Yellow Emperor asked, saying: Regarding the acupuncture for the ascending and descending of Qi, I wish to know the essentials. May I ask: When the Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler) Qi fails to migrate to its proper position (i.e., the new year's Si Tian Qi does not take office as scheduled), causing the transformational Qi of Si Tian to lose its normal administration, will the mechanism of the transformation of all things become chaotic? Consequently, will it cause diseases among the people? Can we take preventive measures to eliminate these hazards in advance to save the masses? I wish to hear your explanation.
Clarifying the rules of Qi migration allows for prevention.
Qibo bowed twice and said: Your question is most detailed! What you say are profound principles. The Sage harbors compassion and mercy to save the living beings, so I will do my utmost to expound this Way, to reveal the deep and subtle medical truths.
If the Tai Yang (Solar Cold Water) Qi from the previous year re-manifests (i.e., does not retreat), it prevents Jue Yin (Wind Wood) Qi from migrating to its proper position.
This means the heavenly movement is not harmonious, the four seasons fall out of order, and epidemics arise.
"Failure to migrate" means the righteous Qi is blocked in the upper part. One should drain the Ying-Spring (Flowing) acupoint of the Foot Jue Yin Liver Meridian. Because the Qi flows smoothly but then becomes blocked again, a draining method is used. Specifically, one should select Xingjian (LR2), the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Jue Yin Liver Meridian.
This point is located in the depression between the first and second toes, where the artery beats. The needle insertion depth is 0.6 cun (same-body inch), retained for seven breaths. When the Deqi (arrival of Qi) occurs, remove the needle quickly.
If the Jue Yin (Wind Wood) Qi re-manifests, it prevents Shao Yin (Ministerial Fire) Qi from migrating to its proper position.
The Heaven loses its seasonal timing, meaning the climatic commands are incorrect.
"Failure to migrate" means the Qi is blocked in the upper part; Heat desires to transform, but Wind spreads externally.
One should puncture the Ying-Spring point of the Hand Jue Yin Pericardium Meridian.
The Ying-Spring point of the Hand Jue Yin Pericardium Meridian is Laogong (PC8), located in the center of the palm. The needle insertion depth is 0.3 cun, retained for six breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
If the Shao Yin (Ministerial Fire) Qi re-manifests, it prevents Tai Yin (Damp Earth) Qi from migrating to its proper position.
This is because the Zi-Wu years have excess days, and the Chou-Wei years fail to attain the central correct position.
"Failure to migrate" means the Qi stagnates in the upper part; Rain desires to transform, but Heat spreads in the Heaven.
One should puncture the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Tai Yin Spleen Meridian.
The Ying-Spring point of the Foot Tai Yin Spleen Meridian is Dadu (SP2), located in the depression behind the proximal phalanx joint of the big toe; it is the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Tai Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.3 cun, retained for seven breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
If the Tai Yin (Damp Earth) Qi re-manifests, it prevents Shao Yang (Ministerial Fire) Qi from migrating to its proper position.
This is because the Chou-Wei years have excess days, and the Yin-Shen years fail to attain the central correct position.
"Failure to migrate" means the Qi is obstructed and unconnected.
Heat desires to transform, but Rain re-manifests in the Heaven.
One should puncture the Ying-Spring point of the Hand Shao Yang Sanjiao Meridian.
The Ying-Spring point of the Hand Shao Yang Sanjiao Meridian is Yemen (SJ2), located in the depression between the fourth and fifth fingers; it is the Ying-Spring point of the Hand Shao Yang pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.2 cun, retained for three breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
If the Shao Yang (Ministerial Fire) Qi re-manifests, it prevents Yang Ming (Dry Metal) Qi from migrating to its proper position.
This is because the Yin-Shen years have excess days, and the Mao-You years fail to preside over the Si Tian position.
"Failure to migrate" means the Qi has not reached the upper part.
Dryness desires to govern the Heaven, but Heat transforms and governs the Heavenly command.
One should puncture the Ying-Spring point of the Hand Tai Yin Lung Meridian.
