Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
When one desires to vomit after eating, it belongs to Yangming disease. This decoction is the primary treatment. Spleen and stomach deficiency-cold result in the inability to receive food. Ginseng and Jujube are used to replenish their insufficiency, while Zingiber and Evodia are used to warm the cold within the middle jiao; a rapid effect is expected. If the condition worsens after taking this decoction, the pathology lies in the upper jiao. Fire pathogen rebelling upwards prevents food intake; Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) or Huangqin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction) may be selected for use.
Haren (Cannabis Semen), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum).
The Fuyang pulse is floating, indicating strong Stomach Qi; if choppy, it indicates frequent urination. The interplay of floating and choppy pulses leads to difficult defecation. This is known as Pi Yue (Spleen Restraint Syndrome). This pill is the primary treatment. The Fuyang pulse reflects the state of the Spleen and Stomach. Floating is Yang, indicating strong Stomach Qi; choppy is Yin, indicating the Spleen is restrained. "Yue" means restraint. The Classics state: When fluids enter the Stomach, their essence and qi float freely and are transported upward to the Spleen; the Spleen scatters the essence upward to the Lung; the Lung regulates the water passages and transports them downward to the Bladder; water and essence are distributed throughout the body, and the five meridians run in parallel. Thus, the Spleen is responsible for transporting fluid substances for the Stomach. Now, with strong Stomach Qi and weak Spleen Qi, the fluid substances are restrained and cannot distribute widely, but are only transported to the Bladder, causing frequent urination. Fluids accumulate solely in the Zhou Du (Bladder), causing the Large Intestine to become increasingly dry and depleted, resulting in constipation. Mahuang Wan (Cannabis Seed Pill) is administered to unblock the deep obstructions and moisten dryness.
Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex).
Yangming disease presenting with fever and jaundice is treated by this decoction. Jaundice originates from damp-heat. The best way to clear damp-heat is not better than clearing the Bladder. Therefore, Phellodendron is used to directly enter the Shaoyin channel to reach the root of the Bladder; Gardenia is used to guide Metal and Water energies downward to assist; Glycyrrhiza enters the Middle Palace (Spleen and Stomach) to harmonize ascending and descending movements, distinguishing clear from turbid, thereby striking directly at the nest of the jaundice syndrome.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Lianyao (Scrophulariae Radix), Chixiaodou (Vigna Semen Rubrum), Zibai pi (Catalpae Cortex), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Stagnant heat residing in the interior inevitably causes jaundice. According to the Neijing: When damp-earth is excessive accompanied by heat, treat with bitter-warm methods, assisted by sweet-pungent agents, aiming for sweating as the resolution. This precisely describes the principle of this formula. Furthermore, using rainwater (Liaoshui) for decoction is intended to utilize its thin taste, avoiding the assistance of dampness.
