If sweating is excessive, add Mahuanggen Ephedrae Herba (Note: Mahuang induces sweating, while its root stops sweating; the root should be used), 5 fen. If there is phlegm, add Zhuli Bamboo Sap one spoonful and Jiangzh Ginger Juice half a spoonful. If stool is unsmooth, add Rongcongson Cistanche Herba, 2 qian.
The symptom presents as panting that resembles asthma but is not true asthma, with discontinuous breathing. The condition may involve complications of phlegm or heat, or it may present with headache, fever, and aversion to cold, resembling an exterior syndrome. Do not treat it as an exterior syndrome; instead, use Shenghua Yiqi Tang (Invigorating Blood and Boosting Qi Decoction) as the primary formula.

Panting (asthma-like breathing) is the first critical syndrome in postpartum conditions. This is because the Lung receives nourishment from the Spleen; at this time, blood is lost and qi escapes, so the Lung cannot move qi, leading to rapid breathing and panting. If not treated promptly, death often ensues.
If qi and blood are not yet completely exhausted and the pain from blood stasis masses has not been resolved, use tonifying agents more slowly. First, administer Shenghua Tang (Invigorating Blood Decoction) for one or two doses to eliminate the masses and relieve pain, then add Renshen Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma. If severe panting results from uterine bleeding, with extreme depletion of complexion and form, the condition is critically dangerous. There is no need to discuss blood stasis masses in this case; one must apply flexible treatment by adding Renshen Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (4 qian) to Shenghua Tang (Invigorating Blood Decoction) to rescue the critical situation. Two doses must be administered continuously within one or two *shichen* (two to four hours). Once the condition stabilizes slightly, switch to Shenghua Yiqi Tang (Invigorating Blood and Boosting Qi Decoction), removing Ganjiang Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum (charred black) and Mahuanggen Ephedrae Herba. Occasionally, patients may survive.
