After one month, the body recovered its vitality.
An elderly man developed a spring-warmth disease (Spring Warmth Disease). On the second day, he exhibited coma and delirious speech, with symptoms fluctuating in severity. His pulse showed one stop every ten beats or one stop every twenty beats. All physicians declined treatment, stating it was incurable. This was due to the elderly man's deficient righteous qi (Zheng Qi), which could not resist the pathogenic factor. After one hou (seven days), the pathogen receded, the righteous qi returned, and he recovered spontaneously.
A person fell ill due to food stagnation. His pulse showed one stop every seven beats, which is considered incurable according to medical principles. On the eighth day, macules and papules appeared, and he recovered. This occurred because wind-heat had been latent early on; combined with food stagnation causing further blockage, it was difficult for the pathogen to reach the exterior. Hence, he presented with lethargy and reluctance to speak. After one hou, the meridians had circulated fully, and the symptoms manifested.
An elderly woman frequently suffered from headaches radiating to the brain and nose, with foul-smelling nasal discharge. This is "Dan Re Yi Yu Nao" (Gallbladder Heat Transferring to the Brain), where heat scalds and consumes yin fluids, leading to leakage downwards. It is named "Bi Yuan" (Nasal Sinusitis/Ozena). The treatment should employ clearing heat and penetrating the brain. She was given Xinyi (Flos Magnoliae Biondii), Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae), Huoxiang (Herba Pogostemonis), Can'erzi (Fructus Xanthii), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Sheng Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Zhu Danzhi (Bilis Porci). After eight doses, the illness was cured.
A person suffered from dull pain and ulceration of the upper and lower gums, with a slow and fine pulse. This is "Yin Xu Fu Huo Shang Yan" (Deficient Yin with Floating Fire Ascending). He was treated with Shudi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis), Fuling (Poria), Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi), Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), and Yurou (Fructus Corni). After eight doses, he recovered completely. Deficient fire is like lightning in rain; it dissipates upon seeing sunlight. Adding Rougui to Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) guides the fire back to its source, akin to lightning meeting sunlight. If bitter-cold herbs are used, yin-cold will flourish, worsening the condition.
A person suddenly grew fleshy protrusions between his teeth, extending out of the mouth, named "Sui Yi" (Marrow Overflow). First, a heated iron cautery tool was used to cauterize them flat. Internally, he was given Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Congrong (Herba Cistanches), Gusuibu (Radix Dendrobii), Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Yurou (Fructus Corni), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae), Xianyu Jiao (Colla Piscis Lineata), Huainiuqi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Guiban (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis), and Zhujing Sui (Medulla Ossis Femoris Porci). After twelve doses, there was no recurrence.
A person suffered from tongue swelling and stiffness, making speech difficult and causing swelling pain that prevented drinking soup or water. This is "Zi She Zhang" (Purple Tongue Swelling). A point on the center of the tongue was pricked with a knife to bleed. Sanhuang Tang (Three-Yellow Decoction) was administered. After three doses, the swelling subsided.
A woman suffered from severe malaria, which dragged on until her body became deficient. According to medical principles, she should have been tonified with Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction). However, after taking it, she fainted. Upon inquiry, it was found that she could not tolerate any tonics; only astringent or draining medicines allowed her to recover. This indicates a unique constitutional difference.
A woman presented with absent pulses in all six positions whenever she fell ill. Her pulses gradually reappeared as the disease receded. She was constitutionally weak and unable to "carry" the pathogen, causing the pulse to sink and hide. In such cases, treating the disease directly is necessary without relying solely on pulse diagnosis.
A woman was working in the fields at the end of summer when intense heat rose. She contracted damp-toxicity from manure and wet soil on both feet, resulting in redness, swelling, rotting, unbearable pain, and itching. She constantly wanted to rub her feet with her hands, spreading the toxicity to her hands. If she then touched objects to eat, the toxicity would invade the throat system, causing immediate coughing and wheezing. Decocted sugarcane and garlic were effective. However, cough caused by manure toxicity, if untreated, is fatal.
