风湿肿痛,胜湿表以麻杏四般;

中湿术附甘附,诸湿便溺皆调;

水乘表而发咳,青龙小剂;
气而润肾;咳逆而喘,肺气逆也,宜芍药、五味之酸以收肺气。经曰∶肾苦燥,急食辛以润之;
茵陈大黄调五苓,头汗出而欲疸;
甘草二钱半,水煎服。治湿家发黄,及伤寒发黄。但大便不利者,茵陈汤;二便不利者,茵陈汤调五苓散;
虚烦竹叶石膏,既济三白称奇;
三阴,所患必冷,脉迟涩者加附子。起于湿者,则行起忽倒,足胫或肿,膝或枯细,加木瓜、槟榔、牛膝;
导痰医痰,陶氏加以芩连参术梗栝蒌;
瘀血在上,犀角地黄(汤)加减;
风温(Fengwen, Wind-Warmth)导致出汗和口渴,用葳蕤汤配合栝蒌根汤;
风湿(Fengshi, Wind-Dampness)导致肿痛,用胜湿汤和麻杏薏甘汤来祛风解表;
寒湿(Hanshi, Cold-Dampness)导致肿痛,用渗湿汤和交加五积散来解表;
中湿(Zhongshi, Dampness Invasion)用术附汤和甘附汤,各种湿邪导致的小便异常都调理;
湿痹(Shibi, Damp-Bi Syndrome)用防己黄芪汤和汉防己汤,各种湿邪导致汗孔闭塞都调理;
附子防风汤和附术散,治疗柔痉(Roujing, Soft Spasm)且四肢厥冷的适宜;
桂枝石膏汤和桂枝黄芩汤,治疗疟疾(Nueji, Malaria)热重且重的迅速治愈;
导痰汤医痰,陶氏导痰汤加以黄芩、黄连、人参、白术、桔梗、栝蒌仁;
Ban Tang. Baihu Jia Cangzhu Tang (White Tiger Plus Atractylodes Decoction): Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 4 qian, Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) 3 qian, Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 2 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 5 fen, Jingmi (Oryzae Semen) a large pinch, decocted in water and taken warm. If spontaneous sweating persists, adding Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) is particularly effective. It treats Shiwen (Damp-Heat), characterized by stillness, summerheat injury with dampness, aversion to cold, deep pulse, sweating followed by fever, and delirium. It also treats epidemic pestilence and heat contracted in autumn.
For sudden cold or sudden warmth, use Tiaozhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) or remove Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma).
Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Bencao (Ligustici Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fuling (Poria), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 5 fen, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats summer-autumn sudden cold contracted amidst intense heat, where heat knots in the four limbs, causing high fever, headache, and abdominal disharmony. For sudden warmth causing muscle heat, irritability, and thirst, add Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix). For sudden cold injuring the stomach, with excess pathogenic factors in both exterior and interior, or constipation, or dysentery with bloody water, rapid pulse, or chronic intestinal toxin with continuous bleeding, all should be treated with Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 7 qian to purge; administer again after some time, and high fever will cease upon defecation.
Fengwen (Wind-Warmth) with sweating and thirst: Use Weiyu Tang (Jade Bamboo Decoction) combined with Gualou Gen Tang (Trichosanthes Root Decoction).
Weiyu Tang: Weiyu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma) 2.5 qian, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 3 qian, Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) 2 qian, Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Baiwei (Cynanchi Atrati Radix), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Qingmuxiang (Aquilariae Lignum), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 1 qian, Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) 1.2 qian, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats Fengwen (Wind-Warmth) causing wheezing urgency, headache, fever, excessive sleepiness, slurred speech, spontaneous sweating, flaccidity of the four limbs, and in severe cases, seizures resembling epilepsy, with internal irritability. Dongwen (Winter-Warmth) and Chunwen (Spring-Warmth) are also suitable. If fever persists after sweating, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), and Chishao (Moutan Cortex); if sweating is profuse, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and add Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); if Qi is weak, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma); if there is phlegm and blurred vision, add Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum); if thirst is severe, add Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix); if Liver Fire is abundant, add Longdancao (Gentianae Radix). Gualou Gen Tang (Trichosanthes Root Decoction): Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 3 qian, Gualou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix) and Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) each 2 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) each 1 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 5 fen, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats severe thirst and fever with sweating due to Fengwen (Wind-Warmth).
