[Danxi] Eyebrow pain is attributed to wind-heat and phlegm, and should be treated as wind-phlegm syndrome. It resembles head wind (toufeng), and can be treated with powder of Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi) and Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) processed with wine, taken with wine.
Another prescription:
Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Chuanwu) and Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix (Caowu) [these two serve as the sovereign drugs, soaked in child's urine and stir-fried], Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Notopterygii Radix et Rhizoma (Qianghuo), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) [all in equal parts, serving as minister/adjuvant drugs].
[Li Dongyuan] Xuanqi Tang is used for unbearable pain in the eyebrow bone.
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) and Notopterygii Radix et Rhizoma (Qianghuo) [each 3 qian], Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) processed with wine [1 qian, not used in winter; add if the patient can eat and the pain is heat-type], and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) [3 qian, raw in summer, roasted in winter].
Crush the above herbs, take 3 qian per dose, decoct in water, drink slightly warm, and take frequently after meals.
"Cuyao" and "Zhaoying" record: Pain inside the inner corner of the eyebrows: Jiexi (ST41).
"Yuji Zhenzang Lun" records: Pain between the eyebrows: Cuanzhu (BL2) [bleed by draining, penetrate subcutaneously towards Yufu]; Touwei (ST8) [needle 1 fen, penetrate obliquely downwards subcutaneously towards Xuanlu, select and use as needed, do not necessarily take all]. Pain in the supraorbital ridge: Cuanzhu (BL2), Hegu (LI4), Shenting (GV24).
[Li Dongyuan] Hongdou San treats a sensation of heaviness in the head like a mountain, which is caused by dampness in the head.
Ephedrae Radicis Caulis (Mahuanggen) [roasted, half qian], Bungea Semen (Kudingcha/Kudingding - note: traditionally Ku Ding Cha is Ilex kudingcha, but here specified as Ku Ding Ding/Bungea, often confused or specific local herb, keeping literal translation contextually as Bungea Seed or similar, but standard WHO might map differently. Given text says 'Ku Ding Ding', likely referring to a specific seed, often associated with clearing heat. For accuracy to text: Bungea Semen], Vigna Angularis Seed (Hongdou) [10 grains], Notopterygii Radix et Rhizoma (Qianghuo) [burnt], and Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao) [each 3 qian].
Grind the above five herbs into fine powder, insufflate into the nose.
Another prescription:
Notopterygii Radix et Rhizoma (Qianghuogen) [burnt], and Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao) [each 3 qian], Vigna Angularis Seed (Hongdou) [half qian].
Grind into powder, insufflate into the nose.
The collateral branch of the Du Meridian is named Changqiang. It runs alongside the spine up to the neck, scatters around the head, passes left and right of the shoulder blades, and diverges to run along the Taiyang Meridian. When deficient, it causes heaviness of the head; when the head is tilted high, there are abnormalities along the spine. Treat by taking the point where this collateral diverges. (Full text see Acupuncture. Changqiang GV1 is at the end of the coccyx.)
"Cuyao" records: Heaviness of the head like a stone: Yintang (EX-HN3) [needle 1 fen, penetrate subcutaneously to Cuanzhu, first left then right, bleed by flicking the needle].
[Luo Tianyi] Excess wind in the Liver Meridian causes Wood to shake spontaneously. The "Book of Documents" states: "Pride invites loss." Laozi states: "Things become old when they are too strong." Thus, Wood insults Spleen Earth, and Metal comes to control it; this is the son seeking revenge for the mother. If combing hair produces dandruff, this is a sign of Lung disease, because the Lung governs skin and hair. If stool is solid, treat with Xieqing Wan; if deficient, treat with Xiaofeng San. (Xieqing Wan formula see Treatment of Deficiency and Excess methods.)
Xiaofeng San treats various winds attacking upwards, causing dizziness and headache, stiffness of the neck and back, limb pain, muscle twitching, vertigo, tinnitus like cicadas, dry eyes and somnolence, nasal congestion and sneezing, skin numbness and hardness, dry itching, and urticaria. It also treats women's blood wind, presenting with swollen and itchy scalp, eyebrow bone pain, vertigo about to fall, nausea due to rebellious phlegm.
Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Xiong), Notopterygii Radix et Rhizoma (Qianghuo), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Poria (Fuling) [peeled], Bombyx Batryticatus (Baijiangcan), Agastaches Herba (Huoxiang) [cleaned of soil], Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) [roasted], Cryptotympanae Perga (Chanqiao) [cleaned of soil, each 2 liang], Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo) [peeled, ginger-processed], Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi) [peeled of white pith, each half liang], Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng).
Grind into fine powder, take 2 qian per dose, mix with clear tea liquor. For chronic hemiplegic head wind, take three times daily, and relief will be felt. If bathing exposes one to sudden wind-cold, causing headache, heavy body, chills and fever, fatigue and pain, take half a cup mixed with Jingjie and clear tea liquor, without restriction on timing. For children's deficiency wind, presenting with dry eyes, dizziness, fatigue, and acute or chronic convulsive disorders, mixing with Milk Resin and Jingjie Decoction is also effective.
[Danxi] Itching head with yellowish wind-dandruff: Take Rhubarb (Dahuang) stir-fried with wine, mixed with tea liquor.
[Hai Zang] Wanbing Ziwan Wan treats excessive white dandruff on the head. Take 3 to 5-7 pills per dose, washed down with ginger soup. (Formula see Masses section.)
"Bencao" treats extreme dryness and itching of wind-dandruff without cessation, caused by Qi deficiency and wind-pathogen invading the skin surface. Use Veratrum nigrum (Lilu) in any amount, ground into powder. Wash the head first, avoid wind, and while the hair is not completely dry, sprinkle the powder on it. The powder must reach the scalp. Tie tightly for two days and nights; the next day, dryness and itching will cease. If slight symptoms remain, apply once more for immediate effect.
Yuxi notes: Chen Cangqi said: Tamarix Gallica Fruit (Yanfuizi) treats head wind white dandruff effectively. (Commonly known as Fuyan Tao, its end forms Chinese Gall/Galla Chinensis/Wubeizi.)
"Jing" records: For excessive white dandruff on the head, soak Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix (Shandoug en) in oil and apply; mixing with infant milk for application is effective.
"Bencao" Another method:
Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi) and Lingling Fragrant Herb (Linglingxiang) [equal parts].
Grind into powder, use as described previously. After 3-5 days, comb out, apply 2-3 times, and it will never grow again.
