用乳香二钱，或加没药、当归、赤芍，水煎服。身热不退者，小柴胡汤、竹叶石膏汤。
中风身青实可骇，
愈后忽遍身青色，或黑色，手足厥冷，口噤涎流，声如拽锯，甚则手足微搐，此因里虚被地风所吹，
名曰中风，宜消风散二钱，入蝉蜕末一钱，分三服。入生姜、薄荷汁及酒少许，温汤浸之，连进二三服。当
随时少进，或作瘾疹，或作肤疹而愈。或小续命汤去桂、附，加荆
芥亦可。
发搐咳血更难除；
愈后非时发搐，目撺面赤，饮食居处喜冷，乃心热有痰，宜导赤散、抱龙丸，或小柴胡汤加生地。又有
病后胃弱，食积发搐，潮热，大便酸臭不调，或呕吐腹疼，宜紫霜丸、小承气汤选用。症恶者死。咳嗽有触冒
风寒者，参苏饮加减；喘满者，前胡枳壳汤。若毒攻肺。喘急咳臭脓血者，死。
入眼翳膜皆忌点，
愈后目翳，但宜活血解毒，则五脏和而疼痛自止，翳膜自去，则不致凹凸损陷。不宜点者，毒瓦斯自脏达外，
点药攻逼，反以为害。但翳膜已成者，只用生鳝鱼刺血点入翳上，更服兔屎汤最妙。若无翳，但眼目无光者，过
百日后，气血复，自明。但曾过服热药，热食，风毒盛者，须内服药清解，或曾过服利药，及所禀怯弱，以致痘
愈眼昏不明，仍当量补肝肾脾胃。热眼，丹溪方∶山栀、决明、赤芍、当归、黄连、防风、连翘、升麻、桔梗，
作小剂，煎服。治痘疮伤眼。热翳，地黄散∶生地、熟地、当归各一分，防风、羌活、犀角、蝉蜕、木贼、谷
精草、白蒺藜、大黄各一钱，玄参五分，木通、甘草各一钱半（一方有黄连），为末。每五分，量儿大小，用
羊肝煮汁调服，忌口将息。治痘疮入眼，心肝壅热，目赤肿痛，或生赤脉，或白膜遮睛。四边散漫者易治，若
暴遮黑暗，多致失明，宜速用此。大人亦宜。风肿翳膜者，蝉壳散∶蝉蜕、地骨皮、牡丹皮、黄连，白术、菊
花、苍术各一两，龙胆草五钱，甜瓜子半盏，为末。每一钱半，荆芥煎汤调下。食后、临卧各一服。兼治时疾
后余毒上攻眼目，甚效。忌油、面、煎炒、醋、酱等物。热极生风，上攻眼痛，红丝遮睛，便秘者，洗肝散加
芩、连、芒硝下之。昏暗，加石膏、羌活、石决明、谷精草、菊花、绿豆；翳膜、加蝉蜕，倍石决明、白蒺藜。
若未靥前，痘疮入眼者，洗肝散去大黄。瘾涩多泪，生翳者，柴胡散、拨云散，或神翳散加黑豆皮。虚眼，熟地
黄丸、滋阴地黄丸、益气聪明汤。如肝肾俱虚者，羚虎丸∶羚羊角、虎胫骨、生地、酸枣仁各五钱，肉桂、
防风、当归、黄 各五分，为末蜜丸，皂子大。每一丸，温水化下。虚翳，用羊肝煮汁，入蝉蜕末二钱服之。
通用，眼痛不可忍者，浮萍散∶浮萍为末，每二钱，用羊肉半斤，以竹杖刺破，投水半盏绞汁调服。伤者亦效。
眼睛番白，气虚危证，保元汤加陈黄米救之；神昏不醒者死。食毒物眼睛凸出者，二仙散∶仙灵脾、威灵仙等分，
水煎服。久不愈者，古蝉猪散∶猪悬蹄甲二两（瓦罐内盛泥固济，烧存性），蝉蜕二两，羚羊角一分，为末。
每一字或五分，或二钱，量儿大小，温水调服。治痘疮入眼，半年已过者，一月取效。惟过一年者，难治。
外治肿突如桃者，护眼膏；如肿不开者，用黄连为末，鸡子清调，涂两太阳穴及两足心。风毒肿痛，痒涩眵泪，
昏暗羞明者，秦皮散∶滑石、黄连三味等分，水煎乘热洗。受风流泪者，用田中豆荚捣汁，滴入眼中。已成翳
膜者，塞耳丹∶水银一钱，黄丹五钱，捣匀作六丸，入砂锅内，圆瓦盖定，湿纸封固，以香炉盛炭火烧一日即
出，以薄绵裹之，痘疮在左塞左耳，在右塞右耳，立见逐下。一方用轻粉、黄丹等分为末，竹筒吹入耳内，左
眼有翳吹右耳，右眼有翳吹左耳，即退。
牙疳杀人鼻若朱。
余毒攻齿龈，腐烂生疳，杀人最速。牙龈肿痛动摇者，甘露饮，外以韭根、茶叶浓煎，洗去腐肉见血，
以溺白散敷之，日三次。如烂至喉中者，用竹管吹入，红白黄水出者，可治；鼻梁发红点如朱者，不治。其色
似干酱，一日烂一分，二日烂一寸，故名曰走马疳，宜与前五疳条参治之。
痘痈四体脾经毒，
血热引毒流传经络，故于肌肉虚处，或关节动摇处偏盛而成痈。又有愈后，余毒不攻脏腑、皮肤而为诸杂
病，乃注脉络而为痈。轻者，结核肿痛疮疖而已，甚者头顶、胸胁、手足肢
节肿而作痛。毒瓦斯流于脾经，则痈发四肢、手腕并膝膑肿痛，宜清毒饮、升麻葛根汤；虚者，十六味流气饮