Shiwen (Damp-Heat) with profuse sweating: Use Fuling (Poria) combined with Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma).
Fuling Baizhu Tang (Poria and Atractylodes Decoction): Fuling (Poria) and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) each 1 qian, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 0.7 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 5 fen, decocted in water and taken warm. The rationale is that Shiwen (Damp-Heat) with chills and fever, headache and eye pain, chest fullness and delirium, profuse sweating, and cold legs results from bathing in cold water during summer, sitting on stones, or sleeping on the ground, leading to dampness injury compounded by summerheat. Thus, the herbs treat dampness, not summerheat. Therefore, some masters hesitate to use it. Hence, using Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) plus Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) and Guigui (Cinnamomi Cortex) clarifies the intent more. However, both formulas are difficult to use; for mild cases, use Erxiang Tang (Two Fragrances Decoction) to remove summerheat, or Chushi Tang (Remove Dampness Decoction) to remove dampness.
Fengshi (Wind-Dampness) causing swelling and pain: Use Qianghuo Shengshi Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Dampness) and Maxing Yigan Tang (Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Licorice, and Coix Decoction) to dispel wind and release the exterior.
Qianghuo Shengshi Tang: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) each 1 qian, Bencao (Ligustici Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 5 fen, Manjingzi (Viticis Semen), and Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each 2 fen, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats back pain and neck stiffness, waist feeling like breaking, neck feeling like pulling, indicating obstruction of Foot Taiyang channel Qi; shoulder and back pain preventing turning the head, indicating stagnation of Hand Taiyang channel Qi. If the body feels heavy and the waist feels sinking, it indicates damp-heat in the channels; add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma). Maxing Yigan Tang: Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) each 2 qian, Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 1 qian, decocted in water to induce slight sweating. It treats soreness and pain of the limbs, inability to turn over, slight sweat on the forehead, desire not to remove clothes, or slight body swelling, difficulty in defecation, free urination, worsening heat at dusk, and floating, deficient, and choppy pulse. In severe cases, add Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) as a guide; if sweating, add Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); for mild cases, use only Jiawei Qianghuo Tang (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction); suitable for all dampness with exterior signs. Xingren Tang: Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 2 qian, Tiandong (Asparagi Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), and Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) each 1 qian, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 5 slices, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats Fengshi (Wind-Dampness) body pain, aversion to wind, and slight swelling.
Hanshi (Cold-Dampness) causing swelling and pain: Use Shen Shi Tang (Percolate Dampness Decoction) and Jiaojia Wuji San (Five Accumulations Intersecting Powder) to release the exterior.
Wuji Jiajiao San is Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) combined with Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Decoction to Defeat Toxins). It treats Hanshi (Cold-Dampness) causing heavy body pain and soreness in the lower back and legs. If cold predominates, use raw Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder); in severe cases, add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata); in summer, remove Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) and add Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma); if weather is hot, or after Spring Equinox even without sweating, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and replace with Zisuye (Perillae Folium); if abdominal distension and discomfort or constipation occur, add Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus); if tidal fever or muscle heat occurs, add Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Gange (Puerariae Radix).
Zhongshi (Dampness Invasion) uses Shufu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction) and Ganfu Tang (Licorice and Aconite Decoction); various dampness conditions affecting urination are regulated.
If urination is free, for mild cases use Chushi Tang (Remove Dampness Decoction); for severe cases, use Shufu Tang: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 3 qian, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) 2 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 3 slices, Zao (Jujubae Fructus) 2 pieces, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats Zhongshi (Dampness Invasion) causing whole-body pain, fever, yellow skin, irritability, and floating, slow pulse. If urination is obstructed but defecation is loose, for mild cases use Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder); for severe cases, use Gancao Fuzi Tang (Licorice and Aconite Decoction): Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each 2 qian, Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 4 qian, decocted in water and taken warm; relief comes with slight sweating. The rationale is that Wind-Dampness combats, causing joint pain and spasms, inability to flex or extend, and severe pain upon touch; or wind excess leads to Wei-Qi deficiency with sweating, shortness of breath, and aversion to cold; dampness excess leads to obstructed urination or slight swelling. Thus, Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) use acrid-sweet properties to disperse wind and secure Wei-Qi, while Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) use acrid-sweet properties to resolve dampness and benefit meridians. If sweating follows with body swelling, add Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); if palpitations and obstructed urination occur, add Fuling (Poria).
