When the Chong and Ren meridians are abundant in blood and Qi, and the Spleen and Stomach Qi is strong, milk will be sufficient and thick; this indicates a robust source of transformation and generation. If there are no other symptoms, but only scanty milk, it is due to stagnation of Qi and Blood; use Xingqi Xuru Tang (Qi-Regulating Lactation Decoction). If the Spleen and Stomach Qi is weak, food intake is low, and the Chong and Ren meridians have been deficient since youth, the person’s face will likely appear yellowish; in this case, milk will be scanty and thin, and the nursing infant will also be frail and prone to illness. It is essential to administer formulas that nourish Qi and Blood while promoting lactation; Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) with 5 fen of Honghua (Carthamus tinctorius) is suitable, or Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Fuling (Poria), Huafen (Trichosanthes root), Gancao (Licorice), Wangbuliuxing (Vaccaria seed), Maidong (Ophiopogon tuber), Loulu (Radix Cynanchum Atrati), Chuanshanjia (Pangolin scales), Tongcao (Tetrapanax papyrifer stem), and pig trotter juice decocted together. If lactation-promoting medicines yield little effect and milk remains scanty, it is because the woman’s Qi and Blood are severely deficient, and body fluids are short; further medication is of little benefit. If postpartum milk fails to flow accompanied by high fever, dizziness, headache, or heat and pain below the breasts, Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder) is the primary treatment. In cases where a parturient has abundant Qi and Blood but suffers from congestion and stagnation preventing flow, the method should be to dredge and unblock; use Shenghua Tang (Generation of Life Decoction) with Muxiang (Aucklandia root), Qingpi (Green tangerine peel), Baizhi (Angelica dahurica), Huafen (Trichosanthes root), and Chuanshanjia (Pangolin scales) decocted. There are also instances where Mai Dong (Ophiopogon tuber), Gualouren (Trichosanthes seed), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes root), Renshen (Ginseng), Kuizi (Abelmoschus manihot seed), Zhu Yi (Pig pancreas), Mutong (Akebia stem), Loulu (Radix Cynanchum Atrati), and pig trotters are boiled and eaten to promote lactation. For cases where deficiency of Qi and Blood leads to dryness, obstruction, and lack of flow, tonics such as Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) or Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) are appropriate to tonify the deficiency, allowing milk to flow naturally. The "Quan Shu" contains two recipes for Zhuti Tang (Pig Trotter Decoction) to treat milk non-flow due to Qi and Blood insufficiency. For Spleen deficiency, low food intake, and absence of milk, Xiangsha Sijunzi Tang (Costus and Amomum Four Gentlemen Decoction) is suitable. If milk is about to arrive but has not yet flowed smoothly, Zhuti Geng (Pig Trotter Soup) and Yongquan San (Springing Spring Powder) are recommended. Regarding spontaneous leakage of milk, it is caused by insecurity of the Yangming Stomach Qi; Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) or Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) should be used to tonify. If leakage is due to Heat in the Blood of the Yangming channel, Baoyin Jian (Preserve Yin Decoction) or Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) with Zhizi (Gardenia fruit) is suitable. If leakage is caused by Liver Fire rushing upward leading to breast distension and swelling, Jiajian Yiyin Jian (Modified One-Yin Decoction) is appropriate. If there is excessive milk causing fullness and leakage, medication is unnecessary; warm cloth compresses should be applied to dissipate the congestion. Spontaneous milk secretion before childbirth is called Ruqi (Breast Weeping); children born under these conditions often fail to survive. If a parturient experiences gushing milk due to overexertion, this is a Jue syndrome (reversal condition) caused by Yang Qi deficiency; Dushen Tang (Single Ginseng Decoction) is the primary treatment.
Xingqi Xuru Tang (Qi-Regulating Lactation Decoction): Treats Qi and Blood stagnation in parturients with no other symptoms, presenting only as scanty milk. Dihuang (Rehmannia root), Danggui (Angelica sinensis), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong) each 1 qian; Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome, stir-fried with earth), Fuling (Poria) each 6 fen; Zhi Xiangfu (Cyperus rotundus, processed), Chenpi (Citrus reticulata peel), Honghua (Carthamus tinctorius) each 5 fen; Chuanshanjia (Pangolin scales) 3 slices (stir-fried); Muxiang (Aucklandia root) 2 fen. Decoct with half water and half wine, then take orally.
Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder): Treats non-flow of milk accompanied by high fever and dizziness/headache due to deficiency. Renshen (Ginseng), Fuling (Poria), Danggui (Angelica sinensis), Baishao (White peony root, stir-fried), Jiegeng (Platycodon root)... [Text incomplete in source]...
Zhuti Tang (Pig Trotter Decoction): Treats non-flow of milk due to Qi and Blood insufficiency in parturients. Use the ingredients of Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction), plus Zhi Huangqi (Astragalus root, honey-fried), Loulu (Radix Cynanchum Atrati), Chenpi (Citrus reticulata peel), Mutong (Akebia stem). First, boil one pig trotter to obtain two bowls of broth, then decoct the herbs in this broth and take orally. Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes root) may be added.
Another Formula: Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong) 1 liang, Tongcao (Tetrapanax papyrifer stem) 2 liang, Gancao (Licorice) 1 qian, Chuanshanjia (Pangolin scales) 14 slices (stir-fried). Wash and chop one pig trotter, add six bowls of water, and decoct together with the herbs until three bowls remain. Add Scallion, Ginger, and salt for seasoning, strain, and drink the liquid. This assists Qi and Blood, allowing milk to flow naturally. In summer, avoid exposure to cold; washing breasts with Scallion water occasionally is beneficial. Avoid raw and cold foods.
Xiangsha Sijunzi Tang (Costus and Amomum Four Gentlemen Decoction): Treats Spleen deficiency in parturients, resulting in poor appetite and absence of milk. Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome, stir-fried with earth), Fuling (Poria), Maidong (Ophiopogon tuber, heart removed) each 8 fen... [Text incomplete in source]...
Tongcao Zhuti Geng (Tetrapanax Pig Trotter Soup): One pig trotter, Tongcao (Tetrapanax papyrifer stem) 1 liang. Boil in water until reduced by half. Drink the soup, and concurrently take Yongquan San (Springing Spring Powder) to ensure flow.
Yongquan San (Springing Spring Powder): Wangbuliuxing (Vaccaria seed), Qumai (Dianthus superbus herb), Maidong (Ophiopogon tuber), Longgu (Fossilized bones, calcined), Chuanshanjia (Pangolin scales, stir-fried) in equal parts. Grind into powder. Take 1 qian per dose... [Text incomplete in source]...

Jiajian Yiyin Jian (Modified One-Yin Decoction): Treats Water Deficiency with Fire Excess. Dihuang (Rehmannia root), Baishao (White peony root, stir-fried), Maidong (Ophiopogon tuber, heart removed) each 2 qian; Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia root) 3 to 5 qian; Zhimu (Anemarrhena rhizome)...