The Ying-Spring point of the Hand Tai Yin Lung Meridian is Yuji (LU10), located on the medial side behind the proximal phalanx joint of the thumb, in the scattered pulse lines; it is the Ying-Spring point of the Hand Tai Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.2 cun, retained for three breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
If the Yang Ming (Dry Metal) Qi re-manifests, it prevents Tai Yang (Cold Water) Qi from migrating to its proper position.
This is because the Mao-You years have not ended their days, and the Chen-Xu years fail to obtain the Si Zheng position.
"Failure to migrate" means the Qi is blocked again. Cold desires to move, but Dryness transforms.
One should puncture the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Shao Yin Kidney Meridian.
The Ying-Spring point of the Foot Shao Yin Kidney Meridian is Ran Gu (KI2), located in the depression below the prominent bone anterior to the medial malleolus; it is the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Shao Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.3 cun, retained for three breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
The Yellow Emperor said: For cases where migration is stalled and key points need to be unblocked, I wish to understand: If the old year's Qi does not retreat, can we reduce its excess so that it does not cause harm?
Qibo said: If the Qi is excessive and re-manifests in the correct position, this is called "not exceeding the position."
This is referred to as "Bu Zheng Zai Zhi Tian," meaning the old year's Si Tian Qi still governs the Heavenly weather and cannot retreat.
This prevents the Earth Qi from transforming in the normal sequence, and the new Si Tian Qi cannot migrate to its position. Thus, the old year's Qi re-manifests, and the climate remains like the previous year.
In the new year, the Si Tian Qi fails to occupy the central governing position, and the previous year's Si Tian Qi continues to govern the Heaven. Therefore, the Qi exceeds the normal command, deviating from routine, thereby causing disaster diseases among the people.
In Si-Hai years, due to excess days, Jue Yin Wind Wood Qi does not retreat.
By the Zi-Wu years, it still governs the Heaven.
Wind moves upward, and Wood transformation spreads in the Heaven.
The transformation of rain and dampness is not controlled by wind, leading to extreme disasters.
One should puncture the He-Sea point of the Foot Jue Yin Liver Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Foot Jue Yin Liver Meridian is Qu Quan (LR8), located below the medial condyle of the knee, above the large tendon, below the small tendon, in the posterior depression; it is obtained by flexing the knee. It is the He-Sea point of the Foot Jue Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.6 cun, retained for seven breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
In Zi-Wu years, due to excess days, Shao Yin Ministerial Fire Qi does not retreat.
By the Chou-Wei years, it still governs the Heaven.
Heat moves upward, and Fire residual transformation spreads in the Heaven.
The deficiency of dry and clear Qi means Rain transformation is not controlled by Heat; Heat re-manifests in the Heavenly command.
One should puncture the He-Sea point of the Hand Jue Yin Pericardium Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Hand Jue Yin Pericardium Meridian is Qu Ze (PC3), located in the depression under the medial border of the elbow; it is obtained by flexing the elbow. It is the He-Sea point of the Hand Jue Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.3 cun, retained for seven breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
In Chou-Wei years, due to excess days, Tai Yin Damp Earth Qi does not retreat.
By the Yin-Shen years, it still governs the Heaven.
Dampness moves upward, and Rain transformation spreads in the Heaven.
The deficiency of Cold transformation means Heat transformation is not controlled by Dampness; Dampness re-manifests in the Heavenly command.
One should puncture the He-Sea point of the Foot Tai Yin Spleen Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Foot Tai Yin Spleen Meridian is Yin Ling Quan (SP9), located in the depression below the medial condyle; it is the He-Sea point of the Foot Tai Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.5 cun, retained for seven breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
In Yin-Shen years, due to excess days, Shao Yang Ministerial Fire Qi does not retreat.
By the Mao-You years, it still governs the Heaven.
Heat moves upward, and Fire transformation spreads in the Heaven.
The deficiency of Dry and Clear Qi means Heat transformation governs and spreads in the Heavenly command.