Shibi (Damp-Bi Syndrome) uses Fangji Huangqi Tang (Stephania and Astragalus Decoction) and Han Fangji Tang (Han Stephania Decoction); various dampness conditions blocking pores are regulated.
Fangji Huangqi Tang: Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix) each 2 qian, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 0.7 qian, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Zao (Jujubae Fructus) decocted. It treats various winds and dampness, floating pulse, heavy body, spontaneous sweating, and continuous sweating after erroneous sweating. If chest and diaphragm are uncomfortable, add Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix); if Qi rushes upward, add Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig); if cold exists, add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma); if wind migrates, add Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Yiyiren (Coicis Semen), and Wutou (Aconiti Radix); if heat causes redness and swelling, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix); if cold causes spasmodic pain, add Guigui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata); if dampness causes heaviness, add Fuling (Poria), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma); if middle Qi is firm and full, with urinary retention, add Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zisu (Perillae Folium), and Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus); in severe cases, add Tingli (Semen Lepidii seu Descurainiae). Han Fangji Tang: Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) 2.5 qian, Huangqi (Astragali Radix) 1.5 qian, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 2 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) decocted. This is Fangji Huangqi Tang (Stephania and Astragalus Decoction), but used in equal parts for profuse sweating.
Fuzi Fangfeng Tang (Aconite and Saposhnikovia Decoction) and Fushu San (Aconite and Atractylodes Powder) are suitable for Roujing (Soft Spasm) with cold extremities.
Fuzi Fangfeng Tang: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 0.7 qian, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) 9 grains, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 3 slices, decocted. It treats Shanghan (Cold Damage) Roujing (Soft Spasm), eyes closed, face turned inward, cold extremities, tendon spasm, and continuous sweating. If no sweating, remove Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), use only 0.3 qian of Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), and add Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) 0.5 qian. Fushu San: Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each 1 qian, Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) 0.5 qian, Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 0.3 qian, Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) 0.2 qian, Zao (Jujubae Fructus) 2 pieces, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats Shanghan (Cold Damage) Roujing (Soft Spasm), cold extremities, tendon spasm, continuous sweating, intermittent onset. Anorexia with diarrhea is difficult to treat. For mild cases, Jiawei Qianghuo Tang (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction) modified is commonly used for both Gangjing (Stiff Spasm) and Roujing (Soft Spasm).
Guizhi Shigao Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Gypsum Decoction) and Guizhi Huangqin Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Scutellaria Decoction) quickly treat Nueji (Malaria) with intense heat.
Guizhi Shigao Tang: Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 1 qian, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) each 3 qian, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 2 qian, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats concurrent Taiyang and Yangming diseases, every-other-day malaria, with more heat than cold. Guizhi Huangqin Tang: Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) each 0.8 fen, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 1 qian, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 2 qian, Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 0.5 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 0.4 qian, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) decocted and taken warm. It treats concurrent Taiyang, Yangming, and Shaoyang diseases, with extreme chills and fever in malaria. These two formulas use Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) ingredients for Taiyang, Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) for Yangming, and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) for Shaoyang, with clear intent. If accompanied by phlegm, combine with Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction); for food stagnation, combine with Pingwei San (Peaceful Stomach Powder); for scanty urination, combine with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder); for constipation, combine with Da Chaihu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction); if no sweating, add Gange (Puerariae Radix) and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma); if sweating, add Huangqi (Astragali Radix) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); if occurring at night, add Taoren (Persicae Semen) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix); if chronic, add Changshan (Dichroae Radix) and Binglang (Arecae Semen) to induce vomiting. The methods for treating malaria are complete here.
Water invading the exterior causing cough: Use Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) in small doses.
