Moxibustion for All Types of Malaria. Effective Method.
Moxibustion at Dazhui (GV14, Great Vertebra). Located on the back. In the depression above the first thoracic vertebra. When an attack occurs, apply 100 moxa cones (Zhuang).
Another method.
Moxibustion at Baihui (GV20, Hundred Convergences) with 7 moxa cones. If the disease recurs after recovery, apply another 7 moxa cones. For extremely difficult cases, do not exceed three sessions. After moxibustion, the patient recovers. Have the patient stand with feet flat on the ground. Wrap a cotton thread once around the foot. Measure from Dazhui downward to the end of the thread. Apply 21 moxa cones (3 x 7) at that point. The moxa cone should be the size of a small bean.
Another method.
Moxibustion at Fengchi (GB20, Wind Pool), two acupoints. Located below the prominent bone of the neck tendons, in the hollow. Apply 3 moxa cones.
Another method.
Moxibustion at Sanjian (LI3, Third Interstice). Located one cun inward from the lower border of the second phalangeal joint of the index finger, in the depression. This acupoint is used for malaria lasting up to three years, characterized by alternating chills and fever. Apply 3 moxa cones prophylactically before the onset of symptoms.
Another method.
Moxibustion at Shenshu (BL23, Kidney Transporter), two acupoints. Located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the fourteenth thoracic vertebra. Apply 200 moxa cones.
Moxibustion for All Types of Malaria, Regardless of Duration.
The patient lies supine. Measure the distance between the nipples with a thread, fold it in half. From the nipple, measure downward to the end of the thread. The number of moxa cones corresponds to the patient's age (Sui Nian Zhuang). Moxa is applied to the left side for males and the right side for females.
Moxibustion for Various Malarial Syndromes Originating from the Five Zang Organs.
Moxibustion at Chize (LU5, Cubit Crease). Located in the cubital crease where the artery pulses. Apply 7 moxa cones.
Moxibustion for Malaria.
Moxibustion at Shangxing (GV23, Upper Star). Apply 7 moxa cones. The acupoint is located in the center of the nose, one cun directly above into the hairline, in the depression.
Moxibustion for Malaria Occurring in the Late Afternoon.
Primary treatment involves moxibustion at Linqi (GB15, Orbital Bone Hole - *Note: Context suggests Yangbao or similar temporal point, but text says Linqi/Walking Gap which usually refers to GB15 or BL62 depending on context; here described as outer canthus/temple area*). Located five fen above the outer canthus into the hairline, in the depression. Apply 7 moxa cones.
Moxibustion for Malaria with Profuse Sweating, Lower Back Pain Preventing Flexion and Extension, Eyes Feeling Like They Are Falling Out, and Neck Sensation Like Being Pulled.
Primary treatment involves moxibustion at Kunlun (BL60, Kunlun Mountain). Located in the depression above the calcaneus behind the lateral malleolus. Apply 3 moxa cones.
Moxibustion for Malaria Manifesting as Excess Syndrome with Lower Back and Abdominal Pain, or Deficiency Syndrome with Epistaxis.
Primary treatment involves moxibustion at Feiyang (BL58, Flying Yang). Located seven cun above the lateral malleolus. Apply 7 moxa cones.
Discussion: The Three Xiao (Consumption) syndromes originate fundamentally from Kidney deficiency. They may also be caused by the consumption of rich and fatty foods. The Kidney belongs to the Shaoyin meridian, and the Bladder belongs to the Taiyang meridian. The Bladder is the mansion of body fluids. Due to Cold-Kidney and Yin deficiency, in youth, individuals consume hot medicines containing mineral drugs (Rushi), indulge in alcohol, meat, and pungent foods, eat hot noodles and fried items, and engage in excessive sexual activity without proper self-care. This leads to the depletion of body fluids and the decline of Yuan Qi (Original Qi). Heat toxins accumulate in the Heart and Lungs, while fishy and greasy foods damage the Stomach and Intestines. The Spleen suffers from heat, leading to the drying up of the Five Zang organs. The limbs become emaciated, spirit becomes erratic, the mouth tastes bitter, the tongue is dry, and thirst increases daily. First, drinking large amounts of water but producing little urine is called Xiaoke (Upper Consumption). Second, eating large amounts of food but drinking little water, with scanty dark yellow urine, is called Xiaozhong (Middle Consumption). Third, drinking water that is immediately excreted, with sweet-tasting turbid white urine, and emaciation of the waist and legs, is called Xiaoshen (Lower Consumption). These conditions result from the exhaustion of essence and fluids of the Five Zang organs, stagnation of blood in the meridians, failure of Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) Qi to circulate, and the retention of heat, thereby forming these diseases.