One should puncture the He-Sea point of the Hand Shao Yang Sanjiao Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Hand Shao Yang Sanjiao Meridian is Tian Jing (SJ10), located behind the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, one cun above the elbow tip, in the depression between two tendons; it is obtained by flexing the elbow. It is the He-Sea point of the Hand Shao Yang pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.3 cun. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
In Mao-You years, due to excess days, Yang Ming Dry Metal Qi does not retreat.
By the Chen-Xu years, it still governs the Heaven.
Dryness moves upward, and Dry transformation spreads in the Heaven.
The deficiency of Wind means Cold transformation is not controlled by Clear Qi; Clear Qi governs and spreads in the Heavenly command.
One should puncture the He-Sea point of the Hand Tai Yin Lung Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Hand Tai Yin Lung Meridian is Chi Ze (LU5), located in the transverse crease of the elbow, where the artery beats; it is the He-Sea point of the Hand Tai Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.3 cun, retained for three breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
In Chen-Xu years, due to excess days, Tai Yang Cold Water Qi does not retreat.
By the Si-Hai years, it still governs the Heaven.
Cold moves upward, and severe Water transformation spreads in the Heaven.
The deficiency of Heat means Wind is not controlled by Cold; Cold governs and spreads in the Heavenly command.
One should puncture the He-Sea point of the Foot Shao Yin Kidney Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Foot Shao Yin Kidney Meridian is Yin Gu (KI10), located behind the medial condyle of the knee, below the large tendon, above the external tendon; it is felt upon pressure and obtained by flexing the knee. It is the He-Sea point of the Foot Shao Yin pulse. The needle insertion depth is 0.4 cun. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle quickly.
Thus, when Heaven and Earth Qi reverse, they transform into human diseases. By using this acupuncture method, one can preventively restore balance.
Human Qi connects with Heaven and Earth. Changes in the Qi intersection, with preceding and succeeding residual Qi retreating, can be balanced by the Tian Yuan acupuncture method to address the excess, tracing the origin and end to achieve peace.
The Yellow Emperor asked, saying: If the Gang (Yang) and Rou (Yin) Stems lose their positions, causing the Qi of the Heavenly Movement to become deficient, thereby causing diseases among the people, can it be balanced? If the Heavenly Movement is like emptiness, can it be eliminated by acupuncture?
Qibo said: How profound your question is! Clarify the profound principles. As Heaven and Earth shift, after three years, an epidemic will transform. This is called "the root becoming visible"; there must be an escape gate. This is called investigating the root of Heaven and Earth disasters; there must be distant dangers, and the escape gate is the portal.
Suppose in the Jia-Zi year, Gang and Rou lose their positions.
Rou occupies the position, while the upper Gang is lost. Although the time of transition arrives, the days of Jia-Zi have not yet ended. The lower position of Ji-Mao (previous year) has migrated, but this is called Rou Gan being isolated and empty in the lower position. The Gang Gan has not properly taken office; Ji does not align with Jia. Thus, the Earth Movement becomes deficient, and Wood Qi overcomes it.
Gang is not proper, Rou is isolated and deficient.
Jia does not align with Ji; Earth Movement is not commanding, and proper regulation is lost. Shao Yin does not transform. Therefore, both Heaven and Movement are deficient, allowing evil Qi to transform into epidemics.
The seasonal order is not commanded, so the pitch pipes do not correspond.
Si Tian still manifests, but the Central Movement has a winning Qi arriving. Jia has not arrived at Ji, but Ji has arrived. The Lu pipe sounds, but the Lü pipe is silent. That is, Huang Zhong Da Gong does not respond, while Jia Zhong Shao Gong responds. This indicates that the lower position of Ji-Mao isolates and governs the Earth Movement.
After three years like this, a major epidemic occurs.
If severe, it reaches its peak within three years from start to finish.
Examine its mildness or severity, observe its superficiality or depth.
Great deficiency and long-lasting administration indicate depth; depth indicates severity. If Movement is not proper and winning Qi persists for a long time, it is deep and severe. Severe cases reach completion in two years from start to finish.
