When parasites reside in a child's abdomen, the child may exhibit cravings for sweets and a preference for eating non-food items such as soil, tea leaves, or charcoal. Ancient methods primarily advocate using *Binglang Wan* (Areca Seed Pill) to attack and expel them (e.g., Xiao Binglang [Small Areca Seed] 1 liang, Nan Muxiang [Southern Costus Root] 5 qian, Heshizi [Chrysanthemum Carrot Seed] 5 qian, Guang Guanzhong [Polygonatum Rhizome] 5 qian, Guang Xihui [Tin Ash] 5 qian, Chen Qizha [Old Lac Residue] 2 qian, burnt to ash, Zheng Qingfen [Calomel] 2 qian, Bai Leiwang [Albizia Seed] 2 qian, Badoushuang [Croton Seed Frost] 2 qian; grind the lac residue ash with other medicines into fine powder, use vinegar-boiled wheat paste as a binder to form pills). The pills should be the size of hemp seeds. Administer 20 pills per dose, taken at the third watch (around 1-3 AM) with a decoction of Kuanlianpi [Cortex Dictamni].
[Chen Shouzhen’s Note:] When damp-heat exists in a child's intestines, it is appropriate to use bitter-cold herbs to guide the pathogen out through the Small Intestine. The formula consists of equal parts of Kuanlianpi [Cortex Dictamni], Bei Qinpi [Cortex Fraxini], Huaijiaozi [Gleditsia Fruit], Fufen [Lead Carbonate], Huangbai [Phellodendron Bark], and Muli [Oyster Shell]. Take one pig intestine, clean it thoroughly, boil it with the herbs, and form pills. Administer according to the child's age and size.
After the parasites are expelled, use equal parts of Huanglian [Coptis Rhizome], Shenqu [Medicated Leaven], Muxiang [Aucklandiae Radix], Binglang [Areca Seed], Roudoukou [Nutmeg], Shijunzi [Quisqualis Fruit], and Maiya [Malt] to form pills, thereby regulating and tonifying the Spleen.
If parasites exit through the urethra, it is due to dampness injuring the Spleen and Stomach, flowing downward into the Small Intestine, resulting in loose stools with undigested food particles. In this case, warming and tonifying methods are contraindicated. Use a formula of Huangbai [Phellodendron Bark] 8 fen, Fuling [Poria] 1.5 qian, Zhuling [Polyporus] 1.5 qian, Huaimi [Sophora Flower Bud] 1 qian, Zexie [Alisma Rhizome] 1.5 qian, and Chuan Bixie [Dioscorea Hypoglauca Rhizome] 8 fen.
The anterior yin (urethra) is primarily governed by Qi, while the posterior yin (anus) is primarily governed by Blood. The fluids of the Bladder are transformed from Blood and require the movement of Qi to be excreted. The transportation function of the Taiyin (Spleen) relies on the movement of Qi and requires the moistening of Blood to function smoothly. This smooth flow of urination and defecation is based on the attachment and interaction of Qi and Blood. If Blood fails to transform and Qi fails to move, both urine and stool will become constipated. Ancient methods primarily advocate using *Bazheng San* (Eight-Herb Corrective Powder) (e.g., Huai Mutong [Akebia Stem], Bai Huashi [Talcum], Hei Zhizi [Gardenia Fruit], Cheqianzi [Plantago Seed], Jumaifeng [Barley Ear], Jin Zhuanghuang [Rhubarb], Sheng Tiaoqin [Scutellaria Root]. Decoct the seven ingredients until very soft, add Mangxiao [Mirabilite] and take with the liquid).
[Chen Shouzhen’s Note:] For children suffering from constipation of both urine and stool, first employ an external guiding method: mix half a zhan of sesame oil with 1 qian of Mangxiao [Mirabilite] and a small amount of Zaorao [Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit] powder. Load this mixture into a glass tube, insert it into the anus, and slowly inject the mixed oil. After a short while, bowel movements will become unobstructed. Internally, administer Xuanmingfen [Refined Mirabilite] 1.5 qian, Huashifen [Talcum Powder] 2 qian, and raw white honey 0.5 liang, dissolved in boiling water. This will ensure the free passage of both urine and stool.
