The appearance of smallpox on both temples is auspicious when sparse and clear; if dense and adherent, it indicates wild and rampant fire-toxin. Treatment should first employ Songji Tongsheng San (Cranial-Relaxing Supreme-Preservation Powder) to vent the toxin, followed by Guizong Tang (Return-to-Ancestral Decoction) to attack the toxic heat, which yields good results.
[Note]
The temples are close to the Taiyang meridian (Greater Yang channel). Sparse and clear eruption is a favorable sign. If dense and adherent, it is named "Baobi" (Embracing Temples), indicating extreme abundance of fire-toxin. It is appropriate to first use Songji Tongsheng San to vent its toxin, and subsequently use Guizong Tang to attack its toxic heat, thereby turning danger into safety.
(Songji Tongsheng San) Formula see "Mengtou Syndrome Treatment".
(Guizong Tang) Formula see "Fever Syndrome Treatment".
Smallpox gathering behind the ears is named "Meng□" (covering head), representing latent toxin in the Kidney meridian, which is most worrying. Songji Tongsheng San and Guizong Tang may be used in combination, and the Yanzhi Paste application method should not be delayed.
[Note]
When smallpox gathers at the high bone behind the ear, it is named "Meng□". This stems from toxic fire originating from the Kidney meridian, presenting the most malignant symptoms. Internally administer Songji Tongsheng San, and externally apply Yanzhi Paste. If the eruption is denser, pustular, and hotter, use Guizong Tang to attack the toxic heat.
(Songji Tongsheng San) Formula see "Mengtou Syndrome Treatment".
(Yanzhi Paste) Preparation: Decoct Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) into a thick decoction, strain off the dregs, rub cotton-based Zhiyan (Alkanna Root/Cochineal) in the liquid to extract red juice, add fine powder of Xionghuang (Realgar), mix evenly, and apply to the affected area.
(Guizong Tang) Formula see "Fever Syndrome Treatment".
Smallpox particularly dense around both eyes is named "Suoyan" (Locking Eyes), caused by toxic heat injuring the Spleen meridian. Externally apply Yanzhi Paste, and internally administer Qingre Jiedu Tang (Clearing Heat and Resolving Toxin Decoction) is appropriate.
[Note]
If the face is generally sparse but only the areas around both eyes are dense, it is named "Suoyan". This indicates blazing toxic heat injuring the Spleen meridian. Externally, apply Yanzhi Paste; internally, take Qingre Jiedu Tang.
(Yanzhi Paste) Formula see "Mengbi Syndrome Treatment".
(Qingre Jiedu Tang) Formula see "Jiandian Syndrome Treatment".
Smallpox resembling silkworm seeds surrounding the nose tip indicates toxin accumulation in the Spleen and Lungs, a critical condition that cannot be prolonged. Externally apply Yanzhi Paste to the nose, and internally treat with Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Decoction for Resolving Toxin).
[Note]
If the face is generally sparse but only the left and right sides of the nasal bridge are dense like silkworm seeds, it is named "Baobi" (Embracing Nose). This represents toxin accumulation in the Spleen and Lungs, a critically dangerous syndrome. First, apply Yanzhi Paste to the nose, then treat with Huanglian Jiedu Tang.
(Yanzhi Paste) Formula see "Mengbi Syndrome Treatment".
(Huanglian Jiedu Tang) Formula see "Jiejia Luojia Syndrome Treatment".
