Treats conditions where the exterior syndrome of Cold Damage (Shanghan) or Warm Disease (Wenbing) has not yet resolved, manifesting as high fever, aversion to wind, headache, stiffness of the neck, painful and restless joints, alternating chills and fever. The pathogenic factor remains in the interior, causing chest fullness, hardness in the hypochondrium, vomiting and rebellious qi, irritability, thirst, and muteness/silence.
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 3 fen), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (1 fen).
Grind the above into a coarse powder. For each dose, take 3 qian, add 1 zhan of water, 4 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 2 Zao (Jujubae Fructus). Decoct until 60% of the liquid remains, filter out the dregs, and take warm.
Treats retention and accumulation of fluid retention (Shuiyin) that lingers and does not dissipate, leading to distension and oppression in the chest and diaphragm, abdominal distension, wheezing and rebellious qi, dry mouth with desire to drink, vomiting and hiccups, nausea, heatstroke, irritability and thirst, spleen dampness generating jaundice, undigested food diarrhea (Suxie), and watery dysentery with un-digested food.
Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (1 liang 1 fen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Zhuling (Polyporus), Fuling (Poria), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) (each 3 fen), Guirou (Cinnamomi Cortex) (half liang). *Note: Text says "Gui", typically Cinnamomi Cortex in this context for warming yang/dripping dampness, though sometimes Ramulus. Given "Gui" alone often implies Rou in older texts or specific contexts, but standard formula Si Ling Tang uses Gui Zhi. I will use Cinnamomi Ramulus/Cortex based on context of fluid metabolism. Let's stick to Cinnamomi Ramulus as per standard Wu Ling San derivatives, or generic Cinnamon.* -> Corrected to Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) as it is standard for water metabolism formulas like Wuling San, but text says "Gui". I will translate as Cinnamomi Ramulus/Cortex. Let's use Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) for consistency with TCM theory of promoting urination, or Cinnamomi Cortex if it's for warming. Given "Shui Yin", Guizhi is more common. However, strictly "Gui" can be Rou. I will use Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) as it is the standard component in similar formulas (Si Ling Tang). Wait, the text lists "Gui" separately from others. I will translate as Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) assuming typo or shorthand for Guizhi in this specific prescription context, or simply Cinnamon. Let's use Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) for accuracy in function. Actually, let's look at the ingredients: Ze Xie, Bai Zhu, Zhu Ling, Fu Ling are Si Ling Tang. Si Ling Tang uses Gui Zhi. So "Gui" here is Gui Zhi.
Grind the above into a fine powder. For each dose, take 1 qian, mix with boiled water and take orally, without restriction of time.
Treats yin-yang blockage and separation, disharmony of Ying and Wei, failure of Water and Fire to interact, imbalance of cold and heat. Pathogenic heat flares upward causing irritability, mental confusion, stupor, obstruction, and loss of consciousness. Cold qi rushes upward causing chest and diaphragm blockage and Huoluan (cholera-like symptoms).
Xiaoshi (Natrii Nitras), Liuhuang (Sulfur) (ground finely, fried in a pot until appropriate condition, then ground finely and added), Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (each 1 liang).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Use water-boiled wheat paste to bind and form pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wutongzi). Take 20 pills per dose with rice water, without restriction of time.
Treats hematemesis and epistaxis due to Heat Disease that do not stop.
Qingzhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), Zihuang Qin (Scutellariae Radix - young root), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen), Fulonggan (Dragon's Liver Earth) (each 2 qian), Sheng'ou Zhi (Fresh Lotus Rhizoma Juice) (2 he).
First, take 1.5 zhan of water and decoct Qingzhuru and Zihuang Qin until 1 zhan remains. Filter out the dregs, add Puhuang, Fulonggan, etc., stir well, and divide into three doses to take at any time.
Resolves Wind-Warmth and epidemic sores/rashes.
Weirui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Gange (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Decoct 2 qian in 1 zhan of water until 70% remains. Filter out the dregs and take hot after meals.
Treats latent summerheat qi, regardless of whether recent or long-standing. It addresses cases where emesis or acupuncture have failed, leaving the patient bedridden and critically weak. It also treats residual toxins from Cold Damage and miasma/qi from mountains and forests in all four seasons.
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma - high quality), Bubu Hui Mu (likely a local/mineral name, possibly referring to a specific earth or mineral, literal translation: White Ash Wood/Earth? Context suggests a purgative or clearing agent. "Bai Bu Hui Mu" is obscure. In some texts, it might refer to a specific mineral or herb. I will transliterate as Bubu Huimu), Heiqianniu (Pharbitidis Semen) (1.5 liang, half fried, half raw), Fenshuang (Calomelas/Natrii Chloridum Sublimatum? No, Fenshuang is usually Calomelas/Hydrargyri Chloridum Mite) (1 fen, bright/clear quality).
Except for Fenshuang which is ground separately, grind the rest into powder. Mix with Fenshuang evenly. Bind with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wutongzi). Take according to the syndrome, 3-5 pills per dose, after meals, with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) decoction.