加附子。外用马齿苋捣汁，入猪脂、蜂蜜熬膏，涂肿处，或用活蚬子，不拘多少，以水养五日，旋取此水洗手
面，渐生肌肉无痕。
肺经手 内穴俞；
毒瓦斯流于肺经，则 内并手腕肿，流为赤痈毒，宜消毒饮、如圣汤、五福化毒丹，或用郁金、雄黄各一钱
半，巴霜四十粒，为末，醋糊丸，绿豆大，每二三丸，量儿大小，热茶清下，以利之。如气血虚者，内托十
宣散加枳、梗、犀角；咽喉不利，或肿痛者，甘桔汤加麦门冬、牛蒡子、薄荷；口齿流涎，血臭气者，用生地
黄自然汁，化五福化毒丹一丸，以鸡翎刷入口中。如肺毒流入大肠，秘结或便脓血，见前杂证便血条下。
三阳背腮项结核，
毒瓦斯流于三阳经，则背、腮、项结核肿痛，宜小柴胡汤加生地最妙。热盛肿痛者，败毒散加荆，防；肿甚者，
消毒饮加忍冬藤；虚者，内托十宣散减肉桂。通用赤芍、连翘为君，桔梗、甘草为臣，贝母、忍冬藤、白芷、
栝蒌根为佐，上用升麻、葛根为使，下用槟榔、牛膝为使。大便闭，加大黄；发寒热，加芩、柏。不问脓已成
未成，体实者宜服。虚者通用保元汤加酒炒芩、连少许。久者，上体宜保元汤加引经药；下体宜独活寄生汤，
或内托十宣散加减。三豆饮，不拘虚热常服。
外护筋骨免偏枯。
凡痘痈不问发于何经，初起红肿时，却用黑豆、绿豆、赤豆等分，酸醋研浆，时时以鹅翎刷之，一切痈
痘疖毒，不用针刀自溃。如脓已熟者，用披针烧红刺之，内服消毒饮，在腮项，加金银花。若不早治，必致溃
烂筋骨。金华散∶黄丹、黄柏、黄连、大黄、黄 、轻粉、麝香，为末，干糁。疮干，猪油调涂。治痘后肥疮、
疳疮、癣疥，收水凉肌解毒。敛肌散∶地骨皮、黄连、五倍子、黄柏、甘草，为末，干糁。兼治疳蚀不敛，并
痘后脓血杂渗不收等疮。矾茧散∶用白矾为末，塞入蚕茧内，令满，以炭火烧，令矾汁尽，取出为末，干糁。
治痘后身上及肢节上生疳蚀 ，脓水不绝。
逃痘方是后人巧，信者纵出亦稀疏；
太古无痘疹，周末秦初乃有之。初生，用生地黄自然汁，服三蚬壳许，利下恶污，亦可稀痘。每遇冬月温
暖，恐春发痘，宜预服三豆饮∶黑豆、赤豆、绿豆各等分，甘草减半，水煮熟，任意饮之。凡天行痘疮，乡
邻盛发，宜先服七日，痘永不出。小儿阳盛，无阴以制，令头发竖直，饮食减少，此伏热之兆，便宜服油剂∶
麻油一盏，逐日饮尽，永不出痘。更服升麻葛根汤、三豆饮以预防之。消毒保婴丹∶缠豆藤（即毛豆梗上缠绕
细红藤，八月间采，阴干）一两半，黑豆三十粒，赤豆七十粒，山楂肉、牛蒡子、生地、辰砂各一两，升麻、
连翘各七钱半，荆芥、防风、独活、甘草、当归、赤芍、黄连、桔梗各五钱，经霜丝瓜长五寸者二个（烧存性）。
前药须预办精料。遇春分、秋分、上元、七夕、忌妇人、猫、犬，诚心修制为末和匀，净砂糖为丸，李核大。
每一丸，浓煎甘草汤化下。凡小儿未出痘者，每遇春分、秋分时，各服一丸，其痘毒能渐消化。若只服一二次，
亦得减少；若服三年六次，其毒尽能消化，必无虞矣。
钱刘陈魏皆堪法，得要还羡丹溪书。
钱、刘以痘本胎毒，毒解而气血自伸陈魏以痘虽内毒，毒出则虚。丹溪随表里虚实，温补解毒兼用。但见
热证，便用清肌解毒，甚则硝、黄；但见虚证，便用温中托里，甚则姜、附。噫！法无不善，用贵得宜。痘本
外科伤寒之一，兼内伤杂病、妇女胎产、小儿惊积，痘非医之统要矣乎！
使用乳香二钱，或者加入没药、当归、赤芍，用水煎煮后服用。如果身体发热不退，使用小柴胡汤或竹叶石膏汤。
中风导致全身发青且脉象坚实令人惊恐：
痊愈后突然全身变为青色或黑色，手足冰冷，牙关紧闭流涎，声音像拉锯一样，严重时手足轻微抽搐，这是因为体内虚弱被风邪侵袭，
称为中风，适宜使用消风散二钱，加入蝉蜕末一钱，分三次服用。加入生姜汁、薄荷汁及少许酒，用温水浸泡送服，连续服用二三剂。应当根据情况少量多次进服，可能会表现为瘾疹（荨麻疹），或者肤疹而痊愈。也可以使用小续命汤去掉桂枝、附子，加入荆芥同样有效。
抽搐和咳血更难消除：
痊愈后非正常时间发生抽搐，眼睛上翻面色发红，饮食起居喜欢凉爽，这是心热伴有痰湿，适宜使用导赤散、抱龙丸，或者小柴胡汤加生地黄。又有
