**Jing Mai Fa Hui, Volume II: Points Where the Qi of the Fourteen Meridians Manifests**
**Song for the Points of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian:**
Zhongfu (LU1), Yunmen (LU2), Tianfu (LU3) are listed.
Xiabai (LU4), Chize (LU5), Kongzui (LU6) remain.
Lieque (LU7), Jingqu (LU8), Taiyuan (LU9) are traversed.
Yuji (LU10), Shaoshang (LU11) are like the leaf of a leek.
The Hand-Taiyin is the meridian of the Lung. It has eleven points in total, twenty-two on both sides. ○ This meridian is abundant in Qi and deficient in Blood. The Lung as an organ: it has six lobes and two auricles, hanging down like a canopy, attached to the middle of the third thoracic vertebra. It has twenty-four openings, arranged in rows to distribute the clear and turbid Qi of the five Zang organs, hence called the "Canopy of the Five Zang."
The pathway of the Hand-Taiyin meridian originates in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), descends to connect with the Large Intestine, returns to follow the stomach opening, ascends through the diaphragm, and attaches to the Lung. "Originates" means to arise; "connect" means to surround; "return" means to go back; "follow" means to patrol or adhere to; "attach" means to converge. The Middle Jiao is located in the stomach, approximately four cun above the umbilicus. The Large Intestine is described in this chapter. The stomach opening refers to the upper and lower mouths of the stomach. The upper mouth is at the Shangwan (CV13) point, five cun above the umbilicus. The lower mouth is at the Xiawan (CV10) point, two cun above the umbilicus. The diaphragm acts as a barrier; generally, there is a diaphragmatic membrane in the heart below that connects around the spine and ribs, serving to block turbid Qi from ascending to fumigate the Heart and Lung. The Hand-Taiyin originates in the Middle Jiao: it receives the intersection of the Foot-Jueyin Liver meridian, then runs along the lateral side of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), medial to the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney meridian, descending sequentially to the Shuifen (CV9) point, one cun above the umbilicus, surrounding and connecting with the Large Intestine; the Hand-Taiyin Lung and Hand-Yangming Large Intestine are exterior-interior pairs. It then proceeds along the lateral side of its own meridian, follows the upper stomach opening, winds upward through the diaphragm to converge and attach to the Lung, where Ying (Nutrient) Qi returns to its home organ.
From the lung system (trachea/larynx), it emerges horizontally into the axilla, descends along the medial aspect of the arm, running anterior to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart and Hand-Jueyin Pericardium meridians, and descends to the elbow center. The lung system refers to the larynx/trachea; the throat monitors Qi and connects downward to the Lung. The area below the shoulder and above the armpit is the axilla. The part of the arm opposite the armpit is the nao (upper arm). The end of the nao is the elbow, the joint of the arm. From the lung organ, following the lung system, it emerges horizontally, passing through Zhongfu (LU1) and Yunmen (LU2) in the fourth row of the chest, emerging into the axilla, descending along the medial aspect of the nao, passing Tianfu (LU3) and Xiabai (LU4), running anterior to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart and Hand-Jueyin Pericardium meridians, descending into the elbow center, reaching Chize (LU5). Generally, the Hand-Shaoyin runs along the arm, emerging between the little finger and ring finger.

Following the medial aspect of the arm up to the lower edge of the radius, entering the Cun Kou (radial pulse) above the Thenar eminence, following the Yu Ji (edge of the fish), emerging at the tip of the thumb. The forearm is below the elbow. Lian refers to the corner or edge. Beside the high bone at the back of the palm, the artery is Guan. The artery before Guan is Cun Kou. "Fish" and "Yu Ji" refer to the fleshy prominence anterior to the metacarpal bone and posterior to the proximal phalanx of the thumb, collectively called the Fish. Yu Ji is the name of the point within it. Having descended to the elbow center, it follows the medial aspect of the arm, along the lower edge of the radius, passing Kongzui (LU6) and Lieque (LU7), entering the Jingqu (LU8) and Taiyuan (LU9) of the Cun Kou to ascend to the Yu Ji, following the Yu Ji to emerge at the tip of the thumb, ending at Shaoshang (LU11). Tip refers to the extremity. ○ Kongzui (LU6): Seven cun above the wrist. Lieque (LU7): One cun and five fen above the radial styloid process on the lateral side; cross hands, the point is in the gap between tendons at the tip of the index finger. It is the Luo-Connecting point. Jingqu (LU8): In the depression at the Cun Kou. Taiyuan (LU9): In the depression behind the palm. Yuji (LU10): In the anterior pulse medial to the proximal phalanx of the thumb. Shaoshang (LU11): On the medial side of the tip of the thumb, about the width of a leek leaf from the nail, in the depression of the white flesh.
