Treat infants aged three to four days after birth, or within twenty-seven days after birth, who exhibit trismus (lockjaw), inability to suckle milk, and excessive crying. This is caused by external wind pathogen invading the umbilicus and flowing along the meridians to the Heart and Spleen channels, resulting in a stiff tongue, spasmodic lips, and difficulty sucking, thus contracting this disease. The prescribed herbal medicines rarely achieve perfect results. Generally, it is advisable to dispel wind without overdoing it. Moxibustion should be applied to Chengjiang (CV24), followed by Jiache (ST6).
Acupoints: Chengjiang (CV24), Jiache (ST6). Apply seven moxa cones to each, with cone sizes resembling sparrow droppings.
Treat newborns suffering from umbilical wind manifesting as trismus, flaccid paralysis with cold limbs, profuse diarrhea, and "cuo kou" (mouth puckering), where all herbal medications have failed. Moxibustion should be applied to Ran Gu (KI3), located in the depression anterior and inferior to the medial malleolus. Apply three moxa cones. Acupuncture depth is three fen; bleeding should be avoided. Immediate effect is expected.
Treat umbilical wind causing upward deviation of the eyes; prick Si Zhu Kong (TE23).
For infantile umbilical wind characterized by inability to open the mouth and susceptibility to fright, the acupoint is Ran Gu (KI3).
Treat infantile umbilical swelling; apply moxibustion to the joint space between the lumbar vertebrae directly opposite the umbilicus, three moxa cones.
Treat infants suffering from vomiting due to fright from horses ("Ma Ke Wu"); apply moxibustion to Xin Bao Luo (Pericardium channel), Jianshi (PC5), Dadu (SP2), Yinbai (SP1), and Sanyinjiao (SP6), three moxa cones for each.
Treat infants affected by malignant qi from external fright; apply moxibustion to points half an cun above, below, left, and right of the umbilicus, and five points one cun nine fen below Ji Wei (CV15), totaling thirty moxa cones. The quantity of moxa is not the primary concern.
This method also treats various diseases in infants.
Treat infants who cry upon seeing lamplight at night, continuing until cockcrow (from *Quan Ying Fang*). Apply one moxa cone to Zhong Chong (PC9), located one fen posterior to the nail bed of the middle finger.
Treat acute and chronic convulsive disorders with critical complexion indicating incurability (from *Wei Shi Fang*). First, apply three moxa cones to both nipples, specifically Ru Zhong (CV17); for males, the left nipple; for females, the right nipple.
Next, apply three moxa cones to Xian Hui (DU20) at the hairline between the eyebrows. Additionally, bind the hands together using a material and apply fused moxa at the corners of the nails on the great toes. For males, target the area halfway between the nail and flesh on the left side; apply three moxa cones. Treat feet before hands. This can also treat various Yang and Yin epilepsy syndromes. Use moxa cones the size of wheat grains.
Treat infantile chronic convulsions presenting with critical signs of Spleen deficiency where herbal efficacy is insufficient. Examine the depression in the center of the dorsum of both feet for the prominent Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel); apply moxibustion to Bai Hui (DU20). This point is located at the midpoint between the anterior and posterior hairlines, and horizontally midway between the apexes of both ears, precisely at the center of the vertex where the hair whorl is端正 (regular). If there are double whorls or irregular whorls, this method is not applicable. Shape moxa cones approximately the size of wheat grains; apply only three to five cones. After moxibustion, administer herbs to awaken the Spleen.
Treat infants within one month of age suffering from fetal wind, convulsions, chronic wind, tidal spasms, phlegm obstruction, staring eyes, trismus, and inability to feed, addressing all types of convulsive disorders (from *Wei Sheng Bao Jian*). Apply twelve to fourteen (seven times two) moxa cones to Bai Hui (DU20) at the central top of the head; three cones to Ren Zhong (GV26) below the nose; three cones to each of the four corners of the fontanelle; one cone to Chi Ze (LU5) bilaterally; and three cones to Tian Ting (EX-HN15) above the nose.
Treat infantile slow convulsive disorder.
