[Qian Yi] For vomiting and diarrhea caused by cold damage (Shanghan), with body temperature fluctuating between warm and cool, excessive sleepiness, coarse breathing, yellowish-white stool, vomiting of undigested milk and food, occasional coughing, and concurrent symptoms involving the five zang organs, one should decoct and add "Zang Jun Chen" herbs. Administer Daqing Gao first, followed by Yihuang San. If purgatives have been used previously, or if there are no indications for purgation, absolutely avoid using purgatives. This condition arises from cold invading the spleen and lungs, impairing the spleen's ability to transform and transport. (Jiegu stated: Warm body, vomiting, diarrhea, and cough indicate wind-wood invading the spleen-earth. Since the mother organ is deficient, the child organ is also weak. The treatment method involves decocting Binglang Doukou Tang to administer Daqing Gao, followed by Yihuang San.)
For vomiting and diarrhea caused by wind-cold injury (Shangfeng), with fever, excessive sleepiness, ability to suckle, incessant drinking, vomiting of phlegm, and yellow watery stool, this is due to stomach deficiency heat causing thirst, vomiting, and diarrhea. One should generate fluids in the stomach to relieve thirst. After the thirst is relieved, use dispersing agents. Baizhu San is often taken to relieve thirst, while Daqing Gao is the primary formula for dispersing pathogenic factors. (Jiegu stated: For vomiting and diarrhea with fever, thirst, and scanty urine, Wuling San is indicated. For fever with vomiting, Baizhu San should be taken, followed by Binglang Muxiang Tang administered with Daqing Gao.)
For vomiting and diarrhea caused by wind-cold injury, with a cool body, foaming at the mouth, green or white stool, chest stuffiness, restlessness, absence of thirst, hiccups accompanied by long sighs, and eyes half-open during sleep, this results from prolonged wind-cold invasion leading to weakness and deficiency, thereby causing vomiting and diarrhea. The treatment should first tonify the spleen, then disperse the exterior. Yihuang San is used to tonify the spleen, and Daqing Gao is used to disperse the exterior. These two conditions commonly occur in spring and winter. (Jiegu stated: A cool body with vomiting, diarrhea, and absence of thirst indicates cold. Decoct Fuzi Guizhi Tang to administer Daqing Gao.)
Daqing Gao
Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, ground into powder, 1 fen)

Grind all ingredients together finely again. Mix with raw honey to form a paste. Each dose should be the size of half to one soap pod. Infants around one month old should receive a dose the size of a rice grain. Mix with Niuhuang Gao and dissolve in warm Mentha water before administration. Children over five years old should take it mixed with Ganlu San.
When infants are injured by wind-cold, resulting in vomiting and diarrhea, physicians may attribute it to spleen deficiency and treat with warming and tonifying methods. If ineffective, they may switch to cooling drugs, which fail to disperse the pathogen. This is termed "original wind-cold." Physicians' indiscriminate attacking treatments lead to accumulated spleen qi deficiency. Internally unable to dissipate, externally unable to resolve, after more than ten days, symptoms include excessive sleepiness, eyes half-open, and warm body. Wind resides in the spleen and stomach, causing loose stools. One must eliminate wind from the spleen; once wind recedes, dysentery stops. Xuanfeng San is indicated. Subsequently, Shijunzi Wan is used to tonify the stomach. In cases where various vomiting and dysentery persist without recovery, spleen deficiency generates wind, leading to slow convulsions (Man Jing).
[Hai Zang] Excessive vomiting and diarrhea lead to spleen and stomach deficiency and exhaustion, with a tendency to develop wind syndromes. Use Sijunzi Tang plus Baifuzi (at half dosage), decocted with fresh ginger.
Shouwei San Treats disharmony of yin and yang, incessant vomiting and diarrhea, prevents wind syndromes, regularly regulates the spleen and stomach, and promotes appetite.
