(Zhu Danxi)
Treats conditions of deficiency and exhaustion (Xu Lao) characterized by weak Qi and Blood, with fine and rapid pulses in all six positions.
Ziheche (Human Placenta, one piece), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried with wine), Guiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, roasted with酥/su until crisp, 3 liang), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex, stir-fried with ginger juice), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, soaked in wine, 2 liang), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 liang). In winter, add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 5 qian); in summer, add Chao Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, stir-fried, 1 liang). Make pills using a paste of rice wine. (This formula is the previous formula plus Chenpi and minus herbs for the Lung).
This acts on the Foot Shaoyin Kidney channel. Huangbai and Guiban are herbs that nourish the Kidney; Duzhong and Niuxi are herbs for the waist and knees. All serve to tonify the Kidney and strengthen Yin. Ziheche is also called "Hundun Pi" (Skin of Chaos); it uses Qi and Blood to tonify Qi and Blood, borrowing from the Acquired (Post-heaven) to assist the Innate (Pre-heaven), hence the name "Bu Tian" (Tonifying Heaven). The addition of Chenpi serves to regulate Qi while tonifying Blood.
Treats Lung Deficiency-Labor with Empty Heat. The Lung governs Qi, which is the root of the human body. If Lung Qi is deficient and Fire overacts upon it, it results in Lung Deficiency-Labor accompanied by fever, presenting with symptoms such as cough, hemoptysis, and lung atrophy (Fei Wei).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang), Tandong (Asparagi Radix, stir-fried), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, stir-fried), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 4 liang). Make honeyed pills.
This acts on the Hand Taiyin Lung channel and the Foot Shaoyin Kidney channel. The Lung governs Qi, but the root of Qi lies in the Dantian Kidney region. Therefore, the Lung and Kidney have a Mother-Child relationship. Water must control Fire so that Fire does not... [text incomplete] ...greatly tonify Qi and Blood.
Renshen powder, Renru Fen (Human Milk Powder), equal parts. Make honeyed pills. Method for obtaining milk powder: Take milk from a healthy young woman, pour a small amount into a silver or tin ladle... [text incomplete] ...dry and reduce to powder.
This acts on the Hand Taiyin Lung, Foot Taiyin Spleen, and Foot Jueyin Liver channels. Renshen greatly tonifies Yuan Qi. Renru is originally transformed from Blood; using it to mutually tonify Qi and Blood is truly a miraculous effect within simplicity.
The Preceptor Xuan of Zhongnan Mountain, due to mental exertion from chanting scriptures, dreamed that the Heavenly King bestowed this formula, hence the name.

Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 4 liang, washed with wine), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, stir-fried), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, stir-fried), Fuling (Poria, some formulas use Fushen), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, stir-fried...) [text incomplete], Jiuxi... [text incomplete], Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, some formulas include Shichangpu 4 qian (Shichangpu...) some formulas include Gancao).
This acts on the Hand Shaoyin Heart channel. Shengdihuang and Xuanshen are herbs of the North (Kidney Water); tonifying Water controls Fire, embodying the principle of Ji Ji (Water and Fire both present). Danshen and Danggui... [text incomplete] ...; The Lung is the canopy of the Heart and receives all vessels (all vessels converge on the Lung; tonifying the Lung generates Mai/Vessels, and Mai is Blood), thus causing Tian Qi (Heavenly Qi) to descend (When Heavenly Qi descends and Earthly Qi ascends, all things are born); Tiandong (Asparagi Radix) has a bitter taste entering the Heart and cold nature clearing Fire; together with Maidong, they are agents for nourishing Water sources and moistening dryness; Yuanzhi, Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), and Bairen (Pruni Semen) nourish the Heart Spirit; Zaoren and Wuweizi have sour flavors to astringe, thereby gathering the dissipating Heart Qi; Jiegeng clears the Lung and benefits the diaphragm, utilizing its property to carry medicinal properties upward to return to...