病后胃气虚弱，因食积引发抽搐，潮热，大便酸臭不调，或者呕吐腹痛，适宜选用紫霜丸或小承气汤。症状恶劣者死亡。咳嗽有受风寒刺激者，使用参苏饮加减；气喘胸闷者，使用前胡枳壳汤。如果毒邪攻肺，出现喘急咳嗽脓血腥臭者，死亡。
眼部出现翳膜都忌用点眼药：
痊愈后眼睛出现翳膜，只适宜活血解毒，则五脏调和而疼痛自然停止，翳膜自然去除，就不会造成凹凸凹陷损伤。不宜点眼药的原因在于，毒气从脏腑达于体表，
点药强行攻逼，反而造成伤害。只有翳膜已经形成的，只用生鳝鱼刺取血点入翳膜上，再服用兔屎汤最为奇妙。如果没有翳膜，只是眼睛无光泽的，过了一百天后，气血恢复，自然明亮。但曾经过量服用热性药物、热性食物，风毒旺盛者，必须内服药物清解；或者曾经过量服用利下药，以及禀赋怯弱，导致痘疮痊愈后眼睛昏花不明，仍应当酌情补益肝肾脾胃。治疗热眼，丹溪方：山栀、决明子、赤芍、当归、黄连、防风、连翘、升麻、桔梗，制成小剂量，煎煮服用。治疗痘疮伤眼。治疗热翳，地黄散：生地黄、熟地黄、当归各一分，防风、羌活、犀角、蝉蜕、木贼、谷精草、白蒺藜、大黄各一钱，玄参五分，木通、甘草各一钱半（一方有黄连），研为细末。每次五分，根据儿童大小，用羊肝煮汁调服，注意忌口调养。治疗痘疮入眼，心肝壅滞热盛，眼睛红肿疼痛，或者生出红丝，或者白膜遮蔽瞳孔。四边散漫者容易治疗，如果突然遮蔽黑暗，多导致失明，宜速用此方。成人也适宜。治疗风肿翳膜，蝉壳散：蝉蜕、地骨皮、牡丹皮、黄连，白术、菊花、苍术各一两，龙胆草五钱，甜瓜子半盏，研为细末。每次一钱半，用荆芥煎汤调下。饭后、临睡前各服一次。兼治时疫疾病后余毒上攻眼目，非常有效。忌食油、面、煎炒、醋、酱等物。热极生风，上攻引起眼痛，红丝遮蔽瞳孔，便秘者，洗肝散加黄芩、黄连、芒硝泻下。视物昏暗，加石膏、羌活、石决明、谷精草、菊花、绿豆；有翳膜，加蝉蜕，加倍石决明、白蒺藜。如果在未结痂前，痘疮入眼的，洗肝散去大黄。眼睑涩滞多泪，生翳者，柴胡散、拨云散，或者神翳散加黑豆皮。虚证眼病，熟地黄丸、滋阴地黄丸、益气聪明汤。如果肝肾俱虚，羚虎丸：羚羊角、虎胫骨、生地黄、酸枣仁各五钱，肉桂、防风、当归、黄柏各五分，研为细末蜜炼为丸，如皂荚子大。每一丸，温水化开送下。虚证翳膜，用羊肝煮汁，加入蝉蜕末二钱服用。通用方，眼痛不可忍受者，浮萍散：浮萍研为细末，每次二钱，用羊肉半斤，用竹杖刺破，投入水中绞取汁液调服。受伤者也有效。
眼睛翻转露出白眼珠，是气虚危重证候，保元汤加陈年黄米救治；神志昏迷不醒者死亡。食用毒物导致眼睛凸出的，二仙散：仙灵脾、威灵仙等分，水煎服用。久不愈者，古蝉猪散：猪悬蹄甲二两（瓦罐内盛泥密封，烧至存性），蝉蜕二两，羚羊角一分，研为细末。
每次一字或五分，或二钱，根据儿童大小，温水调服。治疗痘疮入眼，半年已过的，一月见效。只有超过一年的，难治。
外治法：肿胀突出如桃子者，护眼膏；如果肿胀不消退者，用黄连研为细末，用蛋清调匀，涂抹在两太阳穴及两足心。风毒肿痛，瘙痒涩滞眵泪，
视物昏暗畏光者，秦皮散：滑石、黄连三味等分，水煎趁热清洗。受风流泪者，用田中豆荚捣汁，滴入眼中。已成翳膜者，塞耳丹：水银一钱，黄丹五钱，捣匀做成六丸，放入砂锅内，圆瓦盖定，湿纸封固，以香炉盛炭火烧一日即取出，用薄绵包裹，痘疮在左塞左耳，在右塞右耳，立即见效逐出毒气。一方用轻粉、黄丹等分为细末，用竹筒吹入耳内，左眼有翳吹右耳，右眼有翳吹左耳，即刻消退。
牙疳杀人，鼻子若朱砂色。
余毒攻蚀齿龈，腐烂生疳，杀人最快。牙龈肿痛动摇者，甘露饮，外用韭根、茶叶浓煎，清洗去除腐肉见血，
以溺白散敷之，每日三次。如果烂到喉中者，用竹管吹入，流出红白黄水者，可治；鼻梁发红点如朱砂者，不治。其颜色似干酱，一天烂一分，两天烂一寸，所以名叫走马疳，适宜与前文五种疳症条目参照治疗。
痘痈生于四肢，是脾经毒邪。

