For all types of jaundice (Huangdan), Zhigao Fa Jian (Pig Fat and Hair Decoction) is the primary treatment.
For diarrhea accompanied by lung pain, Zishen Wan (Zi San Pill) is the primary treatment.
The Master said: In patients with Diejue disease, they can only walk forward but not backward. Acupuncture insertion at a depth of two cun treats this condition, which is caused by injury to the Taiyang meridian.
When a patient frequently experiences swelling and tremors in the fingers and arms, and the body is emaciated, Lili Gancao Tang (Veratrum and Licorice Decoction) is the primary treatment.
Question: How can one distinguish the pulse in cases of abdominal pain caused by parasites? The Master said: In abdominal pain, the pulse should be deep or wiry. If it is instead flooding and large, it indicates the presence of roundworms (Hui Chong).
The Master said: When a woman presents with a calm pulse, but the Yin pulse (specifically the chi position) is small and weak, and she experiences thirst and inability to eat, without aversion to cold or fever, this is named pregnancy. Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is the primary treatment. According to medical principles, around sixty days into pregnancy, these symptoms should appear. If improper treatment causes adverse reactions, and after another month vomiting and diarrhea occur, the erroneous treatment must be discontinued.
In women pregnant for six or seven months, if the pulse is wiry, there is fever, the sensation of fetal distension increases, and there is abdominal pain with aversion to cold, feeling as if the lower abdomen is being fanned by wind, this occurs because the Zi Zang (uterus) is open. Therefore, Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction) should be used to warm the uterus.
For pregnant women experiencing cramping pain in the abdomen, Danggui Shaoyao San (Angelica and Peony Powder) is the primary treatment.
During pregnancy, if urination is difficult but appetite remains normal, Danggui Beimu Kushen Wan (Angelica, Fritillaria, and Sophora Pill) is the primary treatment.
If a pregnant woman suffers from damaged fetus, presenting with abdominal fullness, inability to urinate, and heaviness from the waist down resembling edema, occurring at seven months of pregnancy when the Taiyin spleen should nourish the fetus but fails to do so due to excess Heart Qi, one should needle Laogong (PC 8) and Guanyuan (CV 4) using the reducing method. Recovery occurs when urination becomes slightly free.
For women who are deficient during lactation, presenting with mental restlessness and vomiting/acid reflux, Zhu Pi Da Wan (Bamboo Rind Large Pill) is used to calm the middle and boost Qi.
For postpartum diarrhea resulting in extreme deficiency, Baitouweng Jia Gancao Ejiao Tang (Peony Root Decoction plus Licorice and Donkey-Hide Gelatin) is the primary treatment.
For women with sinking meridians and continuous uterine bleeding that does not clear up and appears dark, Jiao Jiang Tang (Gelatin and Ginger Decoction) is the primary treatment.
To clear deficient heat from the five Zang organs, Sixiang Jiajian Chaihu Yinzi (Four-Season Modified Bupleurum Drink) is used.
To treat Shanghan (Cold Damage) ensuring recovery without recurrence, Zishi Hanshi San (Purple Stone Cold Food Powder) is prescribed.
Ancient medical formulas were transmitted only to worthy individuals; they were not spoken of to the unworthy. Thus, Bian Que and Cang Gong both referred to them as secret formulas, not lightly bestowed upon others, truly valuing them. Zhang Ji of the Later Han Dynasty wrote *Shanghan Zabing Lun* (Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases), establishing numerous formulas and making them public to the world. Before the Jian'an era, people suffered from the lack of formulas; after the Yuanfeng era, although official bureau formulas existed, they were chaotic and lacked clear guidance, serving no standard. Now, extensively collecting excellent formulas from *Jinkui Yaolue*, *Qianjin Yaofang*, *Waitai Miyao*, as well as those of Wang Haogu, Li Gao, Liu Wansu, Zhu Zhenheng, Zhang Congzheng, and Xue Ji, I have compiled them into this volume. However, formula commentary began with Cheng Wuji, and in recent times, scholars such as Wu Kun, Li Zhongzi, Ke Qin, and Wang Ang have contributed. Although each has made innovations regarding medical formulas, some selections may not be precise enough, and explanations insufficiently detailed. Therefore, I further deduced the intent behind the formulation, synthesized the essentials, deleted redundancy, supplemented omissions, and clarified the content, naming it *Shanbu Mingyi Fanglun* (Revised and Supplement Commentary on Famous Doctors' Formulas), to illuminate the path for future generations.
