论曰，咽喉卒肿痛者，脾肺暴热，胸膈壅滞，上攻咽喉，故发肿痛也，亦有服饵丹石过
度，毒瓦斯在胃，多嗜五辛酒面，冲于脾肺，皆致斯疾，源虽不同，其为热则一。
治咽喉卒肿痛。龙脑散方
龙脑（研一分） 犀角（镑） 丹砂（研） 白药子（各三分） 真珠（研） 黄 （锉）
甘草
（炙各半两） 牙硝（研一两）
上八味，捣研为散，拌匀再罗，每服二钱匕，新汲水调下，不拘时候。
治风热毒瓦斯，攻咽喉卒肿痛，头面肿。涂敷方
杏仁（汤浸去皮尖双仁半两） 鸡子（一枚去壳）
上二味，同研匀，敷肿处即消，若浓黄汁出者，醋调伏龙肝涂之。
治咽喉卒肿痛，不下食方
薤根（一把切）
上一味，炒至焦捣烂，于肿处贴，以帛子系之。

附子（半枚生捣）
上一味，细罗为散，入竹管内，吹入喉中。

生地龙（十四枚）
上一味，烂捣涂喉外，以帛系之，兼治痈发喉中。

上搅令黄白匀服之。

上一味，以苦酒和，涂喉外肿处。

上一味，以水一大盏，煮取七分，去滓含咽，一方用豉。

上一味，捣罗为散，绵裹一钱，放舌下，咽津即瘥。
治咽喉卒肿痛，不下食方
白矾（少许）
上一味，研碎，以绵裹含，咽津即瘥。
治上焦壅热，咽喉卒肿疼痛不利。恶实散方
恶实（微炒令香一两） 甘草（炙一分） 荆芥（去梗半两）
上三味，捣罗为细散，每服二钱匕，水五分一盏，煎令沸温服，沸汤点服亦得。
论述说，咽喉突然发生肿痛，是由于脾肺遭受暴热，胸膈部位气机壅滞，热气向上攻冲咽喉，从而引发肿痛。也有因服用丹石类药物过度，导致毒瓦斯滞留于胃中，或者过多嗜好辛辣、酒类、面食等食物，这些邪气冲击脾肺，都会导致这种疾病。虽然病因来源不同，但其本质均为热证。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛的龙脑散方：
龙脑（研磨一分） 犀角（镑片） 丹砂（研磨） 白药子（各三分） 真珠（研磨） 黄芩（锉碎） 甘草（炙制，各半两） 牙硝（研磨一两）
以上八味药，捣碎研磨成散剂，搅拌均匀后再次过筛。每次服用二钱匕，用新汲取的冷水调服，不限定具体时间。
治疗风热毒瓦斯攻冲咽喉导致突然肿痛，以及头面部肿胀的外敷方：
杏仁（热水浸泡，去皮尖及双仁，半两） 鸡蛋（一枚，去壳）
以上两味药，共同研磨均匀，涂抹于肿胀处即可消退；如果流出浓稠的黄水，则用醋调和伏龙肝涂抹患处。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
薤根（一把，切碎）
以上一味药，炒至焦黑后捣烂，贴敷在肿胀处，并用布带系紧固定。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
附子（半枚，生用捣碎）
以上一味药，细筛为散剂，装入竹管内，吹入喉中。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
地龙（即蚯蚓，十四条）
以上一味药，捣烂后涂于喉外，并用布带系紧固定，同时也可治疗喉中痈肿。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
鸡蛋（一枚，去壳）
以上一味药，搅匀使蛋黄蛋清混合均匀后服用。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
白面（数量不限）
以上一味药，用苦酒（醋）调和，涂抹于喉外肿胀处。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
大豆（一合）
以上一味药，用水一大盏，煮取七分水量，去渣后含咽药汁。另一版本使用豆豉。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
桂枝（去掉粗皮，半两）
以上一味药，捣碎过筛为散剂，用棉布包裹一钱，放于舌下，吞咽津液即可痊愈。
治疗咽喉突然肿痛，无法进食的方剂：
白矾（少许）
以上一味药，研磨碎，用棉布包裹含在口中，吞咽津液即可痊愈。
治疗上焦壅滞之热，咽喉突然肿胀疼痛不利索的恶实散方：
牛蒡子（微炒至香，一两） 甘草（炙制，一分） 荆芥（去掉梗，半两）
以上三味药，捣碎过筛为细散剂。每次服用二钱匕，用水五分一盏，煎至沸腾，温服；也可以用沸水冲泡服用。
Discussion states that sudden swelling and pain of the throat (Yanhou) result from sudden heat in the Spleen and Lung, stagnation in the chest and diaphragm, with pathogenic factors attacking upward to the throat. It may also be caused by excessive intake of cinnabar and realgar pills (Danshi), leading to toxic fumes retained in the Stomach, or by excessive consumption of pungent spices, alcohol, and wheat products, which attack the Spleen and Lung. Although the origins differ, the nature of the pathology is essentially Heat.
Formula for Longna San (Borneol Powder) to treat sudden throat swelling and pain:
Longna (Borneolum Syntheticum, ground, 1 fen) Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved) Dansha (Cinnabaris, ground) Baiyaizi (Stemonae Radix, each 3 fen) Zhenzhu (Margarita, ground) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, chopped) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, processed with honey, each 0.5 liang) Yanxiao (Natrii Sulfas, ground, 1 liang).
The above eight ingredients are crushed, ground into powder, mixed evenly, and sieved again. Take 2 qianbi per dose, mixed with fresh cold water, at any time.
External application formula to treat wind-heat toxic fumes attacking the throat causing sudden swelling and pain, and facial swelling:
Xingren (Prunus armeniaca Seed, soaked in hot water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel selected, 0.5 liang) Jizi (Galli Ovum Shell, one egg, shell removed).
The above two ingredients are ground together until uniform and applied to the swollen area to reduce swelling. If thick yellow exudate appears, mix Fulonggan (Caos Tergite) with vinegar and apply.
Formula to treat sudden throat swelling and pain with difficulty swallowing:
Xiegen (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, one handful, cut).
The above single ingredient is stir-fried until charred, pounded into a paste, applied to the swollen area, and secured with a cloth bandage.
Formula to treat sudden throat swelling and pain with difficulty swallowing:
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, half a piece, raw and pounded).
The above single ingredient is finely sieved into powder, placed in a bamboo tube, and insufflated into the throat.

