Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix) Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) Chi Fuling (Red Poria, peeled) Hai Ge (Concha Meretricis) Hujiao (Piperis Longi Fructus) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved) Tingli (Descurainiae Semen seu Lepidii Semen) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) Heheli (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus, pitted) Chendi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen) Binglang (Arecae Semen) Yuliren (Prunus japonica seed) Sangpi (Mori Cortex) Zisu (Perillae Folium) (above herbs, each one liang) Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, two liang) Shexiang (Moschus, a small amount, dissolved in hot water, do not grind)
Crush the herbs finely and divide into two doses. Soak in three sheng of water overnight. At dawn on the next day, decoct over low fire until reduced by one sheng. Squeeze out the juice to obtain approximately three zhan. In the morning on an empty stomach, drink one zhan first. After walking about five li, take another zhan. After walking another five li, take the third zhan. If the medicine has cooled, warm it in a double boiler; do not take it cold. If the patient has had a long illness resulting in deficiency in the abdomen, mild diarrhea of two or three movements will occur after the third zhan. If the abdomen is excess type, profuse diarrhea will occur by noon. Use a basin to observe; there will surely be foul yellow water or foul green-black matter discharged, amounting to three to five sheng. This is due to the restoration of qi transformation leading to purgation. If the patient is not extremely weak, do not stop the diarrhea forcibly; it will resolve spontaneously. If fatigue is felt, consume Jiangshui Zhou (fermented grain porridge) to tonify. Thereafter, take another dose every three to five days, following this method. Master Tuduo stated: "After the first dose, the disease is halved; after the second dose, the root cause is eliminated." Repeated trials have shown that for severe cases, taking one dose in the morning results in recovery by evening. For deep-rooted conditions, swelling subsides and the patient can rise on the day of medication, but if a lump is felt in the lower abdomen, subsequent doses are required. Do not discard the dregs; store them in a cloth bag and hang in the wind. If slight symptoms recur later, decoct again; it can treat two more people. Master Tuduo said: "If a household hangs these dregs on the doorpost, the family will never suffer from epidemic qi." This drink treats not only water qi but all qi diseases. For qi diseases, regardless of duration, remove Dahuang and Heheli from the twenty ingredients, add Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), decoct with Tongzi Xiaonian (urine of an uncircumcised boy), and take on an empty stomach daily to eliminate the root cause. A person suffering from severe lung qi stagnation, upon encountering someone with water qi disease, who accidentally took one zhan of this medicine, was permanently cured. Someone who suffered from Jiaoqi (Beriberi/Lower Limb Edema) throughout life, with symptoms rushing to the heart, was also cured of the root cause by this drink. From this, we deduce that it treats all qi diseases, not just water qi. Pregnant women can take it without harm. Children and the elderly can adjust the dosage as appropriate; all will recover.