Xiao Qinglong Tang: Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) each 2 qian, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 1.5 qian, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 5 fen, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats Shanghan (Cold Damage) with unresolved exterior, fluid retention in the epigastrium combing with cold, causing rebellious Qi, dry heaving, fever, and cough, or wheezing, choking, thirst, free stool, obstructed urination, hypochondriac pain, and abdominal fullness. Generally, cold pathogen in the exterior should be dispersed with acrid-sweet Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); fluid retention in the epigastrium dries the Kidney, so Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), and Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) use acridity to move fluids and moisten the Kidney; rebellious cough and wheezing indicate Lung Qi rebellion, so Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) use sourness to astringe Lung Qi. The Classic states: The Kidney dislikes dryness, urgently eat acrid to moisten it; the Lung desires acrid, urgently eat sour to astringe it. This formula induces sweating to disperse pathogenic water, and astringes to secure true water. Internal infiltration of water qi leads to varied transformations, hence "or" symptoms; modify according to syndrome. For slight diarrhea, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and add Yuanhua (Kadsurae Flower Bud) to drain water; for thirst, remove Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and add Gualou Ren (Trichosanthis Semen) to generate fluids; for choking, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) to warm and disperse cold water; for obstructed urination and lower abdominal fullness, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and add Fuling (Poria) to promote lower jiao water accumulation; for wheezing, remove Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and add Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) to direct Qi downward. Thirst after taking this indicates warming of interior Qi and dispersal of water; take again. Some doubt why Xiao Qinglong Tang and Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), both presenting with vomiting and fever, have different cold/heat natures? When Shanghan (Cold Damage) heat is not yet intense and water stops, non-Qinglong Tang ginger-cinnamon cannot disperse; when Shanghan (Cold Damage) pathogenic heat transmits to half-exterior/half-interior, non-Xiao Chaihu Tang bupleurum-scutellaria cannot clear. These two formulas have similar syndromes/treatments but different medications.
Water entering Yin causing diarrhea: Use Zhenwu Tang (True Warrior Decoction), a divine formula.
Zhenwu Tang: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 1 qian, Baifuling (Poria), Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) each 3 qian, Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 5 slices, decocted in water and taken warm. It treats Shanghan (Cold Damage) after 4-5 days, abdominal pain, obstructed urination, free stool, heavy painful limbs, fever, free urination, vomiting, or cough; also treats persistent fever after sweating, palpitations, vertigo, Yin syndrome body pain with deep pulse, and muscle twitching after excessive sweating. This results from drinking water after thirst, staying in the middle jiao. The rationale is that Kidney governs water; Kidney disease fails to control water, so Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) use acrid-sour to warm Kidney and disperse dampness; Fuling (Poria) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) use sweet-pungent to benefit Spleen and expel water. The Classic states: Excess cold is treated with acrid-hot; excess dampness is assisted with sour-pungent. If urination is free, remove Fuling (Poria); if stool is free, remove Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) and add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) to disperse cold; for cough, add Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) to disperse rebellious Qi; for water-cold combing causing cough, add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) to disperse; for vomiting, remove Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) fearing Qi tonification, double Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) to disperse rebellious Qi.
Yinchen Dahuang Tang (Coptis and Rhubarb Decoction) combined with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder): Head sweating and impending jaundice.
Yinchen Tang: Yinchenhao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) 1 liang, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 5 qian, Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) 10 pieces, 2 cups of water, simmer slowly to 1 cup, take warm, stop when purged. Severe cases take again, expecting discharge of rotting fish pus/blood/foul matter, urine like golden soap juice. Or seeing heat signs, only head sweating, impending jaundice, use one dose divided into four, mixed with 3 qian of Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder). No method surpasses this for treating jaundice. The rationale is extreme Yangming interior heat, irritability/thirst/drinking, damp-heat combing. If whole-body sweating occurs, damp-heat vents outward and jaundice does not form. Now only head sweats, stopping at the neck, obstructed bowel/bladder, unceasing thirst, implying stagnant heat郁 inside, abdominal fullness, and jaundice are certain. Thus, Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) use bitter-cold to remove Stomach dryness, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) uses bitter-cold to purge Stomach heat. Suitable for all epidemics, jaundice, malaria, miscellaneous disease yellowing, and Shanghan (Cold Damage) where fire-induced sweating failed, causing pathogenic heat郁 internally, attacking head/face redness, steaming skin yellowing. Yinchen Wuling San: Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) 1 liang, Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder) 5 qian powdered, take 2 qian with rice drink or decocted. Treatment same as above. If heat combats blood accumulating in Lower Jiao, causing lower abdominal urgency/clumping, black stool, obstructed urination, deep-forceful pulse, for all blood stasis chest binding delirium/rinsing water, use this to purge black matter for healing. If exterior signs unresolved, first resolve exterior, then attack interior. The Classic states: From exterior to interior becoming excess internally, first regulate exterior, then regulate interior. Thus, Taoren (Persicae Semen) sweetness softens lower abdominal urgency; Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) acridity disperses Lower Jiao blood stasis; Xiaofan (Natrii Sulfas) and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) coldness reduces Bladder heat. Tao's modification adds Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus),
