Zhang Zhongjing's *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases) records: "The Master said: 'Yellow sweat disease presents with body swelling and fever, sweating accompanied by thirst. The symptoms resemble Fengshui disease (a type of edema primarily affecting the head and face), sweat stains the clothes a bright yellow color like cypress juice, and the pulse is naturally deep.' Someone asked: 'How is this disease acquired?' The Master said: 'It is acquired because when sweating, water enters the sweat pores; water invades from the exterior. It should be treated primarily with Huangqi Shaoyao Guizhi Jiu Tang.'"

Cut the above three herbs, mix with one sheng of vinegar and seven sheng of water, boil to obtain three sheng of liquid, remove dregs, and take one sheng warm. After taking the medicine, mental restlessness (fannao) will appropriately occur. By the sixth or seventh day, symptoms will gradually resolve spontaneously. If mental restlessness persists, it is due to the obstruction caused by the vinegar. Another method uses high-quality rice vinegar instead of wine; raw green onion is contraindicated.
Furthermore, in all cases of yellow sweat disease, the lower legs are naturally cold; if fever occurs, this belongs to Lijie disease (joint pain severe as if bitten by a tiger), with sweating occurring immediately after eating. Also, if the body frequently sweats at night during sleep (night sweating), this is Laoqi disease (deficiency qi disease). If fever follows sweating, over time the body will inevitably develop Jiachuo (skin dry and rough like fish scales); those with persistent fever will certainly develop malignant sores. If the body feels heavy and becomes lighter after sweating, over time the body will inevitably become numb and insensible, leading to chest pain. If sweating occurs only above the waist but not below, with flaccid pain in the loins and hips, feeling as if insects are crawling under the skin, and in severe cases, inability to eat, body pain and heaviness with irritability, and difficult urination, this is named Yellow Sweat Disease, treated with Guizhi Tang plus Huangqi.

Wu Hegao stated: "Fangfeng and Mahuang are exterior-releasing herbs; for wind-heat pathogens in the skin, they are excreted through sweat via these herbs. Jingjie and Bohe are upper-clearing herbs; for wind-heat pathogens at the vertex, they are excreted through the nose via these herbs. Dahuang and Mangxiao are purgative herbs; for wind-heat pathogens in the intestines and stomach, they are excreted through defecation via these herbs. Huashi and Zhizi are water-passage herbs; for wind-heat pathogens in the triple burner, they are excreted through urination via these herbs. Wind pathogen overflowing into the diaphragm affects the lungs and stomach; Shigao and Jiegeng clear the lungs and stomach. Meanwhile, Lianqiao and Huangqin dispel wandering fire in various meridians. The harm of wind is governed by Liver Wood; Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Shaoyao harmonize liver blood. Gancao and Baizhu harmonize stomach qi and strengthen the spleen. Mr. Liu Shouzhen excelled in treating fire; the principle of this formula is detailed and comprehensive."
The rhyme states: "Fangtong Tongsheng contains Dahuang and Xiaoyao, Jingjie Mahuang Zhizi Shaoyao Lianqiao, Gancao Guben Chuanxiong Danggui Shigao Huashi, Bohe Huangqin Baizhu have strong power."
Qufeng Zhibao Dan (Wind-Dispelling Precious Pill) treats wind pathogen entering meridians and viscera, and all critical conditions.

Houshi Heisan (Hou Shi Black Powder) treats severe wind causing heaviness in limbs and a sense of cold deficiency in the heart (used in *Waitai Mi Yao* for wind epilepsy).
Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos, forty fen) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, each ten fen) Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, eight fen) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, five fen) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) Renshen (Ginseng Radix) Fuling (Poria) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Muli (Concha Ostreae) Fanshi (Alumen) Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, each three fen)
Grind the above fourteen herbs into powder. Take one fangcunbi with wine, once daily. For the first twenty days, take with warm wine. Contraindicate all fish, meat, and garlic. Prefer cold food. Stop after sixty days. This ensures the medicine accumulates in the abdomen without descending; hot food causes it to descend, while cold food aids its efficacy. The formula uses Renshen, Fuling, Danggui, and Chuanxiong to tonify qi and blood as sovereign herbs; Juhua, Baizhu, and Muli nourish liver, spleen, and kidney as minister herbs; add Fangfeng and Guizhi to move bi-obstruction qi. Since wind leads with cold, use Xixin and Ganjiang first to drive away assisting cold. Fire arises with wind, so use Huangqin and Jiegeng to disperse stagnant heat. Fanshi removes dampness and resolves toxicity, astringing heart qi. Wine circulates throughout the body as envoy herb, ensuring old wind exits and new wind does not enter. It must be taken as powder with wine for sixty days, preferring cold food to keep medicine in the abdomen. Generally, evil Qi invading the heart dislikes heat and prefers cold, indicating yin-cold origin. If yang in the chest is not treated, wind cannot exit. Thus, fill the empty cavities in the chest with medicine first to strengthen middle qi, preventing internal invasion and forcing external elimination. This aligns with *Neijing*: "Blocking empty cavities is the principle of skilled physicians." If treating only exterior and interior, wind may exit but doors remain open, allowing re-entry, making it uncontrollable.
Dihuang Yinzi (Rehmannia Decoction) treats fei syndrome of the feet (inability to walk) and yin syndrome of the tongue (inability to speak), caused by failure of Shaoyin qi to reach, named Yinfei.
Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix) Rongrongrou (Cistanches Meat) Fuling (Poria) Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix) Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis) Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) Bajirou (Morinda Officinalis Cortex, each five fen) Boheye (Mint Leaf, two fen)
Two cups of water, decoct to eight parts and take.
All herbs are heavy and sinking in nature to suppress rebellious fire. However, fire originates from wind, is formless and fast-moving, so light and clear Bohe is used as a guide. Decoct briefly to prevent all heavy flavors from extracting, allowing light clear qi to travel to yang aspect to disperse wind, and heavy turbid qi to travel to yin aspect to suppress rebellion. Such is the subtlety of formula preparation and decoction methods.
Canfu Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Decoction) (See Night Sweating section)