A pregnant woman suffered from severe headache due to damp-heat rushing upward. Acupoints Fengchi (GB20) and Taiyang (EX-HN5) were needled bilaterally, reducing pain slightly. Her pulse was surging and rapid. She was prescribed Longdancao (Radix Gentianae), Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis), Xiakucao (Herba Prunellae), Baiju (Flos Chrysanthemi Indici), Huashi (Talcum), Shanzhi (Fructus Gardeniae), Sangye (Folium Mori), Yangping Pian (Laminar Cutis Caprae Hirci), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae). After four doses, there was no recurrence.
A pregnant woman contracted summerheat and sha (sand) syndrome in June. She mistakenly drank ginger soup, causing incessant abdominal pain. (Sha syndrome contraindicates ginger, especially in summer.) Decocted Wangguapi (Pericarpium Trichosanthis) was drunk, and acupoints for sha syndrome were needled. Pain stopped immediately, and she recovered.
An elderly man had long-standing yin injury, causing ministerial fire to surge uncontrollably. His penis skin broke, bleeding and causing severe pain. Pearl Powder (Zhenzhu San) was applied externally. Internally, he took Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Chuanbai (Cortex Phellodendri), Sheng Shouwu (Radix Polygoni Multiflori Preparata), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Guiban (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis), Nvzhenzi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi), and Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis). After twenty doses, the wound gradually healed.
A woman suffered from abdominal pain radiating to the yin region continuously. Methods such as warming and unblocking, regulating qi, removing blood stasis, killing parasites, liver-pacifying acupuncture, etc., were ineffective. This was Zangjie Syndrome (Organ Knotting), and she died suddenly after a few days.
An elderly woman suffered from biting pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, with unceasing diarrhea day and night. Various treatments failed. This was also Zangjie Syndrome, so the pain never ceased, and she died within ten days.
An elderly woman’s left buttock swelled rapidly after being pricked. The pain resembled Liuzhu (Flowing Abscess), and she cried out day and night. Physicians were helpless, and she died over a month later. This injured the "Renshen" (Human Spirit). What is Renshen? It is the source where qi and blood converge in the human body.
A farmer experienced board-like epigastric pain after labor, which eased slightly after eating. This is Middle Deficiency, where labor makes qi movement difficult, causing pain. He was given Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandoniae), Cao Kou (Fructus Amomi Rotundus), Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens), and Wuyu (Fructus Evodiae). After six doses, pain stopped, but root cure was difficult.
After intercourse, a man with empty marrow and deficient yang went fishing in water. Yin-cold entered the Three Yin meridians directly. He suffered whole-body pulling pain with no fixed timing, as meridians were blocked by cold. Pulses were deep and hidden. Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction) plus Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) was given, but ineffective. He died after three days.
A woman developed a Ding (carbuncle) on her cheekbone. Swelling spread to the face like a bowl, with pain, coma, and critical condition. Dingdu Fusheng Tang (Ding-Toxin Reviving Decoction) was ineffective. One qian (3g) of Hupo (Resina Succini) was added. Pain stopped, and swelling receded.
A person had hard swelling on the right cheekbone with normal skin color, not suppurating for over ten days. This is Fengre Shang Yong (Wind-Heat Obstructing Upward), named Quan Yang (Cheek Ulcer), which is chronic. Niuzi (Fructus Arctii), Bohe (Herba Menthae), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) were given. Cooling Powder (Qingliang San) was applied externally, and it gradually receded.

Bohe (Herba Menthae), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae), Maidong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Sheng Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Pian Qin (Scutellariae Radix) were given. After three doses, all symptoms disappeared.
A woman had an abscess on the outer ankle, discharging pus for five years without healing. It perforated through bone gaps, leaving a small hole leaking fluid, preventing medication entry. It eventually became an incurable chronic disease.
