Generally, for diseases in the head, face, and upper extremities, use wine-stir-fried herbs; for diseases below the throat and above the navel (middle jiao), use wine-soaked and sun-dried herbs; for diseases from the navel down to the feet, mostly use raw herbs. This reflects the principle that processed herbs ascend and raw herbs descend.
When processing medicines, one must not be overly meticulous; excessive processing may反而 lose medicinal power.
When stir-frying herbs, divide into large, medium, and small categories, and stir-fry three times to avoid uneven cooking.
In the seventh, eighth, and ninth months, prepare sliced herbs for winter during clear weather. In winter, cold temperatures and frozen water cause loss of medicinal power during processing.
Selected and collected by Zhang Jie from Qingquan, Linyi, on an auspicious day in the second month of spring, 13th year of Wanli reign.