When it is about to arrive, it can be treated with acupuncture. Explain the acupuncture method thus: For those who have manifested proper Qi but failed to migrate, acupuncture can be applied to treat current diseases. Only those who understand this know that a major epidemic will occur within three years. At that time, tonifying the deficient Qi brings auspiciousness. By carefully examining the severity, knowing the extent, one can preemptively regulate and balance it.
First, tonify Shenshu (BL23).
When Earth epidemic approaches and Kidney Qi is deficient, tonify first. Shenshu is located one cun and five fen laterally from the spinous process of the 14th thoracic vertebra. Before needling, warm the needle by holding it in the mouth. Use a Yuanli needle. While needling, chant: "Wu Di Shang Zhen, Liu Jia Xuan Ling, Qi Fu Zhi Yin, Bai Xie Bi Nian." Chant three times, then remove the needle from the mouth. Insert first to 0.2 cun, retain for six breaths. Then insert to 0.3 cun. When Deqi occurs, slowly withdraw the needle and press the point with the hand. Instruct the patient to swallow saliva three times to stabilize the Shen.
Three days later, puncture the Shu-Stream point of the Foot Tai Yin Spleen Meridian.
The Shu-Stream point of the Foot Tai Yin Spleen Meridian is Dabu (SP2) [Text says Da Bai, but context implies Shu-Stream, typically太白 Taibai SP3 or Ying-Spring Dadu SP2. Translating as per text 'Da Bai' but noting it is the Shu-Stream]. Located in the depression below the medial malleolus prominence, it is the Shu-Stream point of the Foot Tai Yin pulse. Warm the needle in the mouth. Before needling, chant: "Di Fu Tian Xing, Hu Ming Cheng Ling." Chant three times. Insert to 0.3 cun, retain for seven breaths. When Deqi occurs, quickly remove the needle.
If the lower position Ji-Mao does not arrive, and Jia-Zi stands alone, an Earth Li (pestilence) will occur in the following three years. The method of tonification and drainage is the same as for Jia-Zi.
This applies to Jia-Zi, Jia-Xu, Jia-Shen, Jia-Wu, Jia-Chen, Jia-Yin, and Ji-Chou, Ji-Hai, Ji-You, Ji-Wei, Ji-Si, Ji-Mao. All cases of Gang-Rou loss of position between Jia and Ji use this single method.
After acupuncture, avoid night travel and long journeys. Maintain purity and fasting for seven days. For those with chronic Kidney disease, face South at Yin hour, calm the Shen without chaotic thoughts, hold the breath for seven cycles, extend the neck, and swallow Qi as if swallowing a hard object. After seven cycles, swallow tongue saliva continuously.
Immortal methods of swallowing Qi can deepen roots and solidify the蒂 (base), receiving Mother Qi through Son. Swallowing Qi causes abdominal rumbling until Zi Qi meets Mu Yuan Qi, hence called "Returning to Origin." Long-term practice deepens roots and nourishes the base. Tongue saliva is called "Water of Tian Chi," beneficial for long-term consumption to nourish Essence and Blood, cleanse the Five Viscera, and irrigate the Yuan Sea. Also called "Water of Li Palace," "Jade Pool," "Divine Water." Do not spit it out; consume it to tonify Essence and Blood and benefit the Yuan Sea.
Suppose in the Bing-Yin year, Gang and Rou lose their positions.
Rou occupies the position, while the upper Gang is lost. Although the transitional year is attained, Bing has not migrated to take office. Xin-Si governs the泉水 (Spring/Source) upper position. Bing losing its Gang Stem means the Central Water Movement cannot exceed normally, but instead suffers from Earth overcoming it.
Upper Gang lost, Lower Rou cannot govern alone. Rou above implies insufficiency, let alone Rou losing Gang. Central Water Movement is not excessive, so fixed law cannot determine it.
Do not treat all Bing years as Water Excess; calculate the Heavenly Days to know the deficiency.
Heavenly manifestation is excessive, losing the upper proper position.
Although Heaven governs, this is the transformation of Bu Zheng (Manifesting Proper); the Proper Si Tian has not taken the proper position.
Heaven and Earth do not combine, so pitch pipes differ.
