(From *San Yin Fang*. Also known as Siqi Tang.)
Treats Qi stagnation due to the Seven Emotions, accumulation of phlegm and saliva, inability to expectorate or swallow, chest fullness with rapid breathing, coughing or vomiting, or attacking pain (The "Seven Qi" refers to cold, heat, joy, anger, worry, sorrow, and resentment. Diseases caused by the Seven Emotions lead to Qi knotting and phlegm gathering, preventing the normal ascending and descending of Yin and Yang, thus resulting in symptoms such as stuffiness, fullness, wheezing, coughing, and attacking pain).
Banxia (Stir-fried with ginger juice. 5 qian) Houpo (Stir-fried with ginger juice. 3 qian) Fuling (4 qian) Zisu (2 qian). Decoct with fresh ginger and jujube.
This is a formula acting on the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. When Qi stagnates, phlegm gathers; therefore, to dissipate stagnation, moving Qi and resolving phlegm must be prioritized. Banxia is acrid and warm, removing phlegm and opening stagnation; Houpo is bitter... [text missing/corrupt, context implies descending Qi].
Adding Baishao, Chenpi, Renshen, and Guixin to this formula also makes it called Qiqi Tang (*San Yin Fang*: Treats emotional knotting, reversal of Yin and Yang, alternating vomiting and diarrhea, alternating chills and fever, dizziness, stuffiness, and throat obstruction).
(From *Ju Fang*. Also known as Qiqi Tang.)
Treats Qi stagnation due to the Seven Emotions, accumulation of phlegm and saliva, deficiency-cold Qi rebelling upward; or severe colic in the heart and abdomen; or abdominal distension with rapid breathing (*Ling Shu* states: Disharmony of the stomach collaterals causes wheezing arising from the reversal of Yangming Qi upward; depletion of true Yuan leads to wheezing arising from the rushing upward of Kidney Qi).
Renshen Guanyuxia (Cinnamon Twig/Cortex) Banxia (1 qian) Gancao (0.5 qian). Decoct with fresh ginger. For heart and abdominal pain, add Yanhusuo (which promotes blood circulation to remove Qi stasis, and moves Qi to resolve blood stasis... [text truncated]).
This is a medicine acting on the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Li Shicai said: Excessive Seven Emotions all damage Qi; Danxi advocated using Yueju Wan as the primary treatment. The unique aspect of this formula lies in... [text missing]. Stagnation in the Lung is addressed by Guanyuxia to control the depression of deliberation (The Liver is the general officer, where deliberation originates. Prolonged stagnation leads to excessive Liver Fire; Cinnamon can calm the Liver; prolonged stagnation generates phlegm), which is expelled by Banxia; disharmony caused by stagnation is mediated by Guolao (Gancao); moreover, since Cinnamon is acrid and warm, it unblocks Qi very swiftly, allowing the stagnant to become harmonious and smooth again. The decoction is named "Siqi" because four ingredients treat diseases caused by the Seven Emotions (*Yuji Wei Yi* states: The classics say cold causes Qi contraction, suitable for acrid dispersal and sweet moderation; this treats Qi deficiency and cold...