A child fell and tore the upper lip. Shengji San (Flesh-Regenerating Powder) was applied. The lip was tightly bound with cotton tape and tied behind the ear, changed every four days. Only thin porridge was consumed; speaking and laughing were forbidden. After one month of quiet rest, it healed.
A person suddenly had sore throat without swelling. Pain radiated to below the ears, unbearable, with aversion to cold and high fever. Nothing could be swallowed. He died from Wu Chu to Shen Ke (11 AM to 5 PM). This is Feng Xie Bi Man Fei Luo (Wind Pathogen Blocking Lung Collaterals), with a hurried and urgent pulse, known as Jin Hou Feng (Tight Throat Wind).
A person’s throat was neither swollen nor painful, but sudden phlegm obstruction made breathing difficult. No medicine could enter. The *Neijing* states that the binding of one yin and one yang causes Hou Bi (Throat Bi). He died after three days.
A woman had Liuzhu (Flowing Abscess) on the inner thigh. Improper treatment led to suppuration after more than a year, each time yielding a bowlful of pus. Six years passed without closure. Bone gaps were eroded, preventing drug access. Muscles floated emptily; slight activity caused swelling. Treatments failed.
An elderly woman had multiple Liuzhu. Cauterization with fire needles caused no pain, indicating dead muscle. Treatment was refused; she died two days later.
A young boy had Liuzhu on the leg, treated for over ten years before healing. In adulthood, entering water in summer allowed damp-cold to invade the Three Yin. Old sites hurt secretly. Two months later, only clear fluid discharged (due to long-term muscle deficiency, no thick pus). Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Qianshi (Semen Nelumbinis), Lianzi (Semen Nelumbinis), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) were mixed with roasted old yellow rice powder and brown sugar to tonify righteous qi. He recovered in over four months but relapsed after marriage (which drains essence) and swimming again. Treatments failed, and he died. (For long illnesses with deficiency, abstinence is crucial.)
A person infected with venereal toxins years ago developed a deficiency disease. Venereal toxins flared up. The glans penis grew flower-like fungal masses, ten or more in number. Each was ligated with medicinal thread, tightened daily until falling off. Shengji San (Flesh-Regenerating Powder) was applied, and he recovered.
A woman with prolonged severe malaria became emaciated and spleen-deficient. Overwork caused sudden bleeding from mouth and nose. This is Spleen Deficiency failing to control blood, overflowing into clear passages. Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Yuzhu (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati), Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Fushen (Poria cum Radix Pini), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae) were given. Bleeding stopped after two doses. Tooth bleeding caused by this has the same formula.
A girl fell and hit her head. Swelling from head to forehead was soft as cotton, due to qi stagnation and blood stasis. Huoluo Gaoyao (Meridian-Activating Plaster) was applied, and it resolved spontaneously.
A child fell, breaking eyelashes and bleeding. Not cleaned properly, eyelashes fused together with one opening for light. The seam was cut with a knife, bleeding stopped, and vision restored. However, the eyeball remained closed for over a year with nebula formation, difficult to remove.
A girl fell on her forehead. Untreated initially, pus covered her face for months, forming hollow crusts and continuous dirty discharge. Jiangtiao (Draining Strips) were inserted to drain toxin, and Shengji San (Flesh-Regenerating Powder) was applied. She recovered.
An elderly woman had a nasal polyp obstructing passage. It was pierced first to allow drug absorption. Then, cotton soaked in Naosha San (Realgar Powder) was stuffed in, followed by tight cotton packing. Changed every five days until dissolved. Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Yuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Huafen (Radix Platycodonis), Tiao Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma) were taken to prevent facial inflammation.