Dilong (Pheretima, fourteen pieces).
The above single ingredient is pounded into a paste and applied externally to the throat, secured with a cloth bandage. This also treats carbuncles developing within the throat.

Jizi (Galli Ovum Shell, one egg, shell removed).
The above single ingredient is beaten until the yolk and white are uniformly mixed, then ingested.

The above single ingredient is mixed with Kujiu (Vinegar) and applied to the external swollen area of the throat.

Dadou (Sojae Semen Preparatum, one he).
The above single ingredient is boiled in one large cup of water until reduced to seven-tenths volume. Strain and hold in the mouth to swallow. An alternative version uses Chidou (Fermented Sojae Semen).

Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, coarse bark removed, 0.5 liang).
The above single ingredient is crushed and sieved into powder. Wrap 1 qian in cotton, place under the tongue, and swallow saliva to achieve recovery.
Formula to treat sudden throat swelling and pain with difficulty swallowing:
Baifan (Alumen, a small amount).
The above single ingredient is ground into fragments, wrapped in cotton, held in the mouth, and swallow saliva to achieve recovery.
Formula for Eshi San (Arctii Fructus Powder) to treat upper jiao heat obstruction, sudden throat swelling, pain, and dysphagia:
Eshi (Arctii Fructus, lightly stir-fried until fragrant, 1 liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, processed with honey, 1 fen) Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica, stems removed, 0.5 liang).
The above three ingredients are crushed and sieved into fine powder. Take 2 qianbi per dose, boil in half a cup of water until boiling, and take warm. Alternatively, it can be prepared with boiling water.
