A person suffered from edema and ulceration of the legs and feet for over ten years without healing. Later, bean-sized growths appeared. After rinsing the mouth thoroughly, they chewed these growths and applied them to the affected area, resulting in complete recovery within a few days.
Treat according to formulas for sores (ulcers). If there is no effect, wash with water boiled with *Impatiens balsamina* (Fengxianhua), including roots and leaves; it will surely heal within a few days.
This is Youfeng Dandu (Wandering Wind Erysipelas). Apply Qingliang Gao (Cooling Paste, see section on Burns and Scalds) externally. Avoid eating fresh meat for half a month; the effect is miraculous. This is an experience formula from Linwu Shanshan.
In this condition, when touched by others, it feels extremely cold, but the patient only complains of heat in the legs. This indicates damp-heat lurking in the meridians. Apply Malan Gao (Malan Paste, see section on Wandering Wind Erysipelas) externally.
Treat according to the formula for Fugu Ju (Bone-abscess Abscess) in the Yin Ju (Yin Abscess) section.
Named Yudu Yong (Fish-belly Carbuncle). This occurs due to tight muscles and transverse sinews at points of exertion in the body, causing unbearable pain. Externally apply Zhayao (Binding Medicine) for support; internally, take Wutong Wan and Xingxiao Wan alternately morning and evening. It can be eliminated immediately upon onset. Incision is strictly contraindicated; allow the medicine to cause suppuration and drainage to avoid damaging sinews and causing leg atrophy. If the color is white, treat according to Yin Ju protocols; do not use Zhayao. Pregnant women must not use Zhayao, as it may cause miscarriage. This is an empirical formula from Linwu Shanshan. Zhayao and Wutong Wan are found in the section on Carbuncles and Toxins.
Named Hanmao Chuang (Cold-Hair Sore). Use residue from tofu making, stir-fried until hot, and apply externally. Wrap tightly with cloth; replace immediately when cool. Healing occurs after one night of wrapping; the effect is miraculous.
Cangzhu San: Zhen Maoshan Cangzhu (true Atractylodes lancea, soaked in rice-washing water for one day and night, dried, and stir-fried with salt water) 5 qian, Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, coarse bark removed, soaked in wine for one day)...
For anyone with weak legs and feet unable to stand, yet having a good appetite and prone to hunger: if they endure slight hunger, their head and face become hot instantly, and some suffer from persistent coughing. This is Wei Zheng (Flaccidity Syndrome). It arises because Stomach Fire of the Yangming channel rushes upward to Lung Metal. The Lung, pressured by fire, cannot transmit clear and descending Qi to the Lower Jiao, leading to the drying up of Kidney Water and depletion of bone marrow, hence the inability to stand. Meanwhile, Stomach Fire continues to burn, causing excessive hunger. Over time, fluids are exhausted and marrow dries up, making it difficult to treat. One must urgently clear the fire in the Stomach! However, clearing fire without nourishing water fails to control Stomach Fire, which is hard to extinguish. Use Qiwei Zhishen Tang (Decoction for Revitalizing Flaccidity with Divine Effect): Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Ganjuhua (Chanthemi Flos) each 1 liang, Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen) 3 qian, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Taidang (Codonopsis Radix) each 5 qian, Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) 2 qian. Decoct in water and drink. After one dose, fire decreases; after two doses, fire recedes; after ten doses, flaccidity shows improvement; after thirty doses, full recovery is achieved. This formula is remarkable because Ju Hua acts as the sovereign herb, clearing Yangming fire without damaging Stomach Qi. The other herbs merely nourish Kidney Water, generate Liver Blood, strengthen Spleen Qi, and resolve phlegm. Generally, treating Wei Zheng focuses on the Yangming channel; clearing Yangming fire while assisting with other herbs ensures success.