毒气流入肺经，则手太阴经脉并手腕肿胀，流变为赤痈毒，适宜消毒饮、如圣汤、五福化毒丹，或者用郁金、雄黄各一钱半，巴豆霜四十粒，研为细末，醋糊为丸，如绿豆大，每次二三丸，根据儿童大小，用热茶清送下，以通利大便。如果气血虚者，内托十宣散加枳实、桔梗、犀角；咽喉不利，或者肿痛者，甘桔汤加麦门冬、牛蒡子、薄荷；口齿流涎，有血腥臭味者，用生地黄自然汁，化开五福化毒丹一丸，用鸡毛刷入口中。如果肺毒流入大肠，便秘或者便脓血，见前杂证便血条下。
三阳经病变在背、腮、项部结核。
毒气流入三阳经，则背部、腮部、颈部结核肿痛，适宜小柴胡汤加生地黄最妙。热盛肿痛者，败毒散加荆芥、防风；肿甚者，消毒饮加忍冬藤；体虚者，内托十宣散减肉桂。通用方以赤芍、连翘为君药，桔梗、甘草为臣药，贝母、忍冬藤、白芷、栝蒌根为佐药，上用升麻、葛根为使药，下用槟榔、牛膝为使药。大便闭结，加大黄；发寒热，加黄芩、黄柏。不论脓是否已成，体质实者适宜服用。体虚者通用保元汤加酒炒黄芩、黄连少许。病程久者，上部适宜保元汤加引经药；下部适宜独活寄生汤，或者内托十宣散加减。三豆饮，不论虚实热常服。
外部护理筋骨以免偏瘫枯瘦。
凡是痘痈不论发于哪条经络，初起红肿时，却用黑豆、绿豆、赤豆等分，酸醋研成浆，时时用鹅毛刷涂，一切痈痘疖毒，不用针刀自然溃破。如果脓已成熟者，用披针烧红刺之，内服消毒饮，在腮项部位，加金银花。如果不早治疗，必致溃烂筋骨。金华散：黄丹、黄柏、黄连、大黄、黄芩、轻粉、麝香，研为细末，干撒。疮口干燥，用猪油调涂。治疗痘后肥疮、疳疮、癣疥，收敛水分凉肌解毒。敛肌散：地骨皮、黄连、五倍子、黄柏、甘草，研为细末，干撒。兼治疳蚀不愈合，以及痘后脓血混杂渗出不收口的疮疡。矾茧散：用白矾研为细末，塞入蚕茧内，令满，用炭火烧，令矾汁尽，取出研为细末，干撒。治疗痘后身上及肢节上生疳蚀，脓水不绝。
逃避痘疹的方法是后人巧妙构思，相信的人即使出痘也稀疏；
远古没有痘疹，周末秦初才有。初生婴儿，用生地黄自然汁，服用三蚬壳量，利下恶污，也可以使痘疹稀少。每逢冬季温暖，担心春季发痘，适宜预先服用三豆饮：黑豆、赤豆、绿豆各等分，甘草减半，水煮熟，任意饮用。凡是天行痘疮，乡邻盛行发作，适宜先服七日，痘永不发出。小儿阳气盛，无阴气制约，令头发竖直，饮食减少，这是伏热的征兆，适宜服用油剂：

钱乙、刘完素、陈文中、魏指欣的方法都值得效法，但要得要领还要羡慕丹溪的书。
钱乙、刘完素认为痘本源于胎毒，毒解而气血自然伸展；陈文中、魏指欣认为痘虽有内毒，毒出则正气虚。朱丹溪根据表里虚实，温补解毒兼用。只要见到热证，便用清肌解毒，甚则用芒硝、大黄；只要见到虚证，便用温中托里，甚则用干姜、附子。唉！方法无不善，运用贵在得当。痘疮本是外科伤寒之一，兼有内伤杂病、妇女胎产、小儿惊积，痘疮难道不是医学的统要吗！
Use *Rhus aromatica* resin (Xiangru) 2 qian, or add Myrrh (Moyao), *Angelica sinensis* root (Danggui), and Red Peony Root (Chishao), decoct in water and take orally. If body heat does not subside, use Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) or Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction).
Stroke causing whole-body cyanosis with a firm pulse is terrifying:
After recovery, if the whole body suddenly turns cyanotic or black, with cold extremities, locked jaw, drooling, a sound like sawing wood, and in severe cases slight twitching of limbs, this is due to internal deficiency being invaded by wind pathogen,
