Ping An: This chapter appears in Volume 8, Chapter 28 "Tong Ping Xu Shi Lun" (Comprehensive Evaluation of Deficiency and Excess) of the *Suwen* (Basic Questions), and also in Volume 11, Chapter 4 of the *Jiayi Jing* (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion).
Huoluan (Huo Luan, an acute gastrointestinal disorder characterized by severe vomiting and diarrhea): Puncture five points beside the Shu (Transport) points, three points on the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel and its upper lateral aspect. (For Huoluan, puncture the Shu points and their lateral aspects which are indicated for treating Huoluan; take five points. Also, take three points from the lower vessels of the Foot-Yangming Channel and the Shu points and their lateral aspects above that are indicated for treating Huoluan. Ping An: Regarding "five points beside Shu," Wang Bing's commentary in the *Suwen* states: "Take the Zhi Shi point beside the Shu point of the Shaoyin Kidney Channel." The New Correction cites Yang Shangshan's note: "Puncture the Shu points and their lateral aspects indicated for Huoluan, taking five points.")

Puncture five meridians for Xianjing (Xian Jing, epilepsy and convulsive disorders): Insert five needles into the Hand-Taiyin Lung Channel, insert five needles into the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Channel, insert one cun lateral to the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Channel, one cun lateral to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel, and insert three needles at five cun above the ankle. (To puncture the meridians for Xianjing, there are five distinct categories: take five points on the Hand-Taiyin Channel; take five points at the Shu-Stream point of the Foot-Taiyang Channel; take three points lateral to the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Shaoyang Channel; take one cun lateral to the Foot-Yangming Channel and insert three needles at five cun above the ankle. Ping An: The *Jiayi Jing* reads "Hand and Foot Taiyin" instead of just "Hand Taiyin." The *Suwen* reads "Hand-Shaoyin Heart Channel" instead of "Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Channel," and the *Jiayi Jing* reads "Hand and Foot Shaoyin." Both the *Suwen* and *Jiayi Jing* lack the character "cun" after "one" and the character "zhi" after "three needles." Furthermore, according to Wang Bing's commentary in the *Suwen*, the treatment following "insert five needles into the Hand-Taiyin" is indicated for Huoluan. The New Correction states: "According to another version of the commentary, it does not treat Huoluan. Both the *Jiayi Jing* and the *Taisu* indicate puncturing for Xianjing; Wang Bing's interpretation as treating Huoluan is incorrect." Additionally, regarding the note "take three points lateral to the Luo-Connecting point," another version reads "take points below one cun lateral to the Luo-Connecting point.")

For Ye Yong (Ye Yong, abscess in the axilla) with high fever: Puncture five points on the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel. If the fever persists after puncturing the abscess, puncture three points on the Hand-Xinzhui Pericardium Channel. Puncture the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Channel, and the Hui-Meeting point of the Large Bone (Jianyu LI15), three points each. (The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel descends through the chest, connects with the Liver, and belongs to the Gallbladder; it follows the interior of the costal region to the axilla. Therefore, if there is a large hot abscess between the axilla and hypochondrium, puncture the points governed by the Foot-Shaoyang Channel, taking five points. If the heat does not subside, puncture the Hand-Xinzhui Pericardium Channel, whose vessel follows the chest down three cun under the axilla and reaches up to the axilla; thus, take three points for the axillary abscess. Also, take three points each from the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Channel. The "Hui-Meeting point of the Large Bone" refers to the area where the Hand-Taiyin Lung Channel follows the inner arm along the lower edge of the bone, which is the meeting place of the channels and collaterals. Ping An: The *Suwen* and *Jiayi Jing* read "puncture and the heat does not stop" instead of "puncture the abscess and the heat." Two characters are originally missing above the word "zhi xue" (points governed by) in the commentary; the first character is incomplete, and the second is written as "zhu" (govern); I tentatively reconstruct it as "suo zhu" (indicated for). Yuan's edition reads "Zhejin GB22".)