An elderly man with surface deficiency and weak blood lacked nourishment for tendons. He felt a stream of qi traveling from the sole of the left foot to the chest and ribs, causing suffocating distension. It moved to the top of the head, then to the right chest/ribs, then to the sole of the right foot, stopping with relief. This happened several times daily, causing great suffering. Shenyang Tang (Kidney Qi Decoction) plus qi-regulating herbs were taken for thirty doses. Then, Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae), Dangshen (Radix Codonopsis), Huangqi (Radix Astragali), Gouqi (Fructus Lycii), Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae), Bajitian (Radix Morindae Officinalis), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Huainiuqi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Haitongpi (Cortex Erythrinae), Chuanduan (Radix Drynariae), Putaorou (Sarcotesta Juglandis Mandshuricae), Poguzhi (Fructus Psoraleae), Maoji (Spina Dorsi Canis), Wujia Pi (Cortex Acanthopanacis) were decocted in aged wine for the duration of burning one incense stick. Taken for four months, everything normalized.

A man had an incompletely healed Liuzhu on the left rib. Falling during travel injured the wound, causing uncontrollable bleeding. Running increased floating fire, disrupting meridians and forcing blood out. Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) stopped bleeding immediately upon ingestion.
A woman with middle deficiency and abundant phlegm had phlegm flowing along meridians throughout the body, condensing into soft, non-tender lumps resembling tumors. She was paralyzed for over a year. Chuanbeimu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae) and aged wine were decocted together. She gradually regained mobility. (When qi and blood are strong, phlegm transforms to blood; when weak, blood transforms to phlegm.)
A child injured the middle by labor, causing spleen qi stagnation, transforming into heat and phlegm, condensing under the tongue as a Phlegm Bao (Phlegm Sac) on the left. Swelling made speech and eating difficult. Gelatinous phlegm was drained with a knife. Chen Jiangtiao (Old Draining Strip) was inserted to dissolve roots. Swelling did not recur.
An elderly woman had painful swelling of the vulva, inability to urinate or defecate, and refusal to eat. Damp-heat poured into Bladder and Small Intestine, threatening Beng Ju (Clam Abscess). Longdan Tang (Gentian Decoction) plus damp-draining herbs were given. After three doses, it ruptured, pouring out a basin of purple blood. Qingliang San (Cooling Powder) was applied externally. Five more doses of the internal formula cured her.

Distension resolved quickly.
A child had egg stagnation, causing a plum-sized lump in the epigastrium, poor appetite, and emaciation for nearly ten years. The lump was lifted manually away from the inner membrane to protect organs. Needling and moxibustion were applied gently. Huaji Fang (Stagnation-Dissolving Formula) was taken. Needling every ten days cleared the root in one month.
A woman had an epigastric abscess not rupturing for a month. She lay stiffly with poor appetite. A fine fire needle was used to prick gently while lying on her side to avoid damaging the inner membrane. Medicinal wicks extracted pus, curing her. (Direct stabbing is dangerous.)
An elderly woman had Hou'e (Throat Tonsil) with much pus. Overwork damaged lung qi, causing hoarseness and silence without other discomfort. Bird's nest soup was taken in the morning to tonify. Yitu Shengjin Fang (Earth-Generating Metal Formula) was taken at night for over ten days. Voice recovered clearly.
A person with Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder) vomited and purged for three days. Middle qi exhausted, yin and yang reversed. Stool exited via mouth. Stomach bottom inverted. Limbs cold, restless. Died on the seventh day.

Tendons were pricked with little bleeding. Pinggan Liqi Fang (Liver-Pacifying Qi-Regulating Formula) loosened it after several doses.
An elderly man with Dabe (back carbuncle) showed Dai Mai (Knotted Pulse) after rupture. Due to excessive loss of pus and qi, connection was broken. Shiquan Dabu Tang (Perfect Ten Tonifying Decoction) was given for ten days. External pulse normalized, wound closed. Suddenly, legs became flaccid and immobile. Continued tonification for twenty days restored strength.
A person had over ten phlegm nodules on the neck. Fire needles cauterized to unblock knots.