named Stroke (Zhongfeng). It is suitable to use Xiaofeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder) 2 qian, mixed with Cicada Slough powder (Chantui mo) 1 qian, divided into three doses. Add fresh ginger juice, mint juice, and a little wine, take with warm water after soaking, continue for 2-3 doses. Administer in small amounts frequently according to condition; it may manifest as Urticaria (Yinzhen) or skin rash before healing. Alternatively, Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Continuation Life Decoction) with Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi) and Aconite Fuber (Fuzi) removed, plus Schizonepeta Herb (Jingjie), is also effective.
Twitching and hemoptysis are harder to eliminate:
Non-timely twitching after recovery, eyes rolling up, face red, preference for coolness in diet and living environment, indicates Heart Heat with Phlegm. Suitable to use Daochi San (Guide Out Red Powder), Baolong Wan (Bear Dragon Pill), or Xiaochaihu Tang added with Raw Rehmannia Root (Shengdihuang). Also, post-illness weak Stomach Qi leading to twitching from food stagnation, tidal fever, sour-smelling irregular stool, or vomiting abdominal pain, suitable to select Zishuang Wan (Purple Frost Pill) or Xiaochengqi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction). Malignant symptoms indicate death. For cough triggered by wind-cold, use Shen Su Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Drink) modified; for wheezing and fullness, use Qianhu Zhike Tang (Peucedani and Immature Bitter Orange Decoction). If toxin attacks the Lung, causing rapid wheezing, coughing foul pus and blood, it indicates death.