Its branch goes straight from behind the wrist to the medial side of the index finger, emerging at its tip. The end of the arm bone is the wrist. The main channel of the vessel is the Jing (Standard) meridian. Intersecting vessels are Luo (Collateral) vessels. This meridian ends at the tip of the thumb; this branch goes from the Lieque point behind the wrist, reaches the medial side of the index finger and emerges at its tip, intersecting with the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine meridian.
Diseases caused by movement of the meridian: Lung distension and fullness, bloating and wheezing, pain in the supraclavicular fossa, and in severe cases, crossing both hands over the chest and experiencing visual confusion, known as Bi Jue (Arm Jue). Diseases governed by the Lung: Cough, asthma, thirst, irritability, chest fullness, pain along the anterior medial aspect of the arm, and heat in the palm. Excess conditions: Shoulder and back pain, aversion to wind-cold, sweating, stroke, frequent urination with small volume. Deficiency conditions: Shoulder and back pain, cold sensation, shortness of breath, change in urine color, sudden incontinence. Excess: The Cun Kou pulse is three times larger than the Ying Chong pulse. Deficiency: The Cun Kou pulse is smaller than the Ying Chong pulse.

Foot-Taiyin is the meridian of the Spleen. It has twenty-one points in total, forty-two on both sides. ○ This meridian is abundant in Qi and deficient in Blood. The Spleen is three cun wide, five cun long, covering the Tai Cang (Stomach), attached to the eleventh thoracic vertebra.
The pathway of the Foot-Taiyin meridian originates at the tip of the big toe, follows the medial white flesh edge of the toe, passes posterior to the nuclear bone, and ascends to the anterior edge of the medial malleolus. Nuclear bone, also written as He Gu, commonly called the ankle bone. The bone rising on both sides behind the heel is the malleolus. Foot-Taiyin originates at Yinbai (SP1) at the tip of the big toe, receiving the intersection of the Foot-Yangming Stomach meridian. Following the medial white flesh edge of the big toe through Dabu (SP2), passing posterior to the nuclear bone, passing Taibai (SP3), Gongsun (SP4), Shangqiu (SP5), ascending to Sanyinjiao (SP6) at the anterior edge of the medial malleolus. ○ Yinbai: At the medial tip of the big toe, about the width of a leek leaf from the nail corner. Dabu: In the depression posterior to the proximal phalanx of the big toe. Taibai: In the depression below the nuclear bone on the medial side of the foot. Gongsun: One cun posterior to the proximal phalanx of the big toe; diverges to Yangming. Shangqiu: In the slight anterior depression below the medial malleolus. Sanyinjiao: Three cun above the medial malleolus, in the depression below the bone.
Ascending the medial calf, following the posterior edge of the tibia, crossing anterior to the Foot-Jueyin Liver meridian. Fei refers to the gastrocnemius. From Sanyinjiao ascending the medial calf, following Lougu (SP7) posterior to the tibia, ascending two cun, crossing anterior to the Foot-Jueyin meridian, reaching Dijji (SP8) and Yinlingquan (SP9). ○ Lougu: Six cun above the medial malleolus, in the depression below the bone. Dijji: Five cun below the knee. Yinlingquan: Medial side below the knee, in the depression below the accessory bone; take with leg extended.
