Flying Dust Entering the Eye: This condition is inherently harmless. If foreign objects, flying dust, or filaments accidentally enter the eye, it constitutes an external injury. This occurs because dust and debris adhere between the eyelids, sticking firmly and unable to be expelled, causing pain, dryness, difficulty in opening the eyes, tearing, and a gritty sensation, which subsequently leads to the formation of a membrane (obscuring film). At the initial stage, the treatment method involves wrapping silk thread around the foot of an earring, flipping the upper and lower eyelids inside out, and拨 (picking) out the dust particles. If this method is not known initially and treatment is delayed, over time, an opacity (nebula) will inevitably grow to cover the pupil. In such cases, medicinal powders must be blown into the eye. The inner eyelid should be carefully inspected; at sites where foreign bodies are adhering, there will invariably be blood accumulation forming lumps or fleshy nodules. These represent the root of the pathology. A small sharp needle should be used to pick at these areas. If dust has pierced the tissue, pricking to release toxic blood can address the root cause. This is classified as an external disease. For early stages, wrap silk thread around the handle of a copper spoon to twist and extract the dust. For chronic cases, flip the eyelids to inspect; wash accumulated deposits until flat, apply Qingliang San (Cooling Powder), and administer internal formulas to dissipate blood stasis and clear heat.

Trichiasis (Inverted Eyelashes): This condition arises from Wind-Heat affecting the Spleen and Lung meridians. The Lung is the canopy of the five zang organs, governing the skin and hair of the body. When Lung Qi is deficient, the skin contracts and hair falls out. The Spleen often harbors Damp-Heat, causing frequent swelling of the upper eyelid. Generally, when the Liver is affected by Heat, tears flow frequently; the eyes suffer from pain, itching, photophobia, redness, dryness, and difficulty opening. Frequent rubbing and pulling with hands cause the skin of the upper and lower eyelids to gradually tighten and constrict, leading the eyelashes to invert inward, piercing the eye and obstructing vision at the pupil. Over time, opacities develop, and tilting the head prevents normal sight. Treatment: First, wash away blood stasis. Then, use bamboo forceps to lift the eyelid and moxibustion (4–5 moxa cones) is advisable to encourage outward growth of the lashes, thereby curing the disease. If opacities exist in the eye, apply Yin Er Yang Wu Dan (Yin Two Yang Five Elixir) via insufflation to dissolve them. The application of forceps must follow specific mantras/techniques to ensure proper lifting; keep the area dry to prevent ulceration and scarring. If the skin detaches, apply Guang Fen (Lead Carbonate) mixed with sesame oil morning and evening; over time, healthy tissue regenerates, and vision returns to normal.
