arm extended horizontally. It is the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Yangming. Needle depth 3 fen, moxibustion 3 Zhu. (From *Tong Ren*) ○ Located one Cun below Jianyu LI-15, in the depression between two tendons and two bones, taking the point with the arm extended horizontally.