Wang Shi stated: Acute and chronic convulsions are not true wind pathogens. Ancients referred to them as Yang and Yin Epilepsy, analogous to Yang and Yin syndromes in Cold Damage. Yang Epilepsy corresponds to Yang syndromes and should be treated with cooling herbs; Yin Epilepsy corresponds to Yin syndromes and should be treated with warming herbs. Incompetent physicians fail to understand this principle and use wind-dispelling herbs for treatment. Since wind-dispelling herbs are often cooling, patients with chronic convulsions invariably suffer harm from this approach. Be vigilant. Regarding moxibustion for convulsions, it is most safe and appropriate for chronic convulsions and chronic Spleen wind.
Treat infantile acute convulsions and epileptic seizures; apply three moxa cones to Qian Ding (DU21). If ineffective, must apply moxibustion to the inner ends of the eyebrows and to Ren Zhong (GV26) below the nose.
Treat infants experiencing convulsive twitching during sleep with eyes unable to close; apply one moxa cone to the point three fen superior to the transverse cubital crease when the elbow is flexed, on both sides.
Treat infantile fright; select the pulse position (Note: Text says "Xue Mai", likely referring to a specific pulse diagnosis point or typo for an acupoint, retained as per source).
Treat infantile nocturnal convulsions and epilepsy (from *Quan Ying Fang*); apply one moxa cone to the tips of the first and second toes, at a distance from the nail edge resembling the width of a leek leaf.
Treat insomnia due to palpitations and fright; apply moxibustion to Yin Jiao (CV7), Qi Hai (CV6), and Da Ju (ST25).
Treat nocturnal visual hallucinations of stars due to fright; apply moxibustion to Yin Qiao (KD6).
Treat fearfulness and inadequacy of Shen Qi (Spiritual Energy); apply moxibustion to Da Zhong (KI4).
Treat internal palpitations and fear of being pursued; apply moxibustion to Ran Gu (KI3).
Treat convulsions accompanied by fright; apply moxibustion to Jie Xi (ST41).
Treat frequent sighing, vexation, fullness, shortness of breath, and sorrowful fright; apply moxibustion to Shao Chong (HT9).
Treat epigastric palpitations and predisposition to fright; apply moxibustion to Qu Ze (LU5).
Treat heart pain with frequent fright and unhappiness; apply moxibustion to Xing Jian (LR2).
Treat dizziness due to wind and convulsive curling; apply moxibustion to Yang Gu (SI5).
Treat hypersomnia and tendency toward fright; apply moxibustion to Li Dui (ST45).
Treat delirious speech due to surprise, with red face; apply moxibustion to Ye Men (EX-HN18).
Treat frequent belching, fear, palpitations, and shortness of breath; apply moxibustion to Shen Men (HT7).
Treat predisposition to fright and aphonia; apply moxibustion to Jianshi (PC5).
Treat predisposition to fright; apply moxibustion to San Jian (LI3) and He Gu (LI4).
Treat [specific type of] fright; apply moxibustion to Yang Xi (LI5) and Tian Jing (TE10).
Treat epigastric palpitations; apply moxibustion to Tong Li (HT5).
Treat internal palpitations and fear; apply moxibustion to Da Ling (PC7).
Treat Qi-related chest pain and fright; apply moxibustion to the Hand Shaoyang channel point [Text missing character, likely Waiguan TE5 or similar].
Treat tearing and fright; apply moxibustion to Hou Xi (SI3).
Treat vexation, fullness, and fright; apply moxibustion to Wan Gu (SI4).
For infantile susceptibility to fright, the acupoint is Ran Gu (KI3).
For infantile fright leading to loss of essence, the acupoint is Chang Qiang (GV1).
For infantile crying and excessive weeping due to fright, the acupoint is Bai Hui (DU20).
Treat all cases of chronic convulsions with extremity cold and critical conditions; apply seven moxa cones to Bai Hui (DU20), increasing up to forty-nine (seven times seven) cones depending on severity. Also, apply seven moxa cones to Jin Men (GB53) in the depression at the junction of red and white skin below the lateral malleolus of both feet, increasing up to forty-nine cones.
