[Yun Qizi] Chentong San (Urging Pain-Relieving Powder): Treats postpartum body pain due to Qi deficiency and blood stasis, as well as fever and headache.
Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Astragali Radix (Huangqi), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo), Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma (Shengjiang) (each 0.5 liang); Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus (Xiebai) (each 3.5 qian).
The above herbs are cut into small pieces. Take 0.5 liang per dose, add three zhen of water, decoct until one and a half zhen remains, remove the dregs, and take before meals.
Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) decocted with wine treats headache and body pain caused by cold invasion; the formula is seen in the Shanghan (Cold Damage) section. It may be safer to take it mixed with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) in equal halves. Adding Persicariae Herba (Taoren) decoction treats lower back pain, expels bad blood, and dispels wind-dampness.
[TAI PING HUI MIN HE JI JU FANG] Treats postpartum generalized cyanotic swelling and pain, as well as various diseases.
Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong), Hordeum Vulgare (Damai) (equal parts).
The above herbs are ground into fine powder. Fill a new clay pot layer by layer with Hordeum Vulgare (Damai) and Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong) until full. Seal firmly with salt mud, fire-calcine until red hot, let cool, and grind into powder. For any postpartum disease, mix two qian with hot wine and take orally.
Fengbi (Wind-Bi Syndrome) is a mixed disease where Wind pathogen and Bi pathogen combine. Generally, Feng (Wind), Bi (Obstruction), Wei (Flaccidity), and Jue (Reversal/Cold Extremities) often occur together. Examples include Fengbi, Fengwei, Weijue, Bijue, and Fengjue. Fengwei and Fengfei (Wind Paralysis) are now collected in the Zhongfeng (Stroke) section. Weijue and Bijue refer to Xianggangjiao (Hong Kong Foot/Charcot Joint-like condition), now collected in the Jue section. Fengjue and Fengbi are scattered across various sections. Fengbi is now collected in the Bi section.
Ling Shu (Spiritual Pivot) states: Diseases located in Yang are named Feng (Wind) (from the chapter *Shou Yao Gang Rou*). Li Dongyuan said: This disease is in Yang, caused by Wind pathogen invading each of the twelve meridians; speaking from a high perspective, it affects the Qi level. Therefore, when Wind invades the upper half of the body, acupuncture should guide the pathogen out. He also said: Disperse and eliminate it; use acrid-warm herbs to disperse, apply "treat obstruction with unblocking methods" (Tong Yin Yong Tong), and "treat heat with heat" (Re Yin Yong Re).
Ling Shu states: Diseases located in Yin are named Bi. Li Dongyuan said: The lower half of the body is invaded by Dampness, named Bi. Overeating damages the intestines and stomach; fatigue and overwork cause Spleen-Stomach Qi deficiency with sinking, preventing Ying (Nutritive) Qi from ascending and floating to nourish the Heart and Lungs.
When both Yin and Yang meridians are diseased, it is named Fengbi (meaning both Yin-Yang and Qi-Blood are diseased). Rough skin on the Chi area indicates Fengbi (full text see Diagnosis section).
Ling Shu states: In Fengbi, the pathogen spreads insidiously, the disease cannot be cured easily; feet feel like walking on ice, sometimes feeling like entering boiling water; thighs and calves feel heavy and sore; heart vexation and headache (damage Kidney and Spleen). Occasional vomiting, occasional vertigo followed by sweating (damage Heart). Long-term dizziness (damage Liver). Sadness and frequent fear, shortness of breath and unhappiness (damage Lung). Death within three years (another version says death in three days).
