Mr. Yuzhen said: The Great Dao of Wuji Zhonghuang was originally transmitted orally and mentally, without establishing written texts. Out of compassion for beginners who hear it once but cannot remember, I have now set up this skillful means to let them listen with their ears, focus their minds, observe with their eyes, and grasp with their spirits. After the transmission is complete, burn it immediately; do not let it circulate freely. The Inner Principle states: Heaven has Nine Palaces, Earth has Nine Provinces, and humans have Nine Orifices. In Heaven, Zhonghuang serves as the Solar Yang; in Earth, Zhonghuang serves as the Lunar Yin; in humans, Zhonghuang serves as Danjiong (the gate of the Dantian). All are called Zhonghuang. "Baji" refers to its position, and "Huang" refers to its color, hence the name Zhonghuang. Baji is the central gathering point of the eight directions, which is also the Central Palace, i.e., Huangting (the central cavity of the body), Xuanpin (the mysterious female, referring to the origin of life), Primordial Qi of Pre-Heaven, Xuanqiao One Aperture, the Place of Supreme Good, the Way of Huangji, and Yunzhi Juezhong (sincerely holding the Mean). In the Five Elements, it is called Earth; in the Five Zang Organs, it is called Spleen; in the Five Constants, it is called Trustworthiness. Medicinal substances, Three Qi, Five Spirits, Fire Timing, and respiration are all contained herein. Whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, one should maintain focused intention, never departing for a moment. One does not abandon worldly affairs but maintains a upright mind when dealing with things. Always responding yet always still. As my Patriarch said, "Speaking too much leads to exhaustion; it is better to guard the Center." It is also said, "Thirty spokes share one hub." The spokes refer to the costal arches, and the hub refers to Zhongjiong. It is also said, "Between Heaven and Earth, is it not like a bellows?" This refers to respiration. Exhaling causes Kidney Qi to rise and stop upon encountering Earth. Inhaling causes Heart Fluid to descend and rest upon encountering Earth. This is called the refining of Water and Fire to form the Great Elixir. If one can preserve and guard this, the methods will be effective. I often say that if one wishes the Dao methods to be efficacious, one must guard Zhongjiong. "Center" means aligning with the upper, lower, and four corners, neither biased nor leaning. Heaven and Earth are eighty-four thousand li apart. The human Heart and Kidneys represent the Heaven and Earth of the body, separated by eight cun four fen, measured by the creases of the middle finger joint, from above the umbilicus to the tip of the coccyx, measuring eight cun four fen. The term "umbilicus" here refers to the position opposite the Kidney. Thus, three cun six fen below the Heart, and three cun six fen above the Kidney at the umbilicus, only the middle one cun two fen constitutes the Huangting, which governs our life. This is the Supreme Sage's Dao, kept secret, kept secret.
The True Lord of Sanmao said: Essence nourishes Qi, and Qi converges into Shen (Spirit). When Spirit and Essence do not scatter, this is called cultivating the True. The child does not leave the mother, and the mother does not leave the child. Guarding the mother-child relationship ensures longevity and immortality. Mr. Dongzhen said: Guard carefully, guard carefully; speak not, speak not; natural, natural; profound and more profound. Those who hear the Dao are fortunate across a thousand lifetimes, having predestined affinities with immortality. If they leak secrets through laughter and talk, they invite unforeseen disasters and spreading calamities. After receiving the transmission, practice diligently.
True Person of Yuxi said: The Confucians Yao, Shun, Yu, Tang, Wen, Wu, the Duke of Zhou, Confucius, Yan Hui, Zeng Shen, Zisi, and Mencius passed down the lineage of the Dao through generations; this is precisely this Dao. Sheng (the author) admired purity and emptiness in his youth and devoted himself to the Supreme Dao. He visited ten thousand methods and a thousand schools, seeking teachers everywhere. While traveling Mount Heng, he finally met a Perfected Man and secretly received the Alchemical Secrets from Immortal Master Ziyang. Following the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams, exchanging years for months, months for days, and days for hours, he gathered the righteous Qi of Heaven and Earth and seized the miraculous achievements of creation. He stored them in the Central Palace, where interaction generates the Elixir. This not only extends life but allows one to remain in the world, saying, "My fate lies within me, not determined by Heaven." After attaining this, Sheng's physical strength did not decline, his hair and beard did not turn white, he could walk a hundred li a day, and his movements were light. His divine manifestations cannot be fully described. Among these, the mutual completion of Water and Fire is also the method of Kan-Li intersection. Practicing this for a long time can lead to the formation of the Elixir. Nowadays, people's Fire is dry and flares upward, while Water is moist and sinks downward, inadvertently attracting Yin-Evil Qi to enter opportunistically, causing many illnesses. Longevity or shortness of life depends on whether one encounters this secret. The Art of Reversing the Five Elements: Dragons emerge from Fire. If the Five Elements do not proceed normally, Tigers are born from Water. Proceeding normally makes one mortal; reversing makes one sage. Profound and more profound, all detailed below. The Secret says: Lift once it rises, Qi returns to the Umbilicus; Swallow once it descends, Water and Fire meet. These sixteen characters are simple and easy to practice, without restriction on time. Whether in government office, attending to political affairs; or in wealth and honor, practicing without hindrance. This is what is meant by the Supreme Dao being uncomplex. For wind diseases, the effect is very rapid. During leisure time in the day, whether sitting cross-legged, hanging feet, or sitting upright, there are no restrictions. Use the inhalation and exhalation through the nose as the indicator. Inhalation is called inhaling; immediately raise the Qi, using slight force from the lower part to lift it beforehand, so that all Qi returns to the umbilical area. This is called "Qi returning to the Umbilicus." The umbilicus is the Sea of Qi in humans, where primordial Qi gathers and hides. Exhalation is called exhaling; immediately relax the body freely, swallowing with a sound, which is called "Water and Fire meeting." Practice thus without counting repetitions. Practice when you wish, stop when you can. If maintained for a long time, the area below the umbilicus feels warm as if ironed, gas sounds in the abdomen like thunder, urination gradually decreases, essence and Qi are not leaked, the waist and spine become strong, food intake doubles, hundred diseases leave the body, and external evils do not invade. After one year of practice, chronic diseases are eliminated. With prolonged practice, the Three Palaces naturally ascend and descend, the Two Qi circulate, eventually forming the Great Dao, achieving longevity and clear vision. In past years, Mr. Wang Guohai in the capital taught the method of ascending and descending with nasal breath but lacked the lifting and drawing method. Later, Daoist Li from Enzhou taught Yang Heyu only the lifting and drawing method but lacked the breath method. Both used incomplete methods. Sheng, while visiting under Purple Qi Peak at Southern Mount Heng, personally received the secret from Mr. Li. Mr. Li was from Shandong, aged 105, with white-free hair and beard, face like a child's, walking swiftly. Having received his transmission, I found it effective after practice. Dare not keep it secret, I谨谨 transmit it to those who love the Dao.