Eye nebulae (Yi) are all contraindicated for eye drops:
Post-recovery eye nebulae should only be treated by activating blood and resolving toxin, so that the Five Viscera harmonize, pain stops naturally, and nebulae disappear without causing concave damage. Eye drops are unsuitable because toxins reach the exterior from the viscera; forcing them with drops causes harm. Only when nebulae have formed, use blood from live eel spines applied to the nebula, followed by Rabbit Dropping Soup (Tushitang), which is best. If there is no nebula but eyes lack luster, after 100 days, when Qi and Blood recover, vision will naturally brighten. However, those who took excessive hot medicines or foods, or have strong wind-toxin, must take internal clearing medications. Those who took excessive purgatives or have weak constitution leading to blurred vision after smallpox recovery, should酌情 tonify Liver, Kidney, Spleen, and Stomach. Treats smallpox damaging eyes. For Hot Nebulae, Dihuang San: Raw Rehmannia Root (Shengdihuang), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shudihuang), *Angelica sinensis* root (Danggui) each 1 fen, Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Notopterygium Rhizome (Qianghuo), Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao - note: substitute legally), Cicada Slough (Chantui), Equisetum Stem (Muzei), Galega Seed (Gujingcao), Tribulus Fruit (Bajili), Rhubarb (Dahuang) each 1 qian, Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen) 5 fen, Akebia Caulis (Mutong), Licorice Root (Gancao) each 1.5 qian (one formula has Huanglian), grind to powder. Each 5 fen, according to child's size, mix with juice boiled from sheep liver, observe dietary restrictions. Treats smallpox entering eyes, Heart-Liver congestion heat, red swollen painful eyes, red veins, or white membrane covering pupil. Diffuse edges are easy to treat; sudden dark covering often leads to blindness, use this quickly. Adults also suitable. For Wind Swelling Nebulae, Chanke San: Cicada Slough (Chantui), Cortex Lycii (Digupi), Moutan Bark (Mudanpi), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), Chrysanthemum Flower (Juhua), Atractylodes Rhizome (Cangzhu) each 1 liang, Gentian Root (Longdancao) 5 qian, Melon Seed (Tianguazi) half zhan, grind to powder. Each 1.5 qian, take with Schizonepeta decoction. After meals and before bed, one dose each. Also treats residual toxin attacking eyes after epidemic diseases, very effective. Avoid oil, noodles, fried foods, vinegar, soy sauce. Extreme heat generating wind, attacking eyes causing pain, red veins covering pupil, constipation: Xigan San added with Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), Mirabilite (Mangxiao) to purge. Blurred vision: add Gypsum (Shigao), Notopterygium Rhizome (Qianghuo), Halloysitum (Shijueming), Galega Seed (Gujingcao), Chrysanthemum Flower (Juhua), Mung Bean (Lvdou); Nebulae: add Cicada Slough (Chantui), double Halloysitum (Shijueming), Tribulus Fruit (Bajili). Before scabbing, if smallpox enters eyes, remove Rhubarb (Dahuang) from Xigan San. Eyelid astringency, tearing, nebulae: Chaihu San, Boyun San, or Shenyi San added with Black Soybean Skin (Heidoupi). Deficient eyes: Shudihuang Wan, Ziyin Dihuang Wan, Yiqi Congming Tang. If Liver and Kidney both deficient, Linghu Wan: Antelope Horn (Lingyangjiao), Tiger Tibia Bone (Hujingggu - note: substitute legally), Raw Rehmannia Root (Shengdihuang), Sour Jujube Seed (Suanzaoren) each 5 qian, Cinnamon Bark (Rougui), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), *Angelica sinensis* root (Danggui), Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai) each 5 fen, grind to powder, honey pills, size of soap bean. One pill, dissolve in warm water and take. Deficient nebulae: boil sheep liver juice, add Cicada Slough powder 2 qian and take. Universal formula for unbearable eye pain: Fuping San: Floating Duckweed (Fuping) powder, each 2 qian, use half jin mutton, pierce with bamboo stick, immerse in half zhan water, squeeze juice and take. Effective for injuries.
Everts of the eyeball indicate critical Qi deficiency, save with Baoyuan Tang added with aged yellow rice; unconsciousness indicates death. Eyes protruding from eating toxic substances: Erxian San: Epimedium Herba (Xianlingpi), Clematis Root (Weilingxian) equal parts, decoct and take. Chronic non-healing: Gu Chan Zhu San: Pig Suspended Hoof Nail 2 liang (sealed in clay in tile pot, burnt to retain nature), Cicada Slough 2 liang, Antelope Horn 1 fen, grind to powder.
