The pathogenesis of the Three Yang meridians involves Qi stagnation, which subsequently manifests as alternating chills and fever (Han Re), abscesses and swellings in the lower body, as well as Wei syndrome (Flaccidity Syndrome) and Jue syndrome (Cold Extremities).
When the meridians of the Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Bladder (representing the Yang system) become obstructed, it is termed "Ge" disease (Obstruction/Interruption).
The pathology of the Two Yang meridians originates in the Heart and Spleen; in men, it presents with scanty essence (Shao Jing), and in women, amenorrhea (Bu Yue).
Obstruction of the Hand-Yangming and Foot-Yangming meridians constitutes "Two Yang Obstruction," leading to Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst). If the pathogen affects the Heart, blood flow becomes stagnant; if it affects the Spleen, the transformation and transportation of food flavors fails.
When One Yang (Shaoyang) is affected, symptoms include shortness of breath (Shao Qi), cough (Sou), and diarrhea (Xie).
Obstruction of the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) meridian causes cough when affecting the upper jiao and diarrhea when affecting the lower jiao.
Restlessness of Heart Fire manifests as twitching or pulling sensations (Che).
Heart involvement leads to palpitations, stabbing pain in the chest, Qi stagnation and fullness, manifesting upward as cough and downward as diarrhea.
Simultaneous cold invasion of the Three Yin meridians disrupts Qi transformation into fluids, resulting in Wei Yi (flaccidity and weakness) and insufficiency, with inability to move the four limbs.
This indicates pathological changes in the meridians of the Spleen, Lung, and Liver.
Pathology involving Two Yin (Shaoyin) and One Yang (Shaoyang) presents with abdominal distension and frequent belching.
This occurs due to the reversal of Qi in the meridians of the Heart, Kidney, and Gallbladder, causing deficiency below and excess above.
Pathology involving Two Yang (Yangming) and One Yin (Jueyin) presents as Feng Jue (Wind Jue).
This results from pathological changes in the meridians of the Liver, Gallbladder, and Pericardium.
Yang obstruction at the exterior manifests as limb swelling.
When all Yang meridians fail to circulate properly, heat accumulates in the Yin regions, causing swelling and fullness of the four limbs.
Yin obstruction manifests as hematochezia (blood in stool).
Internal stagnation of Yin Qi prevents its smooth circulation; without the control of Qi and Blood, blood leaks into the intestines, causing lower bleeding.
Deficiency of Ying (Nutrient) Qi and Cold of Wei (Defensive) Qi lead to Rou Ke (muscular numbness and heaviness).
Kidney deficiency causing coldness of the body is named Gu Bi (Bone Bi). Numbness characterizes Rou Ke, while lower back pain characterizes Gu Bi.
Blood deficiency leads to relative Qi excess, causing muscular numbness and a sensation of heaviness. In cases of Kidney deficiency, invasion by Wind-Cold-Dampness causes joint contraction and lower back pain. The patient feels cold internally; even thick clothing or hot applications cannot warm the body. This is due to the depletion of Kidney Essence (Zhi), failing to nourish, resulting in deficiency and coldness of the body.
