These three conditions also belong to the category of Chanhou Feng (Choked Throat Wind). They are largely similar with minor differences. Because the swelling locks and tightens the throat, it is named Jinhou Feng (Tight Throat Wind). Since the throat is tightened and cannot produce sound, it is named Yazhang Hou Feng (Mute Miasma Throat Wind). The throat feels distended, the tongue swells and protrudes out of the mouth unable to retract, twitching constantly, thus it is named Ningshe Hou Feng (Playing Tongue Throat Wind). All are dangerous syndromes. Initially, external treatment methods for Chanhou Feng should be applied, followed by the use of Yuanzhu Dan (Pearl Pill) or similar insufflation powders, and decoction formulas governing the throat should be taken after appropriate modifications.
When the "moths" (tonsillar enlargement) form inside the throat fossa, it is called Luo Jing E Hou (Well-Falling Moth Throat), which cannot be inspected directly. Urgently press Yuwei Acupoint (YUWEI, EX-HN14) and Jingqu Acupoint (JINGQU, LU8), and refer to Volume 1 regarding single and double moth throats to understand. Perform fire moxibustion three times using a lamp wick, then puncture Shaoshang Acupoint (SHAOSHANG, LU11) to express evil blood. Insufflate Yuanzhu Dan, and take Jiajian Ganjie Jiedu Tang (Modified Licorice and Platycodon Decoction for Detoxification) as a decoction.
This condition initially arises in front of the ear, resembling Luoli (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis), gradually attacking the throat, causing redness, swelling, obstruction, and pain, hindering diet. Treatment must not be delayed. Use Shengong Pixie San (Divine Power Expelling Evil Powder) or Shenxian Huoming Tang (Immortal Life-Saving Decoction), heavily adding Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower, *Lonicerae Japonicae Flos*) and Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillary Bulb, *Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus*), and take as a decoction. If there is constipation, scanty dark urine, thirst preferring cold drinks and aversion to heat, add Jiu Da Huang (Wine-processed Rhubarb, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* processed with wine) two to three qian. If still unrelieved, add Yuan Ming Fen (Mirabilite, *Natrii Sulfas*) five to six fen and take as a decoction. For insufflation, Yuanzhu Dan remains extremely effective.
Houte E (Throat Moth), Hou Feng (Throat Wind), Hou Bi (Throat Closure), Chan Hou (Entangling Throat), Suo Hou (Locked Throat), Wen Yi (Plague/Epidemic), and Bai Hou (White Throat) all fall under Baihou Bi (White Throat Obstruction). "Bi" denotes pain, disease, and insensibility. Yang syndrome refers to excess fire pathology, where accumulated heat in the zang-fu organs generates wind due to extreme heat. Wind and fire rapidly agitate phlegm and saliva, blocking the narrow passage of the throat, making breathing difficult, leading to clenched jaws and loss of consciousness within moments. If not treated urgently, most cases are incurable. The condition is fierce, and medicinal efficacy may not be immediate. First, scrape the posterior neck fossa with sesame oil, or urgently puncture Shaoshang Acupoint (SHAOSHANG, LU11) to express evil blood. Various external treatments are detailed in Zheng Yi's Throat Chapter. Subsequently, insufflate Yuanzhu Dan, and then take the aforementioned comprehensive throat formulas, modified according to the severity of the illness.