Rou arrives and Lu resonates, but Gang has not migrated and Lü is silent. That is, Shao Yu sounds while Da Yu does not.
Thus, Heavenly Movement loses order.
Transformation exists but is not normal transformation.
After three years, an epidemic transforms.
Transformation varies in severity, hence speed varies. Calculate the depth of Heavenly Days.
Examine severity; differences vary in size.
Large difference is seven fen (105 days); Small difference is five fen (75 days). Large difference arrives quickly; Small difference arrives slowly.
Slow arrival means reaching in three years; severe means reaching within three years. Calculate the difference in days to know the slowness of the Movement.
First, tonify Xinsu (BL15).
Xinsu is located one cun and half laterally from the spinous process of the 5th thoracic vertebra. Use a Yuanli needle, warming it during midday. Press the point with the hand until Qi moves, then chant: "Tai Shi Shang Qing, Dan Yuan Shou Ling." Chant three times. Visualize fire light below the point, then insert to 1.5 cun, retain for seven breaths. When Deqi occurs, advance to 0.3 cun. Flick the needle to induce Qi. When Deqi occurs, slowly withdraw the needle and press the point. Instruct the patient to hold breath for three cycles and swallow Qi.
Five days later, puncture the He-Sea point of the Kidney Meridian.
The He-Sea point of the Kidney Meridian is Yin Gu (KI10), located behind the medial condyle of the knee, below the large tendon, above the small tendon. Feel the response, obtain by flexing the knee. Use a Yuanli needle, warming in the mouth. Press the point and chant: "Da Wei Di Jun, Wu Qi Ji Zhen, Liu Xin Du Si, Fu Fu Hei Yun." Chant once. Insert to 0.4 cun. When Deqi occurs, quickly remove the needle.
If the lower Earth Jia-Zi Xin-Si, Rou does not attach to Gang, also called Loss of Position. Earth Movement is deficient, and Water Li will occur after three years. The acupuncture method is the same.
This applies to Bing-Yin, Bing-Zi, Bing-Xu, Bing-Shen, Bing-Wu, Bing-Chen, and Xin-Chou, Xin-Hai, Xin-You, Xin-Wei, Xin-Si, Xin-Mao. All cases of Gang-Rou loss of position calculate large/small differences for acupuncture.
After acupuncture, guard against excessive joy and desire. If not cautious, Qi will scatter again. Remain quiet for seven days.
After seven days, Shen Qi is solid, and Water Epidemic does not damage the Heart. To solidify, encourage little thinking.
Thinking damages Shen. Dwelling in clarity, Shen guards the Center, so Dao descends naturally, and Qi returns upward. Chaotic thoughts exhaust Shen; exhausting Shen makes Spirit a servant, distressing the Mind leads to chaos and premature death. Solid means Shen harmonious and Mind peaceful. Calm Heart is the Center.
Suppose in the Geng-Chen year, Gang and Rou lose their positions.
Yi occupies the position, losing upper Geng, i.e., Rou loses Gang. Although the year is attained, Geng has not reached the central position. Yi governs the lower position, treating the upper. Upper Geng loses its Gang Stem, so Central Metal Movement cannot exceed, but instead suffers from Fire overcoming it.
Upper position lost, lower position has no combination.
Yi-Wei is below, governing Earth isolation. No upper Gang to rectify, Heavenly Movement is deficient.
Yi-Geng Metal Movement, therefore not attracting each other.
Upper and lower attract, Yin and Yang combine. Si Tian and Movement each obtain their transformation.
Heavenly manifestation has not retreated, Central Movement wins. Not using Yang Year original victory/reversal, Branch-Stem do not combine, having upper-lower disorder, called Loss of Position.
Geng does not correspond and combine with Yi.
Gu Xian and Lin Zhong Shang tones do not respond.
Loss of position means same tones do not correspond. Gu Xian upper tube Geng-Chen Tai Shang does not respond to Lin Zhong lower tube Yi-Wei Shao Shang, which responds alone. Thus, Heavenly Movement transformation changes.
Therefore, four seasons are not constant.
After three years, a major epidemic occurs.
