Ash from the stove (two shi)
Pile up the ash, and quickly bury the drowned person in the ash pile, covering from head to toe. When water flows out from the seven orifices, the person will revive.
Palpitations due to fright (Jingji) and palpitations with a sense of emptiness (Songji) are two different syndromes. Jingji arises from sudden great fright, hearing phantom sounds, seeing strange sights, climbing heights and traversing dangers, or dreaming of inauspicious omens. This startles and disturbs the heart spirit and胆 (gallbladder), causing qi and phlegm-fluid to stagnate, leading to Jingji. It is named "Heart Fright and Gallbladder Cold," located in the Heart and Gallbladder meridians, belonging to the "Neither Internal nor External Cause" (accidental factors), and its pulse must be restless (Dong). Songji arises from anxiety over wealth and status, sorrow over poverty and lowly position, prolonged longing for loved ones, sudden loss of what is valued, or unexpected events. This causes qi stagnation and phlegm-fluid accumulation, leading to Songji. It is located in the Heart and Spleen meridians, governed by mental intent, and belongs to the "Internal Cause" (emotional injury). Alternatively, exposure to cold, heat, or dampness can block various meridians, causing one to feel lost and fearful as if being chased. This is Songji in the Zhongwan region, caused by external pathogens, not by heart disease. Moreover, the retention of five types of fluid-dampness blocking the Zhongwan region most easily causes Songji; treatment falls under the category of "Fluid-Dampness Disorders." Apart from the treatments for Fluid-Dampness Palpitations and those caused by internal/external factors which are detailed in their respective sections, the formulas for treating Jingji are listed below.
Treats deficiency and timidity of the Heart and Gallbladder, where one is easily frightened by events, dreams of inauspicious omens, or is confused by strange sights, leading to a startled heart and cowed gallbladder. Qi stagnates generating phlegm-fluid, which clashes with qi, transforming into various syndromes: shortness of breath, palpitations, and fatigue; recurrent spontaneous sweating; edema of the four limbs; loss of taste in food; heart deficiency with vexation and oppression; restlessness in sitting and lying. Pinellia Rhizoma (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, Banxia) (washed seven times with decoction), Bamboo Shavings (Zhuru), Immature Bitter Orange (Zhi Shi) (bran-fried, bran removed, each 2 liang), Tangerine Peel (Chenpi) (3 liang, white pith removed), Licorice Root (Gancao) (roasted, 1 liang), Poria (Fuling) (1.5 liang).
Grind these into a coarse powder. For each dose, take 4 qian, add 1.5 zhan of water, 5 slices of fresh ginger, and 1 jujube. Decoct until 0.7 portion remains, strain, and take before meals.
Zhenxin Dan (Calming the Heart Pill) Greatly treats severe palpitations. (Formula see section on Mania)
Xiao Dingzhi Wan (Minor Stabilizing Will Pill) Treats heart fright and gallbladder timidity. (Formula see section on Forgetfulness)
Treats major illness caused by fright disrupting heart qi circulation, leading to stagnation and phlegm-fluid generation, which condenses into fluid-retention, resulting in severe palpitations that one cannot control. Children who have experienced fright should especially take this, but it is contraindicated for those with interior cold.
Calcitum (Hanshuishi) [dose missing in original], Talcum (Huashi) (water-ground, each 1 liang), Raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gancao) (1 fen).
Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose. If heat syndrome, take with newly drawn cool water; if cold/timidity syndrome, take with decocted ginger-jujube soup. Adding a small amount of Borneol (Longnao) is particularly effective. Dosage for children should be adjusted according to age.