For rapid pulse and warm hands/feet (heat transformation pattern), use Fengyin Tang or Zhuye Shigao Tang.
Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) (See Cold Damage section)
Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction) (See Fire Syndrome section)
Huanglian Ejiao Tang (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction) treats Shaoyin disease persisting for two or more days with mental restlessness and inability to sleep. Borrowed for Shaoyin wind-stroke.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, four qian) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, one qian) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, two qian) Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin, three qian) Jizihuang (Chicken Egg Yolk, two beaten evenly, take one-third)
Take the above five herbs. With two cups of water, boil the first three to obtain one cup. Remove dregs, dissolve Ejiao completely. Cool slightly, add chicken egg yolk, stir well. Take warm, three times daily. This is a Shaoyin heat-transformation pattern. Use bitter-cold Huanglian and Huangqin to subdue it, bitter-neutral Shaoyao to descend it. Chicken egg yolk supplements qi in Li (Heart/Fire), Ejiao supplements essence in Kan (Kidney/Water). Let these sentient substances interact water and fire, stopping restlessness and enabling sleep. This is a heaven-restoring method.

Mix, take warm, divided into three doses, day and night. Outside the elaborations of Liu, Zhu, and Li, later generations added four patterns: Evil Middle, Food Middle, Cold Middle, Summerheat Middle. (Sun Xin Dian notes: Food Middle is caused by overeating filling Taiyin, blocking upper and lower qi leading to syncope. Treat with Pingwei San modified, induce vomiting, or administer Beijidan.)
Fengyin Tang (Wind-Driving Decoction) treats adult wind-stroke with牵引 (pulling/twitching), pediatric convulsions, and also mania, madness, and epilepsy.

Sift the above twelve herbs using a bamboo basket, store in a reed bag. Take three finger-pinches, add three sheng of well water, boil three times. Take one sheng warm (approx. one and a half liang per dose).
When wind pathogen merges internally, fire-heat generates internally, five zang organs become hyperactive, rushing into the Heart. Thus, Guizhi, Gancao, Longgu, and Muli are used as sovereign herbs to unblock yang qi and calm heart-kidney. Jueyin Wind-Wood and Shaoyang Minister-Fire rise together; fire generation causes wind, wind carries wood energy to insult Spleen-Earth. Spleen qi stagnates, fluids condense into phlegm, flowing to extremities causing paralysis. Thus, Dahuang is used as minister herb to purge wind-fire-damp-heat. Ganjiang is used as counter-agent to supplement and stop movement. Huashi and Shigao clear Metal to control Wood. Chishizhi and Baishizhi thicken Earth to remove dampness. Hanshuishi assists Kidney Water yin. Zi Shiyingshi supplements Heart Spirit deficiency as envoy herb. Thus treating adult/pediatric wind-convulsion-epilepsy. Why do later generations avoid stone herbs due to excess, instead using Musk and Camphor to scatter true qi, and Flower Snakes to increase toxicity?

Cut like hemp seeds. Take three liang per dose, decoct in three sheng water to one and a half sheng. Take throughout the day. Mild loose stool is the goal.
*Neijing* states: "Excess Spleen-Stomach leads to inability to lift limbs." Also: "Earth excess leads to Dunfu. Fu means high; Dun means dense. Dense and high requires removal. This is a disease of rich food, not Kidney deficiency." How to know? *Neijing* says: "Three Yin and Three Yang diseases manifest as hemiplegia and Wei-Yi (flaccidity)." Wang Bing notes: "Three Yin deficiency causes hemiplegia; Three Yang excess causes Wei-Yi; Yi refers to common Wei-Yi, meaning flaccid weakness." Treatment suits Sanhua Tang to purge until qi weakens, yang declines, earth balances, and health returns. If Spleen deficiency, limbs are useless. *Neijing* says: "Earth deficiency leads to Beijian. Bei means low; Jian means陷 (sunken/hole)." "Limbs receive qi from Stomach but cannot reach meridians directly; must rely on Spleen. Now Spleen cannot transport fluids for Stomach, limbs lack grain qi, deteriorate daily, meridians obstruct, bones/muscles lack qi to generate, thus useless." Treatment suits Shiquan San, modify Siwu Tang, eliminate evil retain right.
Zhouhou Zi Fang (*Waitai Emergency Formula*) treats wind-stroke with stiff spine, body spasm like a bow.
Jishi (Chicken Droppings, two liang) Dadou (Soybeans, one sheng) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, three liang)