Metal Li, also called Sha Li (Killing Pestilence).
Examine Heavenly Days; differences vary in severity.
Large difference seven fen means Qi exceeds 105 days, which is severe. Small difference five fen means Qi exceeds 75 days, which is mild.
Mild means mild, arriving in three years.
Mild means slow.
Severe means severe, arriving in three years.
Severe means fast.
First, tonify Ganshu (BL18).
Ganshu is located one cun and half laterally from the spinous process of the 9th thoracic vertebra. Use a Yuanli needle, warming in the mouth. Press the point until Qi moves. Before needling, chant: "Qi Cong Shi Qing, Di Fu Liu Ding, Zuo Shi Cang Cheng, You Ru Huang Ting." Chant three times. Visualize Green Qi below the point, then insert 0.3 cun. When Deqi occurs, advance to 0.5 cun. When Deqi occurs, slowly withdraw the needle and press the point. Instruct the patient to swallow Qi.
Three days later, puncture the Jing-River point of the Lung Meridian.
The Jing-River point of the Lung Meridian is Jing Qu (LU8), located in the depression at the radial pulse, Hand Tai Yin Meridian. Use a Yuanli needle, warming in the mouth. Press with left hand and chant: "Tai Shi Shang Zhen, Wu Fu Di Jun, Yuan He Qi He, Si Ru Qi Shen." Chant three times. Insert to 0.3 cun, retain for two breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove the needle.
After acupuncture, calm Shen for seven days, avoid anger. Anger scatters True Qi. If lower Earth Jia-Zi Yi-Wei loses position, one Rou Gan governs alone with upper Geng, also called Loss of Position, i.e., isolated governance. After three years, Li transforms, named Metal Li.
Also called Sha Li.
Its arrival awaits time. Examine Earth Day differences, calculate severity to know speed.
Fast arrival takes three years; slow takes three more years. Its arrival is like Metal Li, acupuncture method same as before.
For all Yi-Geng losses of position, acupuncture method is the same. Heavenly Movements differ, but Metal Killing Ding disaster transforms human diseases. Same acupuncture repels it.
Liver desires peace, so do not anger.
Anger generates Yin; Liver is Yang Shen. Yin generation means Yang destruction. Sleep peacefully, calm the Will, do not recite evil words, so Yang Shen guards the Center.
Suppose in the Ren-Wu year, Gang and Rou lose their positions.
Lower attains position, upper loses Master. Si Tian manifests proper, Wood Movement becomes deficient. Although the year transitions, Heaven has not migrated. Central Movement wins, so Earth sees Ding-You governing alone, thus Dryness wins. Heaven has not transformed power, this is called Two Deficiencies.
Upper Ren has not migrated, lower Ding stands alone. Even though Yang year is deficient, disasters are similar. Three days later, Liver self-diseases. Wind transformation is not commanded, Movement loses Ren, failing to attain position. If Heaven retreats like manifestation, it can migrate properly, not needing restoration to correct Jue.
Upper and lower loss of position, attraction has its period.
Calculate Heavenly separation, adding fractions. If Heaven returns to position, attraction is achieved.
Severity of difference has its numbers.
Difference seven fen counts 105 days, the period of large difference. Difference five fen is 75 days, even milder below.
Lü and Lv two Jue tones lose harmony, same tone has days.
Upper Lü Bin, lower Lv Nan Lv. Upper Da Jue does not respond, lower Shao Jue responds. Thus two Jue lose harmony. On the day Ren-Wu migrates, upper and lower Jue tones respond together.
Severity seen, major epidemic in three years.
Mild reaches Yi-You; severe reaches Jia-Shen. Severe is fast, mild is slow.
Tonify Pishu (BL20).
Pishu is located one cun and half laterally from the spinous process of the 11th thoracic vertebra, artery beats. Use Yuanli needle, warm in mouth. Chant: "Wu Jing Zhi Jing, Liu Jia Xuan Ling, Di Fu Yuan Shou, Da Shi Shou Zhen." Chant three times. Visualize Yellow Qi below point, insert 0.2 cun. When Deqi occurs, advance. Get moving Qi, advance another 0.1 cun. Retain five breaths, slowly withdraw. Press point, instruct patient to hold breath three times and swallow saliva.
