The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian originates at the sides of the nose, intersecting with the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. It descends along the lateral aspect of the nose (passing through Yingxiang LI20), enters the upper gum, then emerges, flanking the mouth and encircling the lips. At the lower part, it intersects with the Ren Mai at Chengjiang CV24. From there, it follows the posterior aspect of the mandible, exits at Daying ST5, ascends along Jiache ST6 to the anterior aspect of the ear, passes through Guanchong GB41 (Ke Zhuren), follows the hairline to the frontal skull.
A branch descends from the anterior aspect of Daying ST5 to Renying ST9, follows the throat, enters the Supraclavicular Fossa (Quepen), descends through the diaphragm, belongs to the Stomach, and connects with the Spleen.
The main trunk descends from the Supraclavicular Fossa, runs along the medial aspect of the breast, descends alongside the umbilicus, and enters the region of Qichong ST30. Another branch originates from the lower orifice of the Stomach, travels internally, descends to Qichong ST30 where it joins the main trunk, then proceeds downward through Biguan ST31, reaches Futu ST32, and descends into the knee patella region (the junction of the upper tibia and lower femur is called the knee patella, referring to the kneecap). It then descends along the anterolateral aspect of the leg (where Shanglian and Xiajie points are located), moves down to the dorsum of the foot (the dorsal surface is called Fu, where Chongyang ST42 is located), and enters the medial space between the middle toes (Xangu ST43).
A branch diverges three cun below the knee, descending to enter the lateral space between the middle toes (Neiting ST44). Another branch diverges from the dorsum of the foot, entering the space between the great toe and emerging at its tip (Lidui ST45), thereby transferring to the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
When this meridian is affected by pathological changes, symptoms include feeling chilly and shivering, a desire to stretch, frequent yawning, and a dark complexion (forehead). In severe cases, the patient may fear people and fire, startle at the sound of wood being struck, feel their heart palpitate, and wish to stay alone behind closed doors and windows. They may even want to climb high places to sing, discard clothes, and run around. There may be rushing noises in the abdomen and distension; this is referred to as "Jue" (here referring to a specific condition related to the shin or meridian reversal).
This meridian primarily governs diseases arising from blood, including mania, malaria, sweating due to warm pathogens, nasal congestion or epistaxis, sores on the lips, neck swelling, pharyngeal obstruction (Hou Bi), edema of the large abdomen, pain and swelling of the knee patella, and pain along the chest, breast, groin, Futu, anterolateral leg, and dorsum of the foot, with dysfunction of the middle toe.
If Qi is excessive, the anterior aspect of the body will be hot; if Stomach Qi is surplus, digestion is rapid with easy hunger, and urine is yellow. If Qi is deficient, the anterior aspect of the body will be cold; if there is cold in the Stomach, distension occurs. In excess patterns, the Renying pulse is three times larger than the Cunkou pulse; in deficiency patterns, the Renying pulse is smaller than the Cunkou pulse (from *Ling Shu*).
○ During the Chen hour (7:00-9:00 AM), Qi flows from Yingxiang LI20 to Chengqi ST1, ascends to Touwei ST8, passes through Renying ST9, circulates through the chest and abdomen, and descends to Lidui ST45 at the tip of the toe (from *Ru Men*).
○ The root of the Yangming Meridian is at Lidui ST45, and it knots at Sangda (Great Palate, described as clamping the ears) (from *Ling Shu*).
