[Discussion] The so-called "Zhu disease" (Note Disease) refers to illness caused by the stagnation and infusion of pathogenic factors. These conditions often arise from mental exhaustion and emptiness of the meridians, exposure to wind, cold, summer-heat, and dampness, improper diet, overexertion, or infection with qi of death or essence of ghosts. Initially, they resemble sudden collapse due to evil invasion, external obstruction, sudden death, or corpse rigidity. Although symptoms may temporarily subside, pathogenic factors inevitably remain latent in the meridians, spreading to the fu organs, penetrating deep into the bone marrow, and persisting for a long time, ultimately forming Zhu diseases. Their manifestations are diverse, fluctuating between onset and remission, causing dizziness and confusion, affecting the entire body. If caused by wind, cold, summer-heat, or dampness, they are classified as Wind Zhu, Cold Zhu, Cool Zhu, Cold Zhu, Warm Zhu, and Damp Zhu. If caused by dietary indiscretion or overexertion, they are classified as Food Zhu, Drink Zhu, Wine Zhu, and Water Zhu. If caused by infection with the qi of death, they are classified as Mourning Zhu, Crying Zhu, and Transfer Zhu. If caused by the essence of ghosts, they are classified as Ghost Zhu, Evil Zhu, Corpse Zhu, and Calamity Zhu. Those resulting from violating earth taboos are called Earth Zhu; those occurring postpartum are called Postpartum Zhu; those arising from deficiency consumption are called Deficiency Zhu; and those from external pathogenic invasion are called External Evil Zhu. All these types of Zhu diseases are named according to their etiology.
Furthermore, if pathogenic factors infuse into the Lung, it is called Qi Zhu; if into the Ying (Nutrient) level, it is called Blood Zhu; if prolonged without resolution, damaging the bone marrow, it is called Bone Zhu. These are named according to the location of the pathology. Additionally, Stone Zhu describes a condition firm and hard like stone; Walking Zhu describes pain that wanders unpredictably. These are named according to the morphological changes of the disease. Although there are many categories with specific syndromes, collectively they all belong to Zhu diseases. To treat Zhu diseases, one must distinguish true from false. A piece of white paper can be placed over the painful area, hair burned until charred and dripped onto the paper. If the hair adheres to the paper, it indicates traction by Zhu qi; if not, it is not a Zhu disease. After determining the cause, treatment should follow the syndrome. If no specific formula exists for a particular type, general methods for treating Zhu can be used. Regarding the pulse of Zhu diseases, a floating and large pulse is treatable, while a fine and rapid pulse is difficult to treat.
[Another Discussion] Zhu disease refers to illness caused by the stagnation of pathogenic factors. It arises from empty meridians, injury by wind-cold-summer-heat-dampness, dietary indiscretion, overexertion, qi deficiency after severe illness leading to pathogenic flow, infection with death qi, or encounter with ghostly evils. Symptoms vary, and treatment should address the root cause.