Three days later, puncture the Jing-Well point of the Liver Meridian.
The Jing-Well point of the Liver Meridian is Da Dun (LR1), located at the tip of the big toe, beyond the nail corner like a leek leaf and among the hair. Foot Jue Yin Jing-Well. Use Yuanli needle, warm in mouth. Chant: "Zhen Zhi Xuan Da Dao, Ming Ran Wu Shen Ge Wei, Qi (missing) San Tian." Chant, then insert 0.3 cun, retain ten breaths. When Deqi occurs, remove needle.
After acupuncture, calm Shen for seven days, avoid heavy drunkenness and singing/music. Qi will scatter. Avoid full meals and raw food. Singing/music moves Pi Shen and scatters Qi. Drunkenness confuses nature, fullness causes bloating, so be cautious. Raw food damages Pi Qi. To make Pi solid and Qi unobstructed, avoid sitting too long after eating, avoid sour foods, avoid all raw food. Prefer sweet, prefer bland.
Bland enters Stomach. Benefits Fu organs. Bland is thin taste of Earth, secondary to Sweet. Avoid idle sitting and long lying, thus nourishing Pi.
If lower Earth Jia-Zi Ding-You loses position, fails to get Central Si, Qi is not in proper position. Ding does not combine with Ren, also called Loss of Position, not called Harmony of Virtue, so Rou does not attach to Gang.
Heaven and Earth Jia-Zi do not attract, so Yin and Yang are disordered, Central Movement loses yearly harmony routine.
Earth Movement does not combine, Li transforms in three years.
Hence named Mu Li (Wood Pestilence), also Feng Li (Wind Pestilence). Its arrival calculates severity.
All Ding-Ren upper-lower losses of position use the same acupuncture method.
Suppose in the Wu-Shen year, Gang and Rou lose positions.
Wu combines with Gui. Heaven and Earth Jia-Zi, Wu-Shen combines with Gui-Hai. Lower position Gui-Hai reaches Earth, governing Earth proper Si. Upper and lower positions Wu-Shen pass Ding-Wei days, not retreating, re-manifesting Heaven, thus loss of position. Wu-Gui do not combine.
Wu-Gui although Fire Movement, Yang year is not excessive.
Wu-Wei proper Si, Gui governs alone below, thus not excessive, but suffers Water overcoming.
Upper loses Gang-Rou, governs Qi alone, improper, thus Evil attacks. Water Movement lost on upper, Middle and Lower Movements deficient. Heaven deficient, Earth still governs, Middle sees Fire Movement, Water attacks, hence called Evil Attack.
Shifting positions, differences have depth.
Heavenly Day excess has amounts. Yet obtain combination, combination lies in counting.
About to arrive and combine, pitch pipes first match.
Central Fire Movement, Zhi tone. Upper and lower Lü-Lv, upper reaches Tai-Shao two Zhi, tones match.
Thus Heavenly Movement loses time, Fire Epidemic arrives within three years. Fast arrival at Geng-Xu, slow arrival at Xin-Hai.
Tonify Feishu (BL13).
Feishu is located one cun and half laterally from the spinous process of the 3rd thoracic vertebra, artery beats. Use Yuanli needle, warm in mouth. Press point and chant: "Zhen Xie Yong Bo, Qi Guan Yuan Shen, Di Fu Fan Ben Wei, He Qi Qin." Chant three times. Insert 0.2 cun, wait for Qi, visualize White Qi below point. Advance 0.1 cun, when Deqi occurs, slowly withdraw. Press point. Instant cure possible.
After acupuncture, calm Shen for seven days, avoid great sorrow. Sorrow moves Lung and scatters True Qi.
Joy, anger, sorrow, happiness, fear should not be excessive. These five can move Heaven and confuse True Shen. Thus Sages forget sources, extinguish movements, preserve Shen. Shen governs Form; Shen in Form complete, body safe, Dao eternal.
