It is stated in the discussion: The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) records, "The Zang-True Qi resides highest in the Lung," and further states, "When True Qi is depleted, deficiency ensues." Currently, cold in the Lung causes insufficiency of the Lung's True Qi, leading to weakness in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner). Due to this deficiency, there is an inability to control the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), resulting in Lung萎 (Lung Flaccidity Syndrome) above and frequent urination below. This may even manifest as spitting of saliva and froth accompanied by a desire to cough but an inability to do so; all these are symptomatic manifestations of this condition. The treatment principle should be to harmonize using warm herbs.
For treating Lung Flaccidity Syndrome with frequent urination, where severe cases involve spitting of saliva and froth and a desire to cough but inability to do so, use Bai Fu Ling Tang (White Poria Decoction): Bai Fu Ling (Poria, *Polyporus umbellatus*) [remove black skin], Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) [remove coarse bark], Fu Zi (Aconite Root, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*) [process until cracked, remove skin and navel], Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Alba*) [each 3 fen], Bu Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit, *Psoraleae Fructus*) [stir-fry], Huang Qi (Astragalus Root, *Astragali Radix*) [crush, each 1 liang], Shu Jiao (Sichuan Pepper, *Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*) [remove eyes and closed ones, stir-fry, 40 grains], Rou Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem, *Cistanches Herba*) [soak in wine, slice, dry-roast, 1.5 liang].
The above eight ingredients are crushed like hemp or bean seeds. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, decocted in one zhan of water until reduced to 7/10 volume. Strain and take warm, before meals and before retiring, three times daily.
For treating Lung Flaccidity Syndrome with spitting of saliva and froth, desire to cough but inability to do so, and frequent urination, use Gan Cao Gan Jiang Tang (Licorice and Dried Ginger Decoction): Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle*) [4 liang], Pao Gan Jiang (Processed Dried Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma干燥*) [2 liang].
The above two ingredients are crushed like hemp or bean seeds. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, decocted in one zhan of water until reduced to 7/10 volume. Strain and take warm. After taking, apply slight warmth to induce mild sweating. If thirst occurs, it belongs to Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst Syndrome).
For treating Lung Flaccidity Syndrome with excessive saliva and sputum, and frequent urination, use San Wei Tang (Three-Ingredient Decoction): Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle*) [4 liang], Pao Gan Jiang (Processed Dried Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma干燥*) [2 liang], Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Alba*) [2 liang].
The above three ingredients are crushed like hemp or bean seeds. Each dose consists of 5 qian bi, decocted in 1.5 zhan of water until reduced to 1 zhan volume. Strain and take warm.
For treating Lung Flaccidity Syndrome with frequent urination, weakness, and loss of appetite, use Huang Qi Tang (Astragalus Decoction): Huang Qi (Astragalus Root, *Astragali Radix*) [crush], Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root, *Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata*) [dry-roast, each 2 liang], Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) [remove coarse bark], Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Alba*), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*) [slice and dry-roast, each 1 liang], Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber, *Ophiopogonis Tuber*) [remove heart, dry-roast].
The above eight ingredients [note: text lists fewer than eight distinct items here but says 'eight'] are coarsely ground and sifted. Each dose consists of 5 qian bi, decocted in 1.5 zhan of water with five slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*) and two broken Da Zao (Jujube Fruit, *Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus*). Decoct until reduced to 8/10 volume. Strain and take warm, on an empty stomach and before meals, three times daily.
For treating Lung Flaccidity Syndrome with frequent urination, use Shu Di Huang Tang (Prepared Rehmannia Decoction): Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root, *Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata*) [dry-roast], Xiong Qiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome, *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma*) [each 5 liang], Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) [remove coarse bark], Ren Shen (Ginseng Root, *Panacis Ginseng Radix*), Sang Gen Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark, *Mori Radicis Cortex*) [each 3 liang for Ginseng, 2 liang for Mulberry Root Bark].
The above five ingredients are crushed like hemp or bean seeds. Each dose consists of 5 qian bi, decocted in 1.5 zhan of water until reduced to 8/10 volume. Strain and take warm.
For treating Lung Flaccidity Syndrome with frequent urination and gradually perceived Qi weakness, use Long Gu Tang (Dragon Bone Decoction): Long Gu (Fossilized Bones, *Dinosauria Ossis Femoris*) [text implies processed], Huang Qi (Astragalus Root, *Astragali Radix*) [crush], Rou Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem, *Cistanches Herba*) [soak in wine, slice, dry-roast, each 1 liang], Bai Wei (Cynanchum Root, *Cynanchi Atrati Radix*), Mu Li (Oyster Shell, *Concha Ostreae*) [calcined], Fu Zi (Aconite Root, *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata*) [process until cracked, remove skin and navel, each 3 fen], Gan Cao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*).
The above seven ingredients are crushed like hemp or bean seeds. Each dose consists of 3 qian bi, decocted in one zhan of water with three slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*) and two broken Da Zao (Jujube Fruit, *Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus*). Decoct until reduced to 7/10 volume. Strain and take warm, on an empty stomach and before meals, three times daily.