Each zi or 5 fen or 2 qian, according to child's size, take with warm water. Treats smallpox entering eyes, effective within one month if over half a year passed. Difficult to treat if over one year.
External treatment for swelling protruding like a peach: Huyan Gao; if swelling does not open, use Coptis Rhizome powder mixed with egg white, apply to both Taiyang acupoints and both Yongquan acupoints on soles. Wind-toxin swelling pain, itching, astringency, discharge, blurred vision, photophobia: Qinpi San: Talcum (Huashi), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian) three ingredients equal parts, decoct and wash while hot. Wind-induced tearing: crush field bean pods for juice, drip into eyes. For formed nebulae: Sai'er Dan: Mercury 1 qian, Lead Monoxide (Huandan) 5 qian, mix evenly into six pills, put in clay pot, cover with round tile, seal with wet paper, burn in charcoal incense burner for one day, then take out, wrap in thin cotton. Smallpox on left plug left ear, on right plug right ear, immediately expels. Another formula: Calomel (Qingfen), Lead Monoxide (Huandan) equal parts powder, blow into ear with bamboo tube, left eye nebula blow right ear, right eye nebula blow left ear, immediately recedes.
Canthus rot kills, nose looks like cinnabar.
Residual toxin attacks gums, rotting and forming canthus rot, killing fastest. Gum swelling pain and mobility: Ganlu Yin, externally boil leek roots and tea leaves strongly, wash away rotten flesh until bleeding, apply Niobai San, three times daily. If rot reaches throat, blow in with bamboo tube; if red/white/yellow fluid comes out, treatable; if nasal bridge has red spots like cinnabar, untreatable. Color like dry paste, rots 1 fen per day, 1 cun per two days, named Running Horse Canthus Rot (Zouma Gan), refer to previous five types of Gan treatments.
Smallpox abscesses on limbs are Spleen meridian toxin.
Blood heat draws toxin flowing through meridians, so it accumulates in weak muscle areas or mobile joints forming abscesses. Post-recovery, residual toxin not attacking viscera/skin but entering collaterals forms abscesses. Mild cases: tender nodules, swelling, boils. Severe cases: head, chest, ribs, limbs swell and hurt. Toxin flowing into Spleen meridian causes abscesses on limbs, wrists, knees/shins swelling/pain: Qingdu Yin, Shengma Gegen Tang; Deficient: Shi Liu Wei Liuqi Yin added with Aconite Fuber (Fuzi). Externally: Purslane juice mixed with lard and honey boiled into ointment, apply to swelling; or live clams kept in water for 5 days, use water to wash hands/face, gradually regenerates muscle without scars.
Lung meridian issues at hand-Shaoyin acupoints.
Toxin flowing into Lung meridian causes hand-Shaoyin area and wrist swelling, turning into red abscess toxin: Xiaodu Yin, Rusheng Tang, Wufu Huadu Dan; or Turmeric Rhizome (Yujin), Realgar (Xionghuang) each 1.5 qian, Croton Seed Paste (Bashuang) 40 grains, powder, vinegar paste pills, mung bean size, 2-3 pills, take with hot clear tea to purge. Qi/Blood deficient: Neituo Shixuan San added with Immature Bitter Orange (Zhishi), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng), Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao); Throat obstruction/swelling: Ganjie Tang added with Ophiopogon Tuber (Maimendong), Burr Seed (Niubangzi), Mint (Bohe); Saliva/bloody odor from mouth/teeth: Raw Rehmannia natural juice, dissolve one Wufu Huadu Dan pill, brush into mouth with chicken feather. Toxin flowing into San-Yang meridians causes back, cheek, neck nodules swelling/pain: Xiaochaihu Tang added with Raw Rehmannia Root (Shengdihuang) is best. High heat swelling/pain: Baidu San added with Schizonepeta (Jingjie), Saposhnikovia (Fangfeng); Severe swelling: Xiaodu Yin added with Honeysuckle Vine (Ren Dong Teng); Deficient: Neituo Shixuan San reduced Cinnamon Bark (Rougui). Universal: Red Peony Root (Chishao), Forsythia (Lianqiao) as Sovereign; Platycodon (Jiegeng), Licorice (Gancao) as Minister; Fritillaria Bulb (Beimu), Honeysuckle Vine (Ren Dong Teng), Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhu), Trichosanthes Root (Gualougen) as Assistant; Cimicifuga (Shengma), Kudzu Root (Gegen) as Guide-up; Areca Seed (Binglang), Achyranthes Root (Niu Xi) as Guide-down. Constipation: add Rhubarb (Dahuang); Chills/fever: add Scutellaria (Huangqin), Phellodendron (Huangbai). Suitable for excess constitution regardless of pus formation. Deficient: Baoyuan Tang added with wine-fried Scutellaria/Huanglian slightly. Chronic: Upper body Baoyuan Tang with guiding herbs; Lower body Duhuo Jisheng Tang or Neituo Shixuan San modified. Sandou Yin, regular use for any deficiency-heat.
