Treats all conditions of excessive blood loss, withered form and emaciated limbs, inability to eat, intestinal slippage and diarrhea, and exhaustion of body fluids. Long-term use generates blood and boosts qi, warms the stomach, and preserves youthfulness.
Take fine sheep viscera (7 jin), remove fascia, fat, and skin, split open, and insert the following powdered medicines: Congrong (Cistanche Herba), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) [using moist ones] (10 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (12 liang). Take with warm wine. If difficult to swallow, make into pills. This is a formula for the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. Yu Jiayan said: "This formula can be said to excel in tonification." Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Lamb Meat share similar functions. The *Shi Ji* (Ten Categories of Medicines) states: "Tonification can remove weakness."
Descends Heart Fire, benefits Kidney Water, nourishes Yin and nourishes Blood, moistening without being drying.
Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (2 liang each), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) [stir-fried with wine] (3 liang), Sharen (Amomi Fructus) (1.5 liang), Gancao (Liquorice Root) [roasted] (7 qian). This is a formula for the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian, Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Tianmendong tonifies the Lung to generate Water; Renshen tonifies the Spleen and boosts Qi; Shudihuang tonifies the Kidney and nourishes Yin. Because the herbs bear the names of Heaven, Earth, and Man, and their tonifying effects are divided among the Upper, Middle, and Lower Jiao, allowing Heaven and Earth to establish positions and nurture life, with Ginseng acting as the central mediator, it is called "Sancai" (Three Powers). Yu Jiayan said: Adding Huangbai... [Text fragment]. Removing the last three ingredients from this formula and decocting them in equal parts yields the name "Sancai Tang," which treats Spleen-Lung deficiency consumptive cough. Removing the first three ingredients from this formula yields the name "Fengsui Dan" (Phoenix Marrow Pill) [from *Zhiyao*]: It treats Exuberant Heart Fire, insecure Kidney Essence, and prone seminal emission.
Treats deficiency damage and labor injury, cough with tidal fever. Deficiency damage is categorized into five levels: First damage affects the Lung, causing withered skin and falling hair; Second damage affects the Heart, causing depletion of blood; Third damage affects the Spleen, where food cannot transform into muscle/flesh; Fourth damage affects the Liver, causing flaccid sinews unable to hold themselves; Fifth damage affects the Kidney, causing bone atrophy and inability to rise from bed. The Five Labors refer to: Zhi Lao (Mental Labor), Si Lao (Overthinking), Xin Lao (Heart Labor), You Lao (Worry), Chou Si (Sorrowful Pondering)... [Text fragment].
Ziheche (Placenta Humana) (one unit), Baiguiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum) [soaked in child's urine for three days, stir-fried with butter until yellow] (2 liang), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) [stir-fried with salt and wine], Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) [stir-fried with butter], Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Fuling (Poria), Sharen (Amomi Fructus) [6 qian used together], Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [boiled in milk]. This is a formula for the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Ziheche is born from Qi and Blood, greatly tonifying both, serving as the Sovereign herb; Baoguiban receives the most complete Yin Qi, and Huangbai possesses the densest Yin Qi, nourishing Yin and supplementing Water, serving as the Minister herb; Duzhong moistens the Kidney and tonifies the waist (the waist is the mansion of the Kidney); Niu Xi strengthens sinews and bones; Dihuang nourishes Yin and retreats heat; combined with Fuling and Sharen, it enters the Shaoyin meridian to benefit Kidney Essence; Er Dong (Tianmendong and Maidong) descends fire and clears Metal; combined with Renshen and Wuweizi, it generates the Pulse and tonifies Lung Qi. The general principle is... [Text fragment]