External care prevents tendons/bones from becoming paralyzed/withered.
Any smallpox abscess, initial red/swollen stage: use Black/Green/Red beans equal parts, vinegar ground to paste, brush with goose feather constantly, all abscesses/pox/boils rupture without needles/knives. If pus ripe: prick with red-hot needle, internally take Xiaodu Yin, add Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) for cheek/neck. If not treated early, tendon/bone ulceration inevitable. Jinhua San: Lead Monoxide (Huandan), Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai), Coptis (Huanglian), Rhubarb (Dahuang), Scutellaria (Huangqin), Calomel (Qingfen), Musk (Shexiang), powder, dry sprinkle. Dry wounds: pig fat mix. Treats post-pox肥疮 (fat sore), canthus sore, tinea/scratches, dries fluid, cools muscle, resolves toxin. Lianji San: Cortex Lycii (Digupi), Coptis (Huanglian), Chinese Gall (Wubeizi), Phellodendron (Huangbai), Licorice (Gancao), powder, dry sprinkle. Treats canthus erosion non-healing, post-pox pus/blood exudation. Fanjian San: Alum (Bai fan) powder stuffed in silkworm cocoon, burnt until alum juice exhausted, powder, dry sprinkle. Treats post-pox body/limb canthus erosion, continuous pus.
Escape smallpox method is later cleverness, believers even if they get it, it's sparse;
Ancient times had no smallpox, appeared late Zhou/Qin. Newborns: Raw Rehmannia natural juice, 3 clam shells amount, purges filth, can reduce smallpox severity. Warm winter fearing spring outbreak: pre-take Sandou Yin: Black/Red/Green beans equal parts, Licorice half amount, boiled, drink freely. Epidemic smallpox in neighborhood: pre-take 7 days, prevent outbreak. Children Yang excess, Yin insufficient, hair stands up, poor appetite, sign of latent heat: take oil agent: Sesame Oil 1 zhan, drink daily, prevents smallpox. Also take Shengma Gegen Tang, Sandou Yin for prevention. Xiaodu Baoying Dan: Chantou Teng (vine wrapping soybean stalk, harvested Aug, dried) 1.5 liang, Black beans 30, Red beans 70, Hawthorn Flesh (Shanzha rou), Burr Seed (Niubangzi), Raw Rehmannia (Shengdihuang), Cinnabar (Chensha) each 1 liang, Cimicifuga (Shengma), Forsythia (Lianqiao) each 7.5 qian, Schizonepeta (Jingjie), Saposhnikovia (Fangfeng), Angelica Pubescens (Duhuo), Licorice (Gancao), *Angelica sinensis* (Danggui), Red Peony (Chishao), Coptis (Huanglian), Platycodon (Jiegeng) each 5 qian, Frost-killed loofah (5 cun long, burnt to retain nature) 2 pieces.
Pre-prepare fine materials. On Spring/Autumn Equinox, Lantern Festival, Qixi, avoid women/cats/dogs, sincere preparation, powder mix, refined sugar pills, plum pit size.
One pill, dissolve in strong Licorice decoction. Children uninfected: take one pill on Equinoxes, toxin gradually digested. 1-2 doses reduces severity; 3 years 6 doses fully digests toxin, no worry.
Qian, Liu, Chen, Wei methods are worthy, but value Danxi's book most.
Qian/Liu believe smallpox is fetal toxin, resolved then Qi/Blood extends; Chen/Wei believe although internal toxin, eruption causes deficiency. Danji uses warming/tonifying/resolving based on exterior/interior/deficiency/excess. Heat signs: clear muscle/resolve toxin, even use Mirabilite/Rhubarb; Deficiency signs: warm middle/support interior, even use Ginger/Aconite. Alas! Methods are good, application is key. Smallpox is part of surgical Shanghan, involving internal injury/miscellaneous diseases, women's obstetrics, children's convulsions/stagnation. Is smallpox not central to medicine?
